Q: Are we OK with sex related questions?

LCIIISo there's this question: Is BDSM forbidden according to scripture? And there's this comment: "I think the nature of this question is a problem as well. We shouldn't sexualize the site, and there's a danger of a whole trove of questions in this area being asked." ~Narnian I was going to just re...

Q: Relooking at this question with 20-20 hindsight, I think that the VTC was incorrect - what say you all?

bruised reedThe question under consideration: Isn't Jesus's suffering over magnified by the Catholic Church? body as per: It seems too me that the suffering of Jesus is over magnified. I mean so many people have suffered tremendously for years. Like handicapped/sick people, prisoners, holocaust victim...

Thanks for you edition, @bruisedreed =)
Hi, @Caleb How are you? If you have time, you might want to check this question. :-)

@PaulVargas I wonder why you think there is a Biblical basis for that practice

@PaulVargas no problem and I did flag it for mod attention

@Flimzy Algunos líderes de la iglesia ponen mucho énfasis en el asunto.

Pues, sí... pero eso no tiene que decir que es una cosa bíblica... verdad?
Solo quiero decir que en mi opinión, la pregunta sería mejor si preguntas "What is the basis of church membership?" en vez de "What is the Biblical basis?"

> «¿Comenzamos otra vez a recomendarnos a nosotros mismos? ¿O tenemos necesidad, como algunos, de cartas de recomendación para vosotros, o de recomendación de vosotros?» (2 Corintios 3:1 RVR1960)
> «Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? We don't need letters of recommendation to you or from you as some other people do, do we?» (2 Corinthians 3:1 NET)

not that I expect you guys to be an issue, and it's probably less of an issue since we have moderators in here fairly often that can understand Spanish, but just as a note, generally it is preferred to use English when possible, simply for moderation purposes. If someone flags a post in another language and a moderator can't understand it, they are far more likely to validate the flag out of caution. I get that sometimes it may be easier to communicate a concept that way, something to keep in
mind though
I'd just hate to see there be a mix up because some post gets flagged a mod wasn't sure what it was saying in the middle of a conversation they didn't understand either

@AJHenderson: Entiendo!

@AJHenderson @Flimzy I can assure you that we do not denigrate anyone or to the president in our conversation. So there is no need for moderation if there is a moderator in the conversation.
Hi, @LCIII Where are you from? What do you do?

@PaulVargas Midwest, The States. I'm a software engineer. I was raised in a Christian home and became a believer in my early teens. Got married 4 years ago. 2 kids. I like to be really, really silly or really, really serious. That's what's up.

@LCIII OK. I'm a Java programmer in Mexico.

@PaulVargas yeah, the problem is if someone else flags the message as a joke (or with ill will, which unfortunately happens frequently) then it is difficult for a moderator to tell if the flag has merit or not. It isn't a big deal, just wanted to let you know that we've seen issues result in the past, even if those speaking aren't actually saying anything inappropriate
so more of a word of caution

@AJHenderson Is it possible that an NSA analyst read our comments? ;-)

Is there room for silliness on this site. Or am I insane?
Silliness.SE...

7:45 PM
@LCIII hmm, probably depends what you mean, there is "Aww" for cute photos and gifs and videos and then there are a few rooms that can be pretty random at times

@LCIII Why a Christian wanted to be in a room like that? :-/

@PaulVargas because zebras

Haha, I was mostly being sarcastic. I often get a nosebleed from the suffocating dryness of our site. Christianity + Software Engineer culture = WeAreAllMonks.SE

@AJHenderson I don't undestand. I need my urban dictionary.

@AJHenderson Thank you for the silliness

7:48 PM
@PaulVargas just making reference to a rather odd animal
as a point that God has a sense of humor
there are certainly rooms on here that are not dry, but they also tend to sometimes stray in to more crass humor as well

@AJHenderson Some who say jokes here are not Christians.
We must not forget that there is a log for our idle words.
@AJHenderson I often forget the latter. I really wish every one of my thoughts and actions were only for Him. But I always fail.
But I know that God has mercy on me.

In TRiG like fashion:
> I remember one time my old senior pastor said to me "she's been in church her whole life, why would you expect her to know anything about Scripture?"
Comment on Main article which is a good read.
