Morning
I've been gone for two weeks, anything change that I need to know about?

@Magisch Smokey autoflagging would be the big thing I suppose
limit is weight 280

So

the weight is 100*(FP/(FN+FP)) per heuristic

7:05 AM
Smokey automatically flags TPU'd reports now?
FN?FP`?

@Magisch even before the TPU, it just requires the weight to be enough

So

False Positives (stuff which wasn't spam but which triggered a heuristic), False Negatives (oops, not what I wanted, but it means spam which didn't trigger a heuristic)
edit: 100*(TP/(TP+FP))

Does feedback affect this autoflagging at all?

True Positive means a heuristic was correctly triggered on something which was flagged as TP

7:08 AM
So basicly it calculates the "correctness odds" of each heuristic

@Magisch indirectly yes, if you tp or fp a hit, it gets included in the calculation forthwith
@Magisch yeah

So then now it's worth even blacklisting websites that are already pattern matched, no?

a perfect heuristic gets a weight of 100

Unless the posts already trip the autoflag

@Magisch well in that case obviously

7:09 AM
@Magisch not when they are caught by pattern matching

but I'm not sure there is a consensus on the near-misses
my take is that if a heuristic can be added to bring something over the weight threshold and it doesn't duplicate an exiting heuristic, it's fair game
so for example if pattern-matching URL already triggered, don't blacklist the URL

Well, in the past, we were a bit resentive when it came to blacklisting websites for which the posts are already being caught easily
But now that we are autoflagging, we blacklist the website even if the post is usually being caught

but if the post contained keywords which are common in spam but it didn't trigger "blacklisted keywords", adding those keywords should be fine

But if the site is caught by similar reasons (e.g. blacklisted/pattern matching websites), don't blacklist
@tripleee yeah

Hello mark

Hi Mark, welcome! What you can do now already, is visiting posts reported by SmokeDetector and flag them (if appropriate, which is 95% of the case).

That's what I do :P

Do use your best judgement though

@Glorfindel great ! what does tpu mean?

Our bot isn't infallible
@MarkYisri That's a feedback type

8:04 AM
True positive I think?

Regulars of charcoal give feedback on reports (true positive, false positive, that sort of stuff) for statistical purposes

@MarkYisri that's part of the feedback system. You can read the FAQ first, to get a hang of what and how we're doing here.

"TPU" or "True Positive" is for posts that have been correctly identified as spam or abusive (basicly anything that merits a red flag is tpu)
We also have a wiki for Smokedector

that one is @ThomasWard's

That wasn't exactly spam...

@Mithrandir no, we flag those as NAA
the heuristics pick up this sort of chaff every once in a while

Yep, I flagged as NAA.

@Mithrandir very low quality

No, it's gibberish. Which we flag as rude/abusive or NAA.

from what i have been told in the past answers like that are to be marked as "rude or abusive" because they are technically an abuse of the system

but we don't actively look for those, it's just a side effect because some of the spam heuristics pick up other sorts of garb

It depends. If it's not a new user, you flag as NAA and blame it on 'cat on the keyboard'.
(that's Shog's advice, at least)
The problem is that 6 NAA flags don't kill such a post, but 6 rude/abusive flags do.

@MarkYisri that's the expectation generally, so we don't usually follow up

are they doing that to clog smokey?

@MarkYisri doing what? junk posts are usually disgruntled users or trolls

i mean post then delete 30 secs later

They don't delete those posts themselves (usually).
Our red flags do that.

@Glorfindel enough flags (or delete votes, for regular bad posts) and poof

i have been up for 20 hours and need to be CVed as "needs sleep"
