@digitxp: Why? :)

12:51 AM
Good evening, everyone

Evening

Hi, @Linker3000. How are you?

OK - but tired - just wrapping up an evening of doing someone a favour with some Web design.
You?

I'm doing great, thanks
Just had to re-re-register my IRC bot on the network it's going to be running on
Waiting for a reply from the admins.

It never ends - I spent a day doing IT work, grabbed some food and then worked until now on the Web site.

1:03 AM
nods

Dunno where you are, but it's 1:04am here

It's 7:04 PM

USA I guess

Yep
Central USA

How central?

1:05 AM
Central Time Zone, that is XD

City, State?
Just curious

Arkansas.

Thx. Curiosity satisfied!

hehe
You're welcome XD

1:28 AM
Ah well time to go to sleep before I have to wake up again! Bye

1:58 AM
Hi

2:17 AM
hey @JitendraVyas
hey @MarkSzymanski did you work on the "inception" in c proj?

Q: I'm searching for a link

user62367It was on microsoft.com It was about security It was separated to 12 points I can't find it with Google, can someone post it here? Thank you!

kinda (read: completely) useless question...

this is the answer

3:01 AM
Hehe, @KronoS. Not really. All I did was the little Makefile stuff XD
But, yeah, that was me.

it's pretty darn cool @MarkSzymanski

@KronoS: The work I did? Or the project its self? XD

both :)

Hehe ^^
Speaking of github.
I'm going to get to work on sort of rewriting this project of mine.

is pulling up his ubuntu virtual box

3:06 AM
Hehe

folder removal @MarkSzymanski ?
am i right?

@KronoS: not really
What it does is moves a directories contents up a level
then removes the original

Wil
@KronoS That wasn't supposed to leave chat!

Kind of "exploding" it.

@Wil I can delete if you wish :(

Wil
3:08 AM
:P I don't really care!

ok then I'll keep it there... just proof that the almight Kronos has one upped the wilspy once again!

Wil
lol

Ugh. How long does it usually take to generate a GPG key?

Wil
If it is anything like standard certificates, the longer the encryption, the longer it will take... what bits/length did you choose?

Well, it's done now (after about 5 minutes or so). 2048 bits though.
Seems like it has to generate separate public/private keys... so double the time?

Wil
3:17 AM
don't know off the top of my head if it is a good/bad time for that length...

God, I do not understand this.
In an IRC channel I am in all the time. There's someone that has been a complete idiot and just been completely mean to people, all the time. And she (yes, she) hasn't been banned yet.

Wil
life isn't fair and some people are idiots...

Yeah x.x
But, seriously, she has made some people completely miserable and sad with how mean she is.
She actually has been banned, but only a temp one.

Wil
if your client allows it, ban/block/mute her and tell others to do the same!

you can never beat the stone wall of shun

3:24 AM
I would. But there would be a ton of one-sided conversation.
Seeing as how she kisses up to the mods like crazy.
She's really, really close to being banned for life, though.

Wil
... who cares, if it is a good community and she is pissing off everyone, tell everyone to make a script that sends a PM saying "f*** off" or something similar every time she sends a line... eventually she will get the message

One of the mods (the channel co-owner) hates her and wants her banned. But the owner won't let him.

Wil
@MarkSzymanski like that will do any good... new ip/new name... if the mods are crap, start your own channl and ask people to join etc... I see idiots all the time on IRC, I just ignore them

@Wil: I have a feeling that she would report that to the network admins and get lots of people banned from the network.
@Wil: The mods will just ban her again and again.
Ban evasion has happened there.
Always been dealt with.

Wil
maybe it is time for you to move on then! I know I got pi$$ed off with IRC for similar reasons

3:26 AM
I really like the channel, though.
A lot of the people there are great.
It's a channel on FurNet, by the way.
Everyone except for a few mods think she is a b****.

Wil
All I need is more ways to waste my time! It is 3:30 AM and I am coding... but I finally know what it means to be "in the zone"...

Haha. XD

@Wil 8)
@MarkSzymanski what is furnet?

@KronoS: Furry IRC network.

Wil
ok... well, not for me! I like my dogs as little westies... if they were human size, I wouldn't want to clean up after them...

3:31 AM
XD

Wil
(ok... that was funnier in my head...)

Haha XD

Agreed @Wil....Drog crap is big enough

shivers
If only the SU chat had /clear XD

Q: How do I properly setup numerical integration in MATLAB?

KronoSI'm looking to integrate this expression: However I seem to be having problems setting up the function. As outlined in this MATLAB explanation, I've defined a separate function named 'NDfx.m' which looks like this: function [ y ] = NDfx(x) y = (1/sqrt(2*pi))*exp(-.5*x^2); % Error oc...

anybody that's willing to shed some light is appreciated

Wil
@KronoS the answer is 3

lol... actually the problem is a "."
that's all that's needed... it a . at the x^2 ==> x.^2

Wil
I was either going to look smart or stupid, worth a shot for a laugh! :P I wouldn't know where to begin! sorry...

@Wil it's ok... I'm still learning too... it's crazy all that goes into coding languages
and everything that you need to know in order to get them to work

Wil
4:50 AM
oh... well... upvoting the q and a... looks complicated and you deserve it for typing all that!

@Sathya ?
hello then, what's this? a new "improve" button when confirming suggested edits
and the flagging rules have changed such that if your flag weight reaches the new minimum score of zero "flags will be suppressed"...

@DMA57361 oh ?
nice, improve upon edits, nice. I can see me using it

8:43 AM
yeah, didn't actually try it out, but spotted it was a new option
I wonder if it then becomes recorded as editted by both people...

8:57 AM
hellow this morning :)

hi @IvoFlipse

9:22 AM

9:46 AM
Hi! :)

hi @Nyuszika7H

hey

I'm trying to share a folder between XP and Win7, but Win7 doesn't see it.

even if you attempt to access it directly by name?

@DMA57361 It works!! :)

9:54 AM
good good

.Trash-999? Ubuntu creates a trash… on USB flash drives?

shrug don't use it
(Ubuntu that is)

Wil
@Nyuszika7H Is this a long term thing or just to transfer a few files?

@Wil it's just an ISO file, but I don't want to copy it into an USB flash drive, and then copy again to this computer…

Wil
If you want me to help you to set up Windows File Sharing (It isn't that hard), the easiest thing you can do for a one off file transfer is install Filezilla server, have a single user and share the root of the drive

10:01 AM
@Wil yeah, TeamViewer can do that, too :)

Wil
I do it all the time when I just need to do quick copies across a network, regardless of OS etc... like if a friend brings a mac (yuck), much easier to transfer via ftp!
ohh... I'll shut up then... if you want help with Windows sharing, let me know what you have tried so far...

10:28 AM
@Wil well I use dropbox =.=
ah, awesome =.=

@Sathya how good is that for local syncing between machines... the reason I don't use it is because I just want a quick way to transfer without logging on to a third party service etc.
@Sathya eh :S

@Wil if the file is on the LAN, it'll transfer via LAN instead of the 'net

Wil
@Sathya ... but there isn't an overwrite is there? You still have to log in to your drop box account?

@Wil tried sending a jar file containing some (application) icons to a colleague - got bounced

Wil
or can you just use it as a local easy rsync/unison type thing...
@Sathya lol, your office is very protective with their firewalls and scanners!
/OT ... I AM GOING TO A CASINO...

10:38 AM
@Wil true, but in my case they're already on dropbox

Wil
I have only recently started to use Dropbox, TBH, I do really like it... but when dealing with friends/clients, I think FTP would still be easier... however, if just transferring between my own machines, or next time I get a new machine, I certainly see the benefits and will probably use Dropbox.

@Wil re: clients pc: yeah,, true since you can just open a browser and transfer the file

Wil
@Sathya I would be more worried of keyloggers etc.!
would rather not log on to my account...

10:57 AM
@Wil We're thinking of implementing this for passing big files around inernally (user to user) and for stuff too big to email to customers: zend.to

Wil
Looks good, I think I saw something similar a while ago as a VHD...
remember testing it :S but it was expensive, that looks to be very similar (from the quick look I just had...)

11:33 AM
@BloodPhilia Click on All Rooms -> Users -> All tab-> search for kronos -> click on profile -> Invite

@Sathya Ye, I was told before, but it doesn't show

@BloodPhilia check the new instructions

@Sathya What?
@Sathya Wait never mind, found it!
Not exactly where I'd look for it really :P

lost, are ye @BloodPhilia :P

@Sathya Anyway, Kronos is invited now :D

11:48 AM
great

... I hope...

haha

Q: what are your favorite stumpwm hacks?

I'm looking for tips and tricks to extract the best out of stumpwm.

@Linker3000 I'm debating flagging that one, it seems like it would be a question more for their community of forum rather than an actual answerable question
@IvoFlipse That's generally how my days off seem to feel :)

12:56 PM
meeh I just closed it :P
thank @badp for it
I like it anyway @badp :)

Q: Difference between ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M graphics cards

BarbHi, I'm looking to get a new laptop - one of my choices has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics card, the other a NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M. Could anyone explain the differences between these two types of graphics cards please? Thanks in advance. Barb

Shopping suggestion?

1:59 PM
I think we already have a question about comparing GPU specs (or should make one)

2:44 PM
Dagnabit, I just answered a shopping question >.<

2:57 PM
hey all
just a quick hello to moan about the major network outage at work D:

Hey @DMA57361
:D moan away

we've had no external network since 11:30
and all out network drives, etc are on our other site...
and Win XP doesn't like you opening My Computer when the 6 network drives suddenly aren't accessible any more...

Been there, done that, I feel your pain....

I'm currently running without the explorer shell, because for some reason opening the start menu upsets it as well...

We had something similar, ended up with mobile internet dongles to connect to the main site...
It breaks the start menu? Weird.

3:02 PM
yeah...

Maybe the "recent documents" list looking for stuff on the network shares?

not sure why, but most of the guys in my office have had the same problem (start menu wise, that is)
@Mokubai could be that... meh... it's off at the moment anyway :)
@Mokubai unfortunatly both out sites are probably well in excess of 1000 users, so I'm not sure dongles is the way forward :)

Nah, a connection that varies wildly between 3kbps and 3Mbps ought to be fine for mission critical stuff and for people to do their normal daily job...

indeed :D

who removes the message when it says "(removed)"?

3:09 PM
@David either the owner (might be time limited, like edits, not sure) or a moderator (and possibly if it gets multiple flags I think)

ooo

?

Just saying O. That's all

f/e then :)

@DMA57361 I guess you are between South London and the South Coast then? BT Farked up their Moorgate switch and took out most of the South Coast:
We had problems in East Sussex - right after we had completed a major repatching job in the server room so we were wondering what we'd managed to break!

3:33 PM
East Anglia @Linker3000, and we'd heard rumours that there was an ISP level breakage but nothing solid

Hi! :)
Is it possible to install a Hungarian language pack on my English Office 2010?

hi @Nyuszika7H

Doesn't look like you!

:P
skip the handlebars and it's me :P

ta, but I think it's the wrong area thou - I'm east of of London

@DMA57361 Yep, but there's reports of other 'unconnected' outages.

fair enough

@DMA57361 Guess we just picked a bad day to try and do some work.

you're telling me... been thoroughly unproductive :(

4:18 PM
Speaking of work.......must go get another coffee!
Bye

@ALL hello
i don't know where to ask, I have some problems with my PC. Perhaps you can help me.
does anybody know how to check if your pc has keylogger installed?

have you run an antivirus scan?

yes
I have Kaspersky
@DMA57361: but it didn't find something.
I had a strange experience, because someone was able to get copies all the emails I have even I changed the password on my PC
@DMA57361: Do you think this is the only way to find it out? Run antivirus?

is it an online email provider?

I have yahoo and then one from my outlook 2003
I was really dumb-founded when I found it out.

4:24 PM
right, so are the emails on the Yahoo server?

@DMA57361: They are actually two different accounts.

if so, my first thought would be someone has obtained your password to log in directly

The one I have in yahoo is something I used personally.
the one I have in outlook is for business stuff.
This person is very close to me and we had a fight. And after that, I changed my password.
I think I did change it 4 times...
and the password I have is very difficult.
I'm using xp by the way.

there's many ways to break in to accounts

could you name one please?

4:26 PM
unfortunatly I finish work now, so I have to go

I was thinking he installed some keyloggers
ah ok.
Is there anyone left here whom I can ask?

@tintincute guessing a password, stealing a password (keylog), cookie side jack, using your PC directly (for outlook), etc
anyway - cya all later

@DMA57361: Thanks
I was told probably if this person has physical access then it's probable, which it is.
and this person is the administrator.
Is there a way where I can get rid of the administrator?
I don't even know the password:-(

Wil
@tintincute There isn't really a good way as a keylogger can be any piece of software installed and not always a virus. I would recommend you install filemon and open up notepade at the same time - disable registry and network and just try to see if a file is being written as you type.
As for user accounts, if you are also an administrator, you can kick them out (not legal if company or not your own computer)... Go to computer management > user and accounts > users and just change passwords or delete... or use control panel user accounts.

@Wil: thanks the problem is I am not an administrator
this person created a user for me.
this is actually my personal laptop

Wil
4:31 PM
Then you need to break the administrator account - What version of Windows is it?

btw, filemon is this free?
ok, it's win xp

but this is for win 7
it's not available anymore, they have been replaced by process monitor
@Wil: is this true?

Wil
ok, for windows xp, use pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd but this is only legal if it is your computer

yes it is my laptop
personal @Wil

Wil
4:33 PM
@tintincute sorry - use that instead...
well, give it a go! If any problems someone will help you here

which one now the latter?
you mean the pogostick.net
I guess this is really a lot of work, I need to back-up my files first?
I'm not sure if something will happen

Hi all
@tintincute backing up is always a good idea..

@Wil: this site you sent this is for breaking the administrator account right?
I can't seem to find where do I start
@Kyle: Hello, thanks...
but any idea if there is keylogger installed?

Wil
Sorry... telephone... really busy few days...
right, first link is for a tool to detect a keylogger, but may not work because it could be running as administrator

I see so first I have to login as administrator and from there run the first link? @Wil

Wil
4:41 PM
second link is for a tool to reset the admin password, as long as you don't mess around with any other settings, it certainly should not put you in a worse situation than you are already
backing up is always a good idea, but in this situation may not be needed

@Wil: Thanks. But the 2nd link, there are many links here, where shall I go?
It says I need a floppy disk. I don't have a floppy disk anymore.

Wil
click boot disk at the top
go to download, and choose bootable cd image
then extract and burn to a disk
(cd) then use that
or you can use a usb disk

@Wil:

Wil
sorry... another phone call... important... could be a while

@Wil: thanks so much will try this. No problem take your phone call

4:44 PM
@tintincute If all else fails back up your documents and reinstall windows you can then be 100% sure nothing malicious is on your PC.

@Kyle: thanks. I need to find the windows as well.
you know I'm in a very difficult situation because the person who helped me set up my PC, he knows it all. and now I am left with nothing. He even made the back-up as well which I don't have any idea now how? :-(
@Kyle: so now, if I reinstall the windows, do you think it will delete the keylogger?
even if I'm not the administrator?

@tintincute thats the only way to be 100% sure reinstalling Windows will clear everything as long as you reinstall and not repair.
Wil is leading you down the right path though if you don't want to/can't reinstall.

@Kyle: thanks I will try this later once I'm home. I just took down notes.
after following Wil's instruction, I couldn't find what to do next.
So I saved it on my USB stick. Then what would be the next thing to do?

@tintincute boot your pc with the thumb drive plugged in
make sure you go into bios first and set the boot priority, put the usb at the top.

@Kyle: what does that supposed to mean?
aha you mean the blue thing?
