What is the purpose of spray paint guns? Is it to be less strain on the hand or does it help control, or it is more gimmicky?

really probably depends on the person

it makes them act more like a paint sprayer though

so someone used to a paint sprayer would probably prefer it, but if someone is used to using a spray can, it probably wouldn't help

I don't do a lot of painting, but in general what you are practiced with is going to be what's most natural

so really depends on someone's background
