Look at the question. It's clear. Look at the answers. Neither answer the question. It doesn't improve the internet. Seems clear to me. I don't want to put up a bounty - it's not worth my paltry reputation. I had extended discussion in the comments and people still don't get it. Fine. I'll downvote the useless answers.

Seriously, it's not a difficult concept - look at 99% of stackoverflow questions - people actually answer the question.

@TreyJackson from your question "what amount of stone should I order?" and you have an answer that says order the amount uncompacted and compact it. No ratio needed, or the ratio is implied to be 1:1. I don't know if that's the correct answer, but it is answering your question.
My own suspicion to the answer is that "it depends" and you tend to order a little extra or make an extra trip to the home improvement store for more.

Q: When ordering crushed stone for path, how much should be ordered to allow for compaction?

Trey JacksonI'm putting in a stepping stone path. The stones will be on top of 4" of packed, 3/4"- (three quarter minus) stone - which packs to a nice, solid base. My question is, if I know that the volume of the stone in the path is going to be (for example) one cubic yard (3'x3'x3'), what amount of stone...
