@SmokeDetector autoflagged

@Glorfindel That post was not automatically flagged by metasmoke.

and why not?

Because it waited until I flagged

?
Given the massive score of that post, it should've cast an autoflag.
!!/errorlogs 50
@ArtOfCode it's not urgent, but you might want to have a look why this post ^ didn't get autoflagged. It doesn't appear as a failure in the flagging logs.

8:09 AM
I also have a little question
How come no automatic flags have been cast by my account?

What are your settings (preferences & conditions)? And when did you sign up?

I signed up two or three days ago
I set the minimum reasons to 2, and the weight to 180
I see no reason why it shouldn't be flagging
> Flagging enabled (flagging_enabled) 1
Registration enabled (registration_enabled) 1
Min accuracy (min_accuracy) 99
Min post count (min_post_count) 1000
Dry run (dry_run) 0
Max flags (max_flags) 1
Hmm, but didn't I set Max flags to 150?

Hmm ... with 15 participants, the chance that you were not chosen in the last ±200 flags (since Wednesday) is (14/15)^200 = 0.0001%.

Or is this another parameter?

Where do you see these parameters?

8:14 AM
System Settings

Those are global settings.

So what should I do that I haven't already done?

What does this page say for you: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/flagging/preferences
Is the checkbox set?

Yep

And have you specified a preference (the table below the Big Red Button)?

8:17 AM
@M.A.R. Did you actually tick the big red button

there's your problem

But how

There's a list of sites that you can mark

The sites don't appear on the first page load, you'll have to refresh the page.

8:21 AM
@Glorfindel (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
That is the problem

It's a known problem.

It's a known issue yea
But there's your problem

@M.A.R. but this shouldn't be possible. I'll make a GH issue for that.

@M.A.R. You can select them all, even if you don't have accounts on all. If it tries to flag on a site you have no account on, it'll simply errror out and move to the next eligible flagger.

@Magisch Oh, nice
Thanks guys. Now I can finally slack off and still be flagging

I find it astounding just how many people registered for flagging
Shows an enormous amount of trust people place in Undo

user61230
I feel like this is inviting hazard.

user61230
I have a lot of trust in SmokeDetector, but a simple human error could do a lot of damage to Stack Exchange in very little time.

@Emrakul Like what?

I share your concerns, but there are measures in place to prevent those human errors before they happen.

user61230
8:29 AM
Especially when it comes to spam flags, which are designed to work by human agreement and consensus, not automated processes, and carry heavy penalties. I guess it depends on how they're implemented.

I'm pretty confident that undo and art and thomas have a pretty strong grip on that stuff

user61230
No matter how strong someone's grip on the subject matter, human errors happen. Every major website or service has had a big screwup at one point or another.

And I'm pretty confident that the script flags better than me
My flag accuracy is not 99.7 percent.

@Emrakul The worst that could happen (the system running haywire and auto-destroying a bunch of mundane stuff) would still be completly logged (so it's undoable), and any privileged smokey member can stop all autoflagging via command

user61230
What if nobody's here?

8:31 AM
Any moderator can do the same thing
And there's nearly always someone in some room with smokey privs
Moderators don't even need privs

user61230
What if nobody who knows how to do that is here, though?

user61230
I'm not saying it shouldn't exist, just that it's very much playing with fire.

Then there may be a little bit of work for a CM to restore a bunch of deleted posts

@Emrakul It's all still logged, and SE has measures to undo the damage quickly, i'm sure they could even do it in bulk (since we're using the same API key for all cast flags and doing it from the same IP)
All this is in the hypothethical case that the flagging decides to go completly haywire (very unlikely) in a time frame where nobody is here (so pretty much only weekend nights / early mornings and even then 1 guy is usually here)

8:34 AM
@Emrakul if there's Smoke, there's got to be fire :)

There's a reason all of this is designed with multiple failsafes and ridiculously conservatively (with 99% mandated accuracy and whatnot)

Still, I think that in the long run, this saves the community so much time that even if it would fail at a point and require some major intervention from Stack Overflow itself, it's still worth it.

^
I'm confident we can figure out a way to do this properly

You can compare it to airplanes. Yes, they can crash and cause massive casualties, but in the long run, flying is more secure than traveling by car.

there's lots of very intelligent people participating
Currently our algo is more accurate then any of us here are by ourselves
I'm at 99,38% accuracy for all my manually casted flags
The algo I picked for my autoflagging is at 99,78%

8:38 AM
@Magisch that's comparing apples with pears. If I would only flag things I'm 100% certain of, I would be at 100% accuracy myself as well.

point is
the chance of my algo doing worse then I am is nil
It's not gonna go around destroying innocent posts

On the posts it is designed to autoflag, that's correct.

It only handles a subset of posts, true, but it's very good at that.
good enough that I'm very comfortable taking full responsibility for its actions (Me and 15 other people)

@SmokeDetector k

@ArtOfCode a CDN, though you can download the source files in minefield form. Search for bootstrap-select if you want to try it now, otherwise I can give it a go in the morning

12:56 PM
@angussidney will reset in an hour - laptop death

And what was that idea you had @art?

@angussidney yeah, but I can't find where the script is in the HTML

@ThomasWard thanks

Oh, got it

@ArtOfCode /views/layouts/application.html.erb, IIRC

12:58 PM
@angussidney we're loading jQuery twice
selectpicker is only loaded into one of those copies

We have to load jQuery twice? Huh?

No, we don't, but we are
and no I have no idea why
Fix pushed, pending deploy on Undo's return

I thought he gave you access to MS while he was gone?

@angussidney yep, but I don't have the faintest clue how to kick off a deploy
and probably don't have the tools for it, either

Maybe you should have asked about that before he left :P
@undo deploy ready, just in case you see this before you return

1:05 PM
16 hours ago, by Undo
@ArtOfCode you probably don't have tools to deploy metasmoke, but if absolutely necessary that public key is on the ssh list. ssh -i ~/path/to/privkey.pem -p 65522 ubuntu@34.197.90.29 should work, maybe test it before I disappear

@Glorfindel So the flagging routine did run on that, but failed with some obscure error - and the resulting failed flag log was never committed to the database, because its transaction got rolled back.
