@Magisch Not really sure, seems like it didn't fully reset the code state when using the master command, may be intentional since the config file was usually always locally modified, and we didn't want to reset that file
not being able to update the blacklist until a privileged user turns up seems acceptable currently, though if the privileged users would disappear for a long time, that would be a problem
I suppose the blacklist code should add some exception handling and revert the change if the merge was unsuccessful
though this is a bit of "turtles all the way down"
if we can figure out what went wrong, fixing that code path for a start would be my first priority
I'm looking at it at the moment but it has a nasty online check which is failing for me
I was toying with writing a test case for !!/blacklist but I think I'm giving up for now
I don't think the Unicode in the user name was the problem but I haven't got to the point where I could repro
the test cases have a Unicode glyph in the user name everywhere but there is no test for this particular code path
my test case wanted to do "git stash" and create a new branch and run the blacklist command there, but the code isn't modular enough to let me mock out the parts I want to

I remember reading a bit about smokedetector. I want to idk, help keep SE spam-free. Is all I need to do hanging around and flagging the spam posts posted by smokedetector (if they are indeed spam)?
@arda welcome! You may wanna read the wiki pages and check our web dashboard. You may also want to ask for privileges for smokey, if you want to feedback to its reports
most detected spam gets killed off fairly quickly during daytime in Europe, though I get the feeling there are other time zones where there might be a bit of lag
if you can find undetected spam, that's marvelous
if you can help devise new rules to detect such spam in the future, even more marvelous

@arda The list of commands can be found here: github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/wiki/Commands. The short version: reply 'k' to a report if it is spam or abusive (this includes gibberish), 'n' for NAA, and 'f' for a false positive. For self-vandalism, use 'vandalism'.
