Interesting fact: It is estimated that during the Middle Ages, there was, on average, one church for every 200 people. (Asimov 1997)
Nowadays, 200 people inside a church would be considered a "medium-sized church", according to usachurches.org.
Catholic churches may have members in the thousands on a given Sunday.
Of course, with all those members, there must be several liturgical services.
Sometimes, a church may hold a Saturday evening service or a Bible Study Wednesday night service or a prayer service.
It seems to me that Christians care more about the quantity of members than the quality of members. :P

@TRiG You had a conversation with a quack?
@JonEricson It's too bad that he isn't Catholic. If he were, then he could have done penance to atone for his sins.
I suppose he can do penance the Protestant way.

For any of you who are familiar with the old tire swing specifications cartoon, here's a similar one, on the subject of evolution.
@TRiG Here's what I said about Driscoll a couple weeks ago, the last time Driscoll was forced to apologize for his abusiveness.
@Anonymous I've visited several churches where I got that exact impression. I've attended others where the pastors and staff have spent a lot of time working to train and empower the members to handle the ministries of the church, to turn members into disciples.

@BruceAlderman I think the biblical command to go and evangelize to the world is pushing Christians to proselytize whenever, wherever, however, whatever, to whomever, which may come with a price tag.

@Anonymous Yeah, especially with some denominations (and non-denominations) that emphasize evangelism and the Great Commission as the centerpiece of Christian teaching.

@BruceAlderman Churches may resort to love bombing in order to win converts.
Similar concepts may include love jihad, marital conversion, forced conversion, and missionary dating.

Does anybody know if there are Christian monastics that may be perceived as the Christian equivalent to the Buddhist monastic, Ikkyū?

@Anonymous The command was to make disciples though, not converts. ;)

@BruceAlderman Ha, nice one. Though it'd be even better if the picture somehow showed that evolution is not a linear progression.
(But rather, is wibbly wobbly timey wimey...)

@Anonymous A peculiar definition. The accuracy of this definition depends on how the Scriptures are interpreted.

@Zoe The only difference between a convert and a disciple is that the convert is a neophyte to a particular religion, while a (Christian) disciple may already be a member of the religion since birth OR a convert.
