@Qantas94Heavy Well that depends on whether you think I'm a trustworthy person with a server secure enough to resist attacks from nasty people.

@Undo Nope :P
I don't.

rofl
... okay then :P

I might join when you join my service.
:D
Revenge

hehehe

> An eye for an eye, an IP address/email/password (if no hash)/location/name? for an IP address/email/password (if no hash)/location/name?
@Undo :P ^
BTW: do you use password_hash() and password_verify()?

12:10 AM
I hash passwords :P
@AnnonomusPerson md5

With a SHA1?
@Undo That can be looked up in .0005 seconds!

not with a salt it can't.

Please tell me you salt them
Oh good.
@Undo Still I use a BY_CRYPT or whatever 60 character hash with a long salt generated by a fancy, secure function :P

salt with pepper?

Did someone say pepper?
cough
cough
cough
cough
AAAAACHOOOOOO!
:)

12:14 AM
heh he he

I assume you know what salting (the technical term) means?

Of course
hell I'd be dammed if I didn't

Ahh, you code.
Exactly 200 answers.

@Qantas Y u change name on SO?

@hichris123: idk, saw something in the JS room

12:18 AM
> #GlassUpdates are back with Kit Kat for Glass, photo bundles & more

No video calls anymore???

@AnnonomusPerson Yeah, though not many people used it. And, of course, there's livestream.

12:20 AM
I want Glass.
plzsendtehglass

#plzsendtehglass

Or... you know, I could just send you an invite. :P

@hichris123 And pay $1500

> You're no Apple to be giving this at such a high price Google. You don't have that brand prestige yet. Please lower it if you expect to make sales from this.
^ Wisdom

I wish you could 10x star something

12:24 AM
@Undo ... they don't want sales. They want committed people ($1500 == commitment).

I assume they want to sell the thing at some point

Yeah, but not right now.
> Finally we have KitKat!!

Still, it seems like a high price tag. Do you even use your glass much?

^ One of the threads in the Explorer board.
@AnnonomusPerson Not so much at home, but when I'm out and about, yeah.
It is nice to listen to music...
Oh, what happens if you go to glass-community.com?

So you're using a $1.5K pair of headphones???
@hichris123 Complete your profile

12:26 AM
Lets me right in

@Undo ... screenshot?
@AnnonomusPerson & camera & internet device.

@hichris123 Do you really take photos with it? Maybe I'm just someone who doesn't need that kind of technology.

@Undo That's... scarry.

Ideally, a perfect Glass would give me my dose of SE, be a tool for coding (reference), transcribe texts and calls perfectly....

12:29 AM
@hichris123 why?

@AnnonomusPerson Yeah, a ton of photos.
@Undo It's supposed to be a private community.
> Always show respect for other posters, including Google employees. If you disagree, attack the point, not the person. Because this community is private, don't post or share someone's content outside of the community without their explicit permission.

huh

I don't have any social media accounts, so then Glass would be just photos + internet + music, the last one I can do hands free anyway and the internet seems hard on your head and photos are fine with a phone.
Glass IMHO wouldn't be used by me... :P

gtg, cya

Cya.

12:31 AM
cya

@AnnonomusPerson Hmm...

@hichris123 What are you thinking about that statement?
???

@hichris123: hey, I want that email!

@AnnonomusPerson Gimme a sec!
@Qantas94Heavy Do you have $1500 & US resident & shipping address?

@hichris123 I gave you 220+ seconds!
Some people
:D

12:35 AM
^ All of the apps, if you can read that.

Google Now would be the most useful to me
Evernote sounds cool, just not $1500 cool

@hichris123: the email, not the damm glass
I don't want to get mugged wearing them in the wrong part of town

@Qantas94Heavy ... which email?
Sorry for being slow. :P

the so-called "my@email.here" (no idea if that email actually exists, but i don't give a crap and I WANT IT)

rofl
Googles for ownership of that email address

Q: I don't want to look at my reputation on A51, but the topbar makes me!

hichris123Whenever I click on my profile picture on the main site, I get directed to my reputation page on Area 51. Can someone please tell the topbar that I don't care about Area 51 rep?

2:10 AM
@Undo We need to get into the dev chats. :P

2:24 AM
@Undo I want to start editing. Plz? :P

@hichris123 editing what?

@Undo mSO.

oh
right.
just a minute.

> If you don't have a school email, select that option from the drop-down on the second page, and then the upload field will appear. If you're not seeing that, mind sending a screenshot?

Good $TIMEOFDAY all. I've got a question, related to a possible feature I'm building for Smoke Detector. 1.) Do you guys still use it to automatically watch the real time tab? 2.) Is there a reason you are only looking at the title of the post when you call testpost?

I don't think it's been running for a while now..

I ask, because I build a language detector - for example, if a post on SO isn't english, it should be flagged - and it's really accurate against post body, but has false positives when just against the titles.
Hm, bummer. Wasting my time then :(
Upshot is: I can do language detection :)

You should wait for an answer from someone who know better though

Q: How do weather models work?

hichris123We use different weather models all the time, such as the ECMWF and the GFS. These models are simply amazing to me. How do these models work? I know they have to take in various data points - what are these, and how does the model use it? Also, how do they come up with a forecast or a map of wha...

@Undo rofl.

^ That explains why they're in html, I suppose.

I've already answered a meta question. :D
I'm happy that it launched on a week I'm not that busy, as I can actually ask & answer.

:D

9:12 PM
@Undo ??? Why is there code there? :P

@AnnonomusPerson because some dev borked it :P

Ohh lol
@hichris123 Congrats on the beta status... hoping for ♦?

@AnnonomusPerson Possibly.

@hichris123 Bad answer!!! Try again.
Would kick you for effect but too lazy today :P

@AnnonomusPerson Probably.

9:15 PM
@Undo 2 ♦s vs. a mortal.... ^
Time to kick ^__^

nah
hichris is a good mortal

Given that I've already had 2 meta answers upvoted... meta.earthscience.stackexchange.com/users/20/hichris123 :P

@Undo He's not 100% sure that he is running for ♦...

yes he is.

Yeah he is a good mortal but he can be disobedient :D

9:16 PM
@AnnonomusPerson ... you don't like me? >:(
@Undo rofl.

@hichris123 No I just like forcing some decisions to make people I'm friends [kinda] with improve their SE stuff :D

It's not a really fun job, I can tell you that :P

Shhh! Don't tell him that!

TYPO ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

@Undo ... you don't have fun nuking posts? What is wrong with you?
;)

@hichris123 Oh, nuking stuff is fun. It's making decisions that isn't fun.

Meh... it's not fun sometimes, especially when there's pretty low traffic on your site. However, it's enjoyable to see a community grow.
@Undo wasn't there a lot more traffic on SR when it started than Ar?

oh yes
still is

9:21 PM
wow

... wait, wat?

@hichris123 Maybe the snails ate your request.

That should be the 14th... but it isn't on the page, either.

@hichris123 Most of the time it's fun. Sometimes it's not... like when a user gets upset (not at nuking, of course), especially when you see a user get mad and leave the site for good.

hmm... did they link the email I sent to them?

9:23 PM
@Undo Wat decisions?
Do I upvote this or not? :P

@AnnonomusPerson Yeah... relevant comment:
> I should ask this to some others as well, but it seems you're focusing on the "fun and games" side of moderation. While certainly helpful and appreciated, you will at some point also have to deal with the downsides of being a moderator. Dealing with upset users for example. You will no doubt upset some at some point. How do you see yourself handling that? Are you up to that task? – Bart Feb 10 at 21:36

10:17 PM
(Well not exactly important, but something that should be done sooner or later :P)

... sooner or later. :P

Poor ChrisF is gonna lose his mSO diamond :(

10:32 PM
@Undo :( Isn't it happening tomorrow, when I'm at school?

probably

10:44 PM
@Undo Why?

Because mSE.

I see.
So won't he get a mSE ♦?

right

He'll still have the mSO ♦ tho

I guess my question wasn't off-topic after all:

A: How do weather models work?

Jon EricsonAll numerical atmospheric models are built around calculations derived from primitive equations that describe atmospheric flow. Vilhelm Bjerknes discovered the relationships and thereby became the father of numerical weather prediction. Conceptually, the equations can be thought of as describing ...

10:46 PM
... but mSO will cease to be a 'real site', @3ventic

@3ventic It won't show up in his network profile, though.

It never was a real site, just a special child.

uhmmmm...

It shows modified by me in the active feed because I was the last one to vote to reopen... odd.

@ManishEarth ^ Vuln?

10:48 PM
It just lets you pick your own style sheet?

@Undo Wait a sec...

@Undo not persistent, so no

just a minute.

Q: How do we know that we are NOT in an "Ice Age?"

Tom AuHistorically, the earth has had five "Ice Ages" Each of them lasted millions, tens of millions, or hundreds of millions of years. The last ice age reportedly ended perhaps 10,000 years ago. That seems to represent the beginning of recorded history. Except that a period 10,000 years is a "roundi...

10:50 PM
@Undo running the POST request on a normal site, eh?

haha
@ManishEarth no.
A box that tells a server to grab something from itself seems rather suspicous.
Potential access to sekrit admin stuff, no?

@Undo ... will it work from a remote URL?

probably

So... you can insert your own less files.
Possibly exploitable?

I dunno

10:55 PM
@Undo it's done via a cookie

@ManishEarth So the server doesn't try to get that resource from itself?
@hichris123 We should hack Google
or Apple
or anyone

dev.stackoverflow.com/users/login ← Is that going to be the site design? Are they testing it or what?

yeah

@Undo it's local. control-f cookie on the html source

10:59 PM
okay
pokes GitHub

@hichris123 Maybe with a DoS attack using another server...
I don't think you can do much because I'd think they would have it so multiple people could mess around with the code and then upload it to Git or whatever and then update everybody's code.

@Undo That would be fun. :D

But the only problem is this would all be recorded, even if you deleted this room :)

But I'm a mod, @AnnonomusPerson.
waves purge button in the air

Yay! Glass is updating! :D

11:09 PM
hmm, bug tag is awkward looking
too much whitespace around it

@AnnonomusPerson @hichris123 it loads the file locally
there's no point of having localhost in the default, is there?
because you could just use the external url there
this is for hosting a file locally and using it for testing

> Song search

Song search is a relatively new feature that saw little usage. We wouldn't be surprised to see it come back in someone's Glassware (hint, hint).
:(
@ManishEarth Ah, okay.

@Undo The new bugzilla version is getting released today-ish!
That means I can finally get my security bounty :D
(since the patch isn't merged until just before the release)

I'm poking Gist :D
As can be inferred from this.

@Undo they have a bug bounty too :p

11:19 PM
who does?

rofl
> location 6
@Undo GH I assume.

yeah

11:35 PM

11:49 PM
@ManishEarth Exactly and upload a file that's 200GB. I doubt they would have protections against that, limiting the speed. (on a dev sever, anyway)
Also, will it accept other files?
@Undo Still, it's on server logs.
And screenshots. And in memory.
Holds right hand in air
> Do you swear to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
Yes.
:P

@AnnonomusPerson No, I vote to close the question asking for the whole truth as too broad.

Me too!
3 more people needed.

@Undo?
^ Vote to close?

leaves nasty comment asking why @Annon asked this question

11:53 PM
rotfl now
@hichris123 Hey, I didn't ask it: that's why it's in a blockquote onebox. Don't assume things that aren't true.
