I won't be offended if another mod slaps my wrist, I couldn't help it:
I think what you need is an anti-gravity machine to get the water to flow uphill. That, a water pump, or you could borrow M.C. Escher's Waterfall technology. But the anti-gravity machine would be useful for other tasks around the house, hence my recommendation. — BMitch ♦ 1 min ago

I HATE ASCII art! We don't work on consoles anymore, we have graphical displays.

Q: Three-way switch problem, potentially faulty

RyanI have a fairly specific question related to three-way switches. While I understand in principal how they work and how to wire them (I think anyway), my specific wiring is not generating the expected results. Here is the current wiring: ---------- Switch 1: Switch 2: --...

You might get your wiring right, if you stopped drawing your schematics in ASCII art!

@Tester101 I had the same response, well, actually this means I get a new credit card and have to watch my bill a little closer this month if it's just the credit card details they stole.
@Tester101 When SE automatically turns me ASCII art into a pretty picture, I'll post pretty pictures. :)

Tell me under what circumstances you can use that page.

Anybody know how to figure out what the temperature change per inch underground in a given area? For example. let's say I put a temperature probe 5" underground in New York. What is the temperature range I should expect to see over the course of a year? If I move the probe deeper/shallower, what should I expect?

It would be linear. So find the freeze line, temp should be the same all year. Plot a gradient
Generally, it's a laplace transform over the test column, with an infinite heat sink at the bottom, and a variable heat source at the top.
But that course was 20 years ago and I can't tell you any more...
Lots of partial differential equations.
