@Anonymous This makes no sense to me. If being unable to reconcile important theological questions isn't sufficient reason to reject a religion, then just what exactly would be?

@JimG. Depends how major the conflicts are.
If anyone hasn't voted on this question it looks to me to be a duplicate of this other one. I can't vtc because I vtced when it wasn't clear what it was asking.

@JimG. Well, people do leave a religion because of coercion and persecution.
It may be safer that way.
Some people remove affiliation or claim affiliation with a particular religion, because they may be harmed or benefited from doing so.

@Anonymous Even if you do view a religion simply as a set of cultural traditions and values, and care not for whether the theology of the religion is true, you may still wish to leave it because of disagreements. Maybe the cultural traditions are abhorrent to you, or the values conflict with your own. Hinduism has its caste divisions; Judaism has infant circumcision. Various religions have some seriously messed up things to say about sex, sexuality, and gender.

@Anonymous Well nominally, to avoid persecution, yes.

@TRiG That assumes that religions cannot adapt and must stay the same all the time. Discrimination against dalits is illegal in India. So, the religion may adapt or perish.

unforgettableid(This question is based on an older one which Rabbi Levi Cash posted a few years ago.) Under Charlemagne in the 8th century and the Carolingian emperors, Jews provided wine for Christian mass. But I wonder whether this was actually allowed or not. May Jews sell wine to Christians for them to us...

Q: Definition of "cult"

FlimzyThis question (as well as a few others by the same OP) is scoped to seek answers from "non-cults." This terminology concerns me greatly, and lead to some comments, and eventually a chat discussion on the matter. I see two problems with the term "cult" as it applies to our site, and specifically...
