After 3+ years of chopping down an entire recorded Mass here one gets pretty good at picking out a homily by it's waveform. @caleb, is that a good question you were looking for? how to identify a powerful sermon by it's waveform?

@PeterTurner Been there done that. You edit the some guys enough times you can almost read the waveform like a transcript :)
Good catch @JonEricson -- I read that was going to challenge the guy for evidence on that point, it didn't even occur to me that he had no idea what the point meant in the first place.
@Nikki Welcome to our Q&A site. FYI: Arminian != Armenian. I'd like to hear more about your impressions of him as a preacher, especially when it comes to his theology. — Jon Ericson 16 hours ago

Q: Is methodology advice to pastors too subjective to deal with here?

CalebI just kicked in a 3rd (and because I'm a mod, binding) close vote for this question: How to reach parents of religious education students who do not come to church? However, I have some sympathies for it. It's highly subjective, but there are good and bad kinds of subjective. It's the kind of ...

@Caleb It took me a moment to figure out why he pointed out that Derek Prince was born to British parents!

4:16 PM
@JonEricson I read it several times and never did figure it out, although it was kind of a duh moment when I saw your comment. Arminians and Armenians are both people I deal with regularly.

By the way, this is rather delightful: An organization founded to promote intolerance is upset its members are being intolerant. And that charlatan Eugene Delgaudio is in trouble.
@Caleb The grammar, it hurts.
> Those who uphold the original beliefs of Jacobus Arminius himself, is the common way to define Arminianism, but those of Hugo Grotius, John Wesley and others also understood the term as a sort of umbrella for a bigger alliance of ideas as well.

@TRiG Ow!

In fact, that whole paragraph is painful.

4:43 PM
Btw - You do know that Eugene Delgaudio is the on the Board of Supervisors in my county, right, @Trig? He's in Sterling, which is halfway between Herndon (where I grew up) and Middleburg, (where I live now), VA. Trust me, we all know he's a nut - but he keeps getting elected anyway...

@AffableGeek My first job was in Sterling. My parents live in Fairfax. (And I got a speeding ticket in Herndon once.)

5:40 PM
Really? Next time you're in Northern Virginia, I'd love to get you a drink - or bring you some farm fresh eggs from my chickens, or something! It'd be fun to meet in person.

@AffableGeek Well, if he actually has been using public money (and county staff) for his private campaigns, perhaps he'll be kicked out. I assume there are legal penalties for that kind of thing?

@TRiG yes (provided that you are caught/convicted)
usually fines and/or jail time
a lot of times this kind of thing can be settled out of court for reduced sentence (or even just paying money back)

@waxeagle Delguadio actually amuses me, mainly because he doesn't actually do much. All appearances are that he's more of a scam artist than an activist.
And yes, I'm on his mailing list. The "Dear Fellow Conservative" messages from Ron Paul were one of the low points. Now I'm getting messages from Michelle Bachman. I delete those unread.

5:59 PM
@AffableGeek I'd love to. (But we aren't planning a trip anytime soon.)

@TRiG spending 700k of fundraising money on more fundraising is just..wth

At some point, I begin to wonder whether conservatives have any morality at all, and to wonder whether there's anything they could possibly do to make me hate them more than I currently do.

It's open again and I don't know how to make the question better:
1
Q: What are the signs of Jesus' return?

jugsjeansWhat are the signs of Jesus' second coming? Are there specific things to look for from the Bible, or from ancient Christianity?

I added a couple links and tagged the question a bit more accurately. But here be dragons. :(
