Good evening, everyone.

Evening.

Hi, @TomWij. How are you?

Fine, this school semester seems a bit busier than previous one, but I'll survive.
I really should get a GTD/Pomodoro/... system going, I would greatly benefit from that...
My next deadline:

Wil
Almost there again! if no recalc!!! -
already /reputation says I should be 40 lower.... in just a few days :S... Is there any way I can just find moved/deleted answers?

12:30 AM

Hehe.

I get 50,005 too.

Wil
yay! again...

I think one of his answers may have been upvoted in the meantime.

Wil
:) but really, I should be 40 lower :(

You could trigger a recalc yourself if you like. ;-)
Ok, I have to turn in. Good night.

@Wil: I'm looking for a solution posted a long time ago by someone, I think @harrymc, that caches downloads and windows update. It was kind of a firewall software.
Nevermind, it was by Diago.
Got to love Data Explorer:

Hello all
how are you? I'm back again, just had the time to check my laptop
@Wil: how are you? I have another question. It is still about my laptop. Last time when we check my laptop we thought that I am the administrator. But then, here is what I found out. If i go to my c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\ I see this one: Administrator, All User, myName
and if I check the administrator desktop it doesn't have anything on it. but if I checked my desktop I have files here. So it seems that my laptop has administrator account.
I would like to access the administrator account. I cant figure out how to do that.
Any advise please?

@tintincute the admin account is a special account for managing your computer, however you can also elevate your own account to administrator, which means you can do exactly the same as the admin account
what Windows version do you have?

Q: How to verify my current user has admin rights or not?

yves BaumesI'am running win XP sp2. How to check that whether I have admin rights or not? I can't check the system properties. I don't have that much items in the configuration panel. It seems I don't have admin rights, but how to check that formally ? Is there any command line tools for that?

this question let's you check whether you're admin or not

2:57 PM
jeez
got a shock when my user account details were reset after applying Windows update
got it back after a reboot :|

seems you are part of Admin group

@Sathya: ok I would like to login as administrator. What would be the user name for this? admin?

@tintincute administrator should be a hidden account, but you already are an administrator - why would you want to login as admin?

@Sathya: it seems the person I know had physical access on my laptop, where he was able to get copies of my files.

3:11 PM
okay

I was very surprised that he got all the emails I had and the only way I can think of is that he had physical access that's why.
or perhaps he installed some keylogger that is why I am trying to find out as well how can I check if I have keylogger installed.
it maybe it's running in the background
Is there any way I can login as administrato
I checked my event viewer > security it seems that the things I'm doing in my laptop doesn't show any logs.
And this is what I found:
The audit log was cleared
Primary User Name: SYSTEM
Primary Domain: NT AUTHORITY
Primary Logon ID: (0x0,0x3E7)
Client User Name: Administrator
Client Domain: TINTIN
Client Logon ID: (0x0,0xAD1C8)

logout and login as Administrator

what would be the user name?

user name would be Administrator

@Sathya: the problem is I don't know the password?

3:15 PM
@tintincute try a blank password ? else admin

and if I login it goes automatically to my username tintincute

Start menu -> Shut down -> Logout ?

after I typed my master password then I got the tintincute account
ok.
I will try this and will get back again. Thanks for the help @Sathya

try resetting password if that doesn't help
@tintincute

A: What can I do if I forgot my Windows password?

Sathya If you have an Ubuntu live CD you can reset it using chntpw application You can use Bart's PE + Password Renew to reset the password You can use Offline NT Password Editor to reset the password. Detailed instructions on using any of the 3 are available over here.

welcome @tintincute hi @IvoFlipse

hi @Sathya

3:17 PM
@Sathya: by the way if I click on Start, there is no Shutdown selection

what options do you have @tintincute I don't have XP here

i have Turn off computer then Standby - Turn off - Restart
do you mean log off

yes

ok I will try log off then I will be disconnected here. Will get back to you thanks

3:20 PM
@Sathya: Just an info I tried this one as well: net localgroup and this is what I got:

-----------------------------------
*Administrators
*Backup Operators
*Debugger Users
*Guests
*HelpServicesGroup
*Network Configuration Operators
*Power Users
*Remote Desktop Users

The command completed successfully.
oops sorry I pasted a different link here it is.

@Sathya: I am back.
When I clicked on log off there is no other way to login as administrator.

welcome back @tintincute any success

I only have 1 user which is tintincute
This is really very strange-
What would I do now.

3:27 PM
@IvoFlipse - got the built in playback working. Does, Play, Pause and Resume. Working on a popup to show the current track then onto controls for Stop, Next and Previous track.

use the ^^ link to enable crl+alt+del

nice @ChrisF :)

once that's done logoff, ctrl+alt+del & enter administrator
@ChrisF any links to check it ? :)

@Sathya: ok will I lose my files? Do I need to back up my files first?

@Sathya Not yet ;) I might upload a version without Stop/Restart, Next and Previous just to make sure you're happy ;)

3:29 PM
what do you mean ^^?

Nopes @tintincute it's just an alternate login style
@tintincute ^^ == above post

aha ok

@ChrisF :) would be nice to check it

thanks will try this one.

@Sathya The 2nd sentence was really directed at @IvoFlipse. I will post a link when I do upload it

3:31 PM
@ChrisF okay :)

I'll try it out when you've uploaded it

Wil
Just woke up! (3:35PM.... need to get my body clock sorted!)... @Tintincute - right, sorry if I missed something - a lot to catch up on... Your computer by default has 4 accounts - Administrator (full access to everything) Guest (very limited account), Support, and something else.... Most are disabled by default. Any account youalso create can be in the same security principas - if you are a member of administrator, you are not actually an account called administrator, but you do have the
same rights as that user.
Next, resetting the password - any administrator can reset the passwords for any user. Just go to user management, right click on the user and choose reset password

@Wil: ok. but do I need to do the one that Sathay sent

Wil
No... The link Sathya sent has a load of good tools, including the one I showed you a few days ago - but they are designed for resetting a password if you have forgotten or are not administrator.... as you are, you don't need to "hack" in to your own system.

@Wil: ok I will try to do the one you wrote ok?
Just a few moments
@Wil: by the way where can I find the management

Wil
3:43 PM
ok - as I said, go to computer management again and look under users, you should be able to right click administrator and reset - however, I don't understand why you actually need to go in to this account - I would just reset the password and leave it there...
@tintincute Right click my computer and choose manage

@Wil: is that local users & groups
is that local users & groups where I can find the users ?

hey @Wil you ever switch from ide to ahci in win 7? I keep getting a BSOD :(

Wil
@KronoS That is usual, they require different drivers... you need to select one and install windows so it chooses the correct one - or switch back to original, then install drivers and switch... not easy

@KronoS that's expected behaviour

Wil
@tintincute yes

3:48 PM
Hmmm.... didn't really want to do a fresh install today :( .... Where do I get the drivers? just a search?

Wil
they are included with Windows - just need to do a manual install - can't remember exactly how :S sorry
really sorry, I need to get on with a stack of work and can't think straight about this! :S

@Wil: when I right clicked on the user "Administrator" I don't see any reset password

@Wil no prob man.. I'll just bounce ideas (pester) @Sathya about this

Wil
@tintincute No insult, but... I think this is going to take so much longer to help via this than just doing it myself..... Can you please install this - teamviewer.com/download/TeamViewerQS_en.exe and give me the id/password - and I will help you quick...

Lol... Poor @Wil having to resort to doing PC support on his busy Sat

3:52 PM
ok just a moment Wil Thanks I will install. Thanks so much

really hates startup repair

Wil
@KronoS ... startup repair may install the driver :S not to sure...

@Wil it didn't :( But it's ok...

@Wil: how can we talk?

Wil
Everyone who is on SU just wants to help people.... I am sure no one will screw up your system, just give it here and I will connect quick... it only allows the first person to type in...

3:56 PM
ok
pwd ; 9241
oops sorry it's not its 4921
98 575 736

startup repair won't help @KronoS you'll have to resort to messy registry hacks or fresh install

@Sathya going to attempt to install this first... if not, then I'll do a fresh install

Good morning, evveryone

morning @MarkSzymanski

Hi @Sathya. How are you?

4:00 PM
mornin @MarkSzymanski

Hi @KronoS. How are you?

@KronoS not sure if it'll help, but worth trying anyway

Really Good... I'm testing the SSD's today!

Cool ^^

@Sathya that's what I was thinking

4:03 PM
I'm good @MarkSzymanski :)

oh here it is

its on SU too @KronoS

@Wil: you were disconnected
can you connect again please?

Wil
can you re launch team viewer and give me the codes again? I need the firewall off so I can download the support tools
if it doesn't work, I will download them from the internet - it just takes slightly longer.

i already relaunch the teamviewer
it is the same code

Q: Enabling AHCI on SATA drive in Windows 7

Jader DiasCan I enable AHCI after installing Windows 7 in a SATA drive that was on IDE mode?

@Wil: you were dc again? if you want to connect please use the same code again

@tintincute I would be a bit careful as to not sounding upset as he's giving you remote pc support for free
SERIOUSLY I click "Cancel" on startup repair and it still repairs!!!!!!
MS if you're going to take over my PC don't make it appear like I have control... just take it over
Also how in the world does the "down arrow equate to "Enter"!!!

anyone from you coming for Team Fortress 2?

Wil
@tintincute - there is nothing that stands out to me and says "I am a keylogger" it is still possible to have one at a deeper level, but I find it unlikely...

4:18 PM
@IvoFlipse I can for only a few mins... then I have to get back to working on the SSD's

Wil
Personally, I would just make sure your password recovery questions are hard enough for no one to break in through... e.g. where was I born / mothers maiden name... anyone knowing you will have that.
I really need to get on with work now, sorry...

@Wil: ok. Thanks.

Wil
@IvoFlipse work.... and don't have it :(

@Wil: I have written something in notepad. could you please check shortly? you are still connected on my laptop

Wil
let me just reconnect...

4:33 PM
@Wil: ok you saw the logs in the security. First I didn't clear the logs the one from the system. I didn't do that. And the date was Feb 11, 2011.
So someone was trying to access my laptop then?

Wil
Ok disconnected...
ehh, I don't know - I didn't read the dates, it just shows someone cleared the log - I wouldn't worry just yet, I am always clearing my own logs

@Wil: That is really very strange because I didn't clear the logs.
This was the other one: The audit log was cleared
Primary User Name: SYSTEM
Primary Domain: NT AUTHORITY
Primary Logon ID: (0x0,0x3E7)
Client User Name: Administrator
Client Domain: TINTIN
Client Logon ID: (0x0,0xAD1C8)
and the new one we had is this:

Wil
I am not saying there isn't a keylogger, I just find it very unlikely.... if he still manages to get in your emails or something (if you changed the password), I would just reinstall everything to be on the safe side - your machine has so much "crap" on it, that you will most likely never use... If I had time, I would give it a clear out, but I just have so much work on

@Wil: I am planning to re-install everything. Will you help me?

Wil
ehhh :S I really don't have the time :( sorry - I wouldn't reinstall everything unless you are sure there are other problems... I personally do not think there is a keylogger (but it is still possible) If I was you, I would go to add/remove programs and just uninstall everything you don't want.

4:38 PM
Let me know when you are free again.

Wil
I just have days of work - I really didn't have time to help you now!!! If you have any specific questions, please just ask here and I am sure you will get help.

ok. Will post questions here then

Wil
reinstalling really should be the last thing you do, only if you are sure there is a keylogger... or if you are just really stressing over it. but as I said, your system looks clean-ish to me, just has a load of junk you will never use, but you can always uninstall it

yep will try that. But I guess I would reinstall then everything. Will find time for this.
By the way anyone knows what is Robo copy?

Wil
it is for filling out forms on websites

4:45 PM
will it also copy the files you have from your PC?

Wil
I am sorry, I don't have time to spend hours helping you reinstall/back up as I have so many projects on at the moment... @IvoFlipse can tell you that! but, if anyone (@Kronos @Tomwij @Sathya @IvoFlipse) know of a mass uninstaller, I don't mind setting it....
What I mean is, I know of a few uninstallers, but - I never use them myself..., is there any tool that allows me to select multiple products and then run the uninstall silently/sequentially?

@Wil pc decrapfier, revo

Wil
@Sathya Revo is the main one I have heard of, does the free version allow it?

I used the 30-day trial while selling my old laptop

Wil
ok, I will try to check...
I can't see it, but @tintincute - if I can have the teamviewer ID again, I will give it a shot...

4:52 PM
@Wil: you mean now`?

Wil
... If you want... i'm not "in the zone" yet!!! I am trying to get on with work, but I guess I should really come off chat.... I don't mind doing it now, but I should really get on before too long...

ok you can connect again. thanks so much for the help

@Sathya And can't get a bloody low grade tech support job anywhere...

@Wil lol

Wil
not lol :( No one recognises owning your own company... The problem is, I am making (a lot) more than very very low grade telephone support (which I wouldn't mind doing) but they all say you need to have previous experience and work at another tech support place - and higher tech support says you need to have history working at the lower levels...
Getting fed up, but I have so many ideas for programs/sites, it is why I am getting a lot more in to programming and seeing if I can earn more that way...
@tintincute - I have been disconencted... says protocol error on Team Viewer, can you please re launch it

what will I do with my laptop? :-(
It's connected now
what will I do now with my laptop? :.(
what will I do with my laptop?

Q: Any way to see my open questions on all StackExchange sites?

oKtosiTeI've been asking questions on several StackExchange sites, and I'm finding it harder and harder to keep track of them all. Is there any way/place to see a listing of all my open questions on all of the StackExchange (2.0) sites? If not, are there any plans to implement such a feature?

I was exactly trying to remove that tag since nothing indicates that it really is planned.

it was added by @JeffAtwood.

I know, but I'm not sure his answer is the answer to my question. I can already see my greatest hits, but that was not what I wanted.

Wil
I do aswell, there were just so many programs.. I didn't have time to go through and wait, want to click and done... but in the end she needed most of them, so I didn't need to uninstall... and revo (free) didn't allow multiples to be uninstalled in one go

@Sathya Changed the tone of the final line of my answer...

A: Why is my DDR3-1333 ram running at DDR3-1066 speeds?

MokubaiThe memory itself is DDR-1333 memory, as advertised by HP, but it is effectively useless because of the processor that is in the laptop.
