@Shalvenay Two things about tag wiki excerpts:
1. They don't support any markdown, so the `[tag:whatever]` will show up as `[tag:whatever]`. Also, there's no space between the "tag:" and the "whatever".
2. The excerpt is supposed to explain briefly when and why you would use the tag. One of the canned reject reasons is:
> Simply defining what a [tag] is rarely helps those using it unless the tag's name itself is ambiguous. Excerpts should describe why and when a tag should be used. See the help center for more guidance.

@NiallC. alrighty then -- I'll come up with v2.0 of the tag wiki stuff in the near future here

So, on questions like diy.stackexchange.com/q/78658/43874 , is it better to not answer the question if it doesn't seem like a good fit for the site?
Is answering like "feeding a stray cat" ?

@JPhi1618 it is a strange question...

He already commented to me that he just doesn't want the useless switch.
That's fine if he wants to pay $50 for a hack that gets rid of the switch rather than a $25 switch expicitly made for what he wants.
@RoryAlsop, (above comment... forgot to @ you)

:-)
I don't get why he wants the switches gone. If he never wants to use them, that's fine, but they might be useful some day

I see the desire for the clean install, but I'm not going to pay $50/room for a solution that "kinda" works.
I don't want to violate electric code, but I'm sure the Hue switch could be used as a blank faceplate.
This is pretty trashy, but I'm sure I could do better:

hi. I am entirely new here (and to forums in general) but just wanted to thank anyone who cares to be thanked for all answers to my questions. this is a very valuable forum for technical expertise. I will do my best to answer anything I can and contribute where possible.

@personalprivacyadvocate Hi, welcome.
So, the basic way this works, is everything you do, and every up vote you get increases your rep, or reputation.
The higher your rep, the more "rights" you have. For instance, you have to reach a certain level before you can downvote.
Higher rep users can edit other peoples posts, close questions that don't fit, etc.
It allows the community to "self police" itself. Avid users get more control, and passers-by don't have enough control to mess anything up.
If you just want to ask a question and give some answers but don't really care about the "community" aspects, the rep and badges are largely meaningless.
Also, this "chat room" ends up working more like a message board because people don't actively sit here and chat back and forth on a regular basis, as you can see by the times next to each message.
