@SmokeDetector So smokey barfs on all commands if any have problems? (Metasmoke didn't show checkmark until after that last, solo, tpu.)

9:15 PM
@BrockAdams Well, you put four different words, so it assumes that you want 4 messages.

I.e., sd does not support comments the way replies tpu- do.
Hm, maybe if we had a character for comments like % or // or...

Yeah, but I would assume that it would process them in order until one barfed. Instead it choked on all commands. Not a biggie; but important to know.

Smokey being in Python, maybe #...

@NormalHuman That would be nice, but it's low priority, IMO.

I could add it without too much work, it's a single split before the command is processed.

9:20 PM
Much rather that why info and ability to fp/tp persist for last 50 reports, irregardless of reboots. :)
@NormalHuman Maybe just a simple addendum to the message like: "No commands processed."

@BrockAdams I personally like that best.

[ SmokeDetector ] All-caps title: LIMITING THE NUMBER OF INTERSTITIAL ADS by saadat 68 on stackoverflow.com

Merged... it's a bit confusing how the recent changes are repeated as a "merge commit" as a part of pull request. git...

I'm not a Git power user. Maybe there's a better way for me to update my branch from the Charcoal master?
!!/pull

I do fetch upstream , then checkout master (just in case), then rebase upstream/master. I.e., rebase instead of merge.
That said, my knowledge of git is at the level of that recent xkcd comic.

@NormalHuman Hmm. That sounds like command line stuff. I'm still learning the web interface...

10:06 PM
Yes, command line. The web interface limits your actions in some ways. For a commit that changes only one file (like this one) it's easiest just to go to the main repo github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector and edit there. This way you are putting your edit on top of the most recent version. You don't need direct write access to do that: Github handles the forking process automatically. I.e., you create a temporary fork for a commit, which can be then deleted when the commit is merged.

Thanks, I'll try that next time. :)

A: git - update fork's master & rebase my branch onto it?

Robin GreenYes, it's not fetching anything because of the reason you surmised. And yes, you should add a remote for upstream locally; it will do a fast-forward merge on master. git checkout master # Make sure you are in master git remote add author original_repo_that_you_forked_from # Note: This is in ...

> You’re editing a file in a project you don’t have write access to. Submitting a change to this file will write it to a new branch in your fork BrockA/SmokeDetector, so you can send a pull request.
Back to square one??

That's what I described.

Okay.

The point is that it automatically creates a new branch based on most recent Charcoal repo, without you having to keep your "main" fork up to date with merges.

Okay, I'll definitely try that next time. Thanks!

@NormalHuman, looking at ChatExchange code, those errors seem to be trying to delete the same post more than once. Anyway, most recent one is stamped 2015-11-14 11:31. That's 35 hours ago? I can't see how these logs are relevant to the recent issue.?.

@NormalHuman Yeah, rebase is better, since it either a) fast-forwards your branch if local has no commits that remote doesn't, or b) replays your work on top of remote/branch/HEAD. Chrome's dev process involves a whole lot of rebasing, as otherwise, you get a ton of merge commits.

The error logs do not seem helpful; must have been a CPU usage thing again, a temporary slowdown.
