12:17 AM
@LitheOhm yes

12:58 AM
so am I doing this "respond to a bad answer with an answer of your own" thing right?

1:09 AM
@KRyan That's what I do instead of downvoting.

I'm not sure if calling out the other person directly is ideal.

@okeefe you really should do both
@BESW ideal, no, but I think it's necessary. None of the things I'm addressing have anything to do with the question, there just a series of misinformations that the accepted answer provided
and commenting on d7's answers and suggesting that aspects are either unnecessary or inaccurate has gotten me nowhere in the past
@BESW I am considering removing my subpoint a. It's not really necessary and verges on my own unnecessary commentary
on the other hand, it does address a point that d7 made that I consider highly inaccurate
but it's a difficult statement to just have as a subpoint without backing it up, and that's too much a separate conversation

@KRyan I find that poor answers get voted down without my assistance. I get more satisfaction in writing an answer.
Or commenting.

@okeefe why is it a mutually exclusive thing?

@KRyan A downvote isn't useful to the writer, where a comment could be. Another answer is likewise more useful to the questioner and audience. And, again, downvotes don't need my help.

1:25 AM
@KRyan He's not claiming they're mutually exclusive. He's saying they fulfill different functions on the site, and that he prefers to contribute in ways that downvotes don't enable.

@BESW mm
it's a minor thing anyway

True that.

2:20 AM
@Aether Charlin's got a lot more in the way of motive!
That's a lovely trouble which I can see compelling in nearly any situation dealing with either luck or "what ought to happen."
"Looking for answers" could perhaps be fine-tuned. Maybe instead of "answers," he's looking for "meaning"? that would reinforce his scholarly nature as well.
You could invoke it any time he's trying to figure something out, and I could compel it to make him poke his nose where he shouldn't.

Mornin'

2:36 AM
Heyo.

2:58 AM
...I need to stop gawking at Wikipedia talk pages.
> I find it interesting that this material is so poorly treated here, given its antiquity and importance as a material among nomadic peoples, and though I would fill in the blanks, so to speak, I am, perhaps, at one with the anonymous contributor who just wants to get hold of a big piece of felt, so as to use it to avoid the attentions of remote surveillance devices! (Talk:Felt‌)

@Pureferret Hi!

Yo!

What's new?

12:14 PM
@BESW Thanks for the feedback.

@Aether I really like the ideas you're coming out with.

I think you're right about the Looking for Meaning aspect
I'm not sure why Charlin can't use magic, but I'm getting some ideas for it...

@Aether Maybe we'll find out during play!

That's the idea!

My players have put a few things in their backstories that are basically "please fill in during play."

12:17 PM
I left a bunch of things specifically vague to flesh out during play

It gives the GM sometimes tangible to sink his teeth into in terms of steering the game, which is nice.

Yeah, and not just the GM, too
Other players get to use/include/share the details as they come to life

Aye.

Having said that, I think it would be quite interesting to have a progression of aspects that indicate Charlin's idea of how he fits in with Destiny, even if that's not entirely accurate...

Definitely!
One thing I love about FATE's character progression is the way minor milestones are designed to encourage character development rather than mechanical advancement.

12:25 PM
Yeah. Increase of refresh is nice, boosting your approaches is nice, but getting to evolve your aspects is what it's about.

I'm imagining Charlin and Flurf traveling together. Could be amusing.

Yep. Wandering the forest, looking for things, no real destination in mind.
[Enter GM]

Aye.
My vision is to basically just put interesting things in your path and see what happens.
Probably just take hazards and characters out of the books; Herman would be fun to meet.
@RichardMorgan Hi!

12:45 PM
@BESW Are you also playing with Aether?

I've got something like four people who want in on our little game.

Neat
Then we can write cross stories

I am still thinking on the backstory
I like Charlin

1:03 PM
If you two want to get together with Problematic and anyone else who's interested, and do your character creation phases while I'm out of touch in Israel, that'd be cool.

Sure, we can try trying
At least I can try to try

@BESW Not much atm, you?

@Pureferret Putting together the roots of a FATE Core PbC game before I head out to Israel for a week and a half.

@BESW Sounds cool! What're you doing in Israel, if you don't mind me asking?

@Pureferret Not at all.

1:11 PM
@BESW So, what're you doing in Israel ? :p

I'll be in Haifa for the Baha'i international convention.

@BESW Cool beans, are you Baha'ite (?)

Every five years the National Spiritual Assemblies from all over the world go to Haifa to elect the international administrative body, the Universal House of Justice.
@Pureferret Yeah, I'm a Baha'i. I was elected to serve on the National Spiritual Assembly for my area, and it's one of those five years, so...

@BESW Sounds awesome
Excited?

1:13 PM
Rather! I've only been once before, on pilgrimage when I was 17.

@BESW Wow
I had a pilgramage to Mecca lined up over the winter but the Imam leading us, his wife had recently gotten cancer so the trip was canceled

Haifa and its environs are the major holy sites for the Baha'i Faith; the central Figures of the Faith --including its Founder, Bahá'u'lláh-- are buried there, and it's the administrative center as well.

@BESW nice to know about other faiths :)

@Pureferret I hope she's handling it well, and that you get to go soon.

@waxeagle Try targeting these people: rpg.stackexchange.com/tags/experience-points/topusers
@BESW She passed away unfortunately :(

1:16 PM
@Pureferret I'm sorry to hear that.

@Pureferret I was able to do it and I only have a score of 5 there...

I should check up on him soon to see how he is coping with it, to be honest
@waxeagle I don't even have that

@Pureferret Aye. Baha'is are encouraged to study other faiths, as we believe they're all pieces of the progressively revealed Timeless Faith of God.

@Pureferret gotcha.

@BESW I don't muslims are encouraged to study them, but tolerance is more than encouraged

1:18 PM
The Baha'i Faith comes out of Islam in the way that Christianity comes from Judaism; Bahá'u'lláh was born a Muslim, in Tehran.

@BESW Go on

@Pureferret Maybe should move to a separate chat, in that case. Don't want to hijack the main RPG chat.

@BESW Fair enough

Let's see...
Lithe and I were chatting about the Baha'i Faith in that room last week.
No sense in needless duplication.

In terms of RPG, I'm looking forward to the next 3 day Only War session coming up for my group in July

1:24 PM
I'm unfamiliar with that... system? setting?

LARP?

It's the imperial guard version of the WH40K RPG series

Ah.

Ah, no. It's Yet Another WH40K RPG Book

Dark Heresy ->Rogue Traders -> Black Crudsade - > Only War
Yup

1:27 PM
A 3-day session is pretty intense!

@Aether It's only once a quarter though
friday evening ->sunday afternoon/evening

Greetings, folks.

@Problematic Greetings

@Problematic good morrow!

Good morning all

1:40 PM
@C.Ross wanna synonymize and merge something? meta.rpg.stackexchange.com/a/2874/1084

Everyone is here! Woot

Greetings
@Aether @Problematic So the three of us are going to play in @BESW game, am I correct?

And I think one other? Can't recall.

Possibly Oblivious Sage?
@MaurycyZarzycki That's the plan, but it all hinges on finding a mutually agreeable time to play (or working out asynchronicity)

ooh what game?

1:46 PM
@waxeagle FATE Core, some time early next month.

chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/8403/besws-fae-game-room I've created a room so we can create the cross-stories in peace or something

@BESW fun

@BESW Fate Core or FAE?

@MaurycyZarzycki FAE? It seems like it'd work better.

FAE, I think
That's what we've built our characters in so far

1:47 PM
I got confused because you just told waxeagle that it is Fate Core

Yeah, sorry.
My brain is frozen chunky peanut butter and I'm trying to discuss the Lesser Covenant without having talked about the Greater Covenant first.

No probs
I've got to run from the office now

@BESW Lesser Covenant and Greater Covenant?
dare I ask?

@C.Ross Pop on over to the other chat and start here.

@BESW ah

1:59 PM
@BESW guess I'd better switch to reading the FAE book then

2:15 PM
Urrgh. Bed.
g'night, all.

2 hours later…
Rob
4:11 PM
Bibble

@Rob ...Bibble, toil and tribble?

Rob
Indeedy :)
And in Genoa, 'tis now the fashion to pin a live frog to the shoulder braid, stand in a bucket and go "bibble" at passers by.
