Q: Who can give PAT test labels out in the UK?

Peter David CarterCan any registered electrician give an item a PAT test label, or does it require membership of an additional trade body of some kind? Also, is it legal to sell these items to certified electricians when working in a shop? If so, do they require any particular identification to buy them?

Does this fall into the "legal advice" off topic category, or is it permitted as more of a code compliance question?

@BMitch: It seems to me it straddles both areas. The question might have been better if it was phrased in terms of code compliance. Portable Appliance Testing is mostly something that happens in business premises, like offices, so it wouldn't apply to homeowners. It might be something that would have to dealt with by landlords who supply table-lamps etc as part of fully-furnished accommodation.

@BMitch Off-topic because it's a commercial requirement, not residential

And closed. Thanks for helping with the answer @RedGrittyBrick, I think that really helped.
Oh, I'm not allowed anymore. Move to the Lawyer one then, maybe? — Peter David Carter 11 mins ago
I had to read his stuff on Workplace to see why he might be blocked from asking. Seems like he's had some professional conflicts and from this question, it looks like he still has more. :/
