12:00 AM
I ran this session with @Emrakul, who had seen the Doctor Who story, and he didn't even recognise it for most of the game.

THE HORROR OF FANG ROCK IS GOOD.

[pops out]

As a Keeper (Mythos GM) with no prior experience running horror, having the cues from the TV show to help support my visualisation was very valuable.

I need to increase my visual media input at some point, it really helps.

It does, though too much reliance on that can blunt other tools in a GM's arsenal. Smell and feel are crucial for horror, I think.
For example: the Rutan is bioelectric, so I used lingering static electricity to signal its passing. Your hair standing on end, the smell of ozone, and little static shocks.

12:05 AM
ooooh, nice.
Hmmm. My Fate characters are by the stormy sea. I should remember to add some of those feelings and smelles…

I never had to explain "Hey, Rutans are bioelectric." I just gave those clues to "Mythos Stuff Was Here," and put electric burn marks on its victims.
@Anaphory Salt. The briney smell of salt and seaweed is everywhere. Salt builds up on everything, griming windows and rusting metal.

Yes! Except not that much rusting metal. It's ancient greece.

Algae grows on buildings, light wood rots quickly, mould grows on anything left alone and dark.
(I live on a small tropical island. I know sea problems.)

I should make a moves list, just as any AW hack, to remind me of things like this.
Next thing: What should I run a Shadowrun-setting one-shot in? Aγων, which I have never played before, not in plain style either? Some Fate variant (accelerated, edgerunner)? Some kind of AW hack? What if I want a game that strongly supports the “right to dream” agenda, which I understand as “The goal of this instant of play is to build a consistent story from unfolding causes into effects”?

Well, first off I'd think of looking at Aeon Wave.
It's probably not exactly what you want, but it's a great example of a cyberpunk one-shot in Fate.
(Complete with techniques for half-made premade PCs that I've stolen for almost every game since.)
Aeon Wave and ARRPG are the two Fate products most influential on my gaming.

12:17 AM
Evidently the progeny was very much a pill today. :/

o/ @Emrakul

@Anaphory You might also look at Roll For Shoes: for a dynamically evolving discovery system, it's hard to beat.

Quite, yes. I think the blue might have been a close choice today.

Hmm. I'll need to run Roll for Shoes at some point, but I'm not sure it's the right thing for this.
My plan for RfS was Dungeon Ball, when I need to run some game for a lot of people with drop-in-drop-out capability.
(but that hasn't happened yet.)

Huh. I found the portable drive that has the entire 4e library on it in PDF from a friend. Provenance is unknown.

12:30 AM
@Anaphory Let's see if I can summon our local splatpunk expert. @lisardggY! @lisardggY! @lisardggY!

Is that like chanting Hastur three times?

He's not here, so... no?

'kay. Will be back later, good night, folks!

But good.

Instrument Landing System -- aka how airliners land in bad weather

rpg.stackexchange.com/a/56009/1084 tried to clean this up so it makes sense

Clevinger asks for more server crashes:
Hey, it's Friday night, you're on Twitter, so you're a huge nerd, so check out Atomic Robo now that it's freeeeee http://atomic-robo.com
@Anaphory Thanks for the phrase "right to dream." I hadn't read that Forge article before.

3:13 AM
Is there a way to ask "how do I optimize my 4e Bear Shaman healer starting at level 1?" That is acceptable

Check out existing questions with the tag, especially those in .

Thanks!

Morning!

Nooooo, mah morning!

A dispute! Give you a bukk? It is hardly worth more.
...a walrus of a pun. Too much, perhaps, even for me.

I'm not sure mountains are tenable currency.

People have tenned them before.

5:10 AM
@doppelgreener So, I'm beginning to write out class structures for this, and if'n you have a moment, it's something I'd like feedback on. (Also, questions about how best to store data tables in C#.)

@Emrakul Today he's moving house.

5:34 AM
@JohnP I try. Very hard.

user61230
@BESW Oh come on. I'm more important than that.

user61230
He wouldn't abandon me just to move some stuff between his silly houses, no. Be realistic!

Realism is an illusory concept!

[cough] There is way too much cayenne pepper in this drink.
It's awesome, though. Beet juice and apple juice and carrot juice and ginger and cayenne pepper and probably some other stuff I can't remember.

user61230
7:58 AM
See, it's the other stuff you can't remember that I'm worried about.

user61230
:P

I woke up with this strange sense of having been summoned.
Like a pulling sensation, deep in my bowels.

Lay off the curry vindaloo before bed.

Never!
I take it there was a something-punk related emergency at some point?

I'm afraid I don't have any concrete recommendations, not having actually played any cyberpunk in over a decade.
I keep meaning to check out Savage Worlds to serve as a crunchy system, and I'm told Interface Zero is a good SW adaptation.
Entirely irrelevant, though, a couple of friends of mine who've moved to London over the last couple of years have started a webcomic about, well, Israeli gamers who are moving to London. In case it's up anyone's alley. uptofourplayers.com
And now, off in search of breakfast and cough syrup.

@lisardggY Don't do that! I like having you around!

@lisardggY Talk about "Write what you know."

What is your problem, code?
Let's try this again.

Morning!
@lisardggY Cheers, will have a look.
(off to look for Interface Zero)

11:33 AM
Atomic robo: www.atomic-robo.com is the shop, whereas without the www, atomic-robo.com is the webcomic. This is confusing.

user61230
@doppelgreener As a side note, you're totally right. Now that I'm using C# instead of Java, despite knowing so little about it at this point, I'm astronomically more impressed.

user61230
(Granted this is my first real foray into test-driven development, which Java really uh, isn't good at, but still.)

Yo

12:09 PM
@Emrakul I'd be happy to feed some back, and also I'm interested to hear what has you that impressed! For now though I'm going to sleep. Goodnight!

12:37 PM
Chat has a built in dice service?!

Hi guys

@DavidWilkins The roller supports: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20. You can roll up to four sets of XdY using one of those dice, where X is up to 9. X defaults to 1, Y defaults to 6. However, you have to enter the value on its own comment line. Sticky returns don't work.
@kviiri Hey.

I took a short break from my major RP campaigns but managed to get most of my players back to continue their hopeless adventure in the aftermath of the Apocalypse.

Cool.

Meanwhile, I've also found out that my other RPG party isn't alone with the "Shadowrun using Apocalypse World moves" thing shadowrun-apocalypse.obsidianportal.com/wikis/basic-moves

Tonight we had all my IRL group but none of our Skypers (Greener and his friend), so we played Munchkin, Ben rebuilt his Jedi, and Raycia designed a Cthulhu Dark scenario that she'll run at some point in the future (her first time running any RPG ever), and Trogdor watched Mystery, Incorporated.

2:32 PM
My AW party really wants to try out the battle moves but I'm a bit confused on how they're supposed to work (well, mainly the one move I just asked a question about)

I'm no help with splatworld.

Well, I'm fairly confident in rpg.se's abilities. I expect there'll be a good answer within 12 hours :P

Heh, yeah.

I guess it's because of the smaller size of RPG.se... people aren't as anxious to get their answers in first and so they put more effort into crafting a great answer.
I'm also trying to get my players to translate game concepts like "psychic maelstrom" into Finnish (not because we don't understand them, but rather because it feels awkward to use English terms in the middle of Finnish sentences)

2 hours later…
5:10 PM
herro
@kviiri oh we are still anxious to get first to post, especially if its an easy answer
Ive been sniped and have sniped otheres many times

2 hours later…
6:41 PM
Well it's nothing compared to what they got in Stack Overflow :>

4 hours later…
11:06 PM
Ooooh interesting stuff you discussed hours ago…
@kviiri: I remember I had only vague ideas of what that move was supposed to do when I first encountered it, but that was before I had found my way here.

the Burning Wheel Gold dedication: "This book is dedicated to a lost, confused, 19-year old boy. Follow your dreams, dumbass, but be careful what you wish for. You might get it - and then what the hell will you do?"

ahahaha the back cover of BWG
