I hate how Python hides that
cgitb makes it easier but it's cumbersome for other reasons
@AshishAhujaツ is the backslash here actually the culprit?
fwiw the sh\.st/ blacklist entry looks somewhat prone to false positives
apparently the intent is to match sh.st and not any site whose name ends with *sh.st so it could be tightened up like the ones which follow

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Blacklisted website in answer: iPhone 5 show iOS 9.3.5 as available update not iOS 10 by Ansel Lee on apple.stackexchange.com

@Ferrybig would comitting something over the blacklisted_websites.txt and then pulling again fix it?
It says blacklisted_websites.txt has been modified locally
It says if "blacklisted_websites.txt" in git.status(): in the code to check it
Maybe adding an entry & pulling would make it fall back into place.

tpu- by DavidPostill

no, the code has a check to verify that the local copy of the blacklist is not modified

Yeah, the blacklist command code
modifying the blacklist via github & pulling should overwrite it, bringing it back in sync with the github copy

8:26 AM
I think it won't accept the file, because it uses git pull, and that says "file X has been modified locally" when it has been modified

git will refuse to overwrite any changed file, there's no way to solve this without manual intervention AFAICT
if the code had a way to say "pull no matter what" it would be quite dangerous
classic case of "pick your poison"

right
!!/location

@Magisch ArtOfCode/EC2

So we're waiting for @ArtOfCode to fix this

not being able to update the blacklist until a privileged user turns up seems acceptable currently, though if the privileged users would disappear for a long time, that would be a problem
I suppose the blacklist code should add some exception handling and revert the change if the merge was unsuccessful
though this is a bit of "turtles all the way down"
if we can figure out what went wrong, fixing that code path for a start would be my first priority
I'm looking at it at the moment but it has a nasty online check which is failing for me
response = requests.get(GlobalVars.metasmoke_host + "/api/users/code_privileged", data=json.dumps(payload), headers=headers).json()['items']

8:31 AM
On the bright side, I'm passively learning python dealing with this

I was toying with writing a test case for !!/blacklist but I think I'm giving up for now
I don't think the Unicode in the user name was the problem but I haven't got to the point where I could repro
the test cases have a Unicode glyph in the user name everywhere but there is no test for this particular code path
my test case wanted to do "git stash" and create a new branch and run the blacklist command there, but the code isn't modular enough to let me mock out the parts I want to
or well, not easily
@SmokeDetector f
oops, correction, plagiarism

plagiarism isn't tp
if it looks like an answer, feels like an answer and is an answer, then its fp. Plagiarism is handled seperately via modflag

but I don't particularly want to unblacklist that user

@tripleee User is not blacklisted (206098 on apple.stackexchange.com).

8:39 AM
@tripleee User blacklisted (206098 on apple.stackexchange.com).

I wish the URL blacklist was as easy and straightforward as that
replacing the fugly pull request logic would perhaps be the proper fix here
it's a nice accomplishment but I can't help but think it's going to continue to be brittle
and using the same approach everywhere in the code would simplify things

@arda that's an excellent start

@arda Welcome. What you describe is exactly what I'm doing right now.

if you can run userscripts, adding the FDSC userscript to your browser helps provide the system with feedback
see starred link on the right

9:39 AM
Which one?

@arda welcome! You may wanna read the wiki pages and check our web dashboard. You may also want to ask for privileges for smokey, if you want to feedback to its reports

the one with "FDSC" in the description cdn.rawgit.com/Charcoal-SE/Userscripts/master/fdsc.user.js
oh yeah you need to be added as privileged before that will work, so maybe postpone until you have followed along for a bit

also, if you want to use FDSC, make sure you get privs on smokey and create a account on MS which gets review-approved
MS stands for Metasmoke, the web dashboard

Just created an account. I guess I should ping @Undo ?
@AshishAhuja yeah, I guessed :) Thanks for explaining though

most detected spam gets killed off fairly quickly during daytime in Europe, though I get the feeling there are other time zones where there might be a bit of lag
if you can find undetected spam, that's marvelous
if you can help devise new rules to detect such spam in the future, even more marvelous

9:42 AM
@arda yeah. But even other admins like Art and hichris can approve you I guess. Not sure though
you may also wanna get privileged. I'll create a PR on GH if you want

Sure, that'd be nice.
