6:00 PM
you can grab the deb from the official website if you want to.

@fredzvt You can drop a symlink to /usr/local/bin if nothing else works.

@Mahesh, even when I call the command "mvn" from inside the bin folder where the script is it doesn't work, only when I call "./mvn" that's what i'm finding strange. It seems not to be a PATH problem.
Look, from my terminal:

fred@Fred-Ubuntu:/opt/apache-maven-3.0.5/bin$ mvn -version
The program 'mvn' can be found in the following packages:
* maven
* maven2
Try: sudo apt-get install <selected package>

fred@Fred-Ubuntu:/opt/apache-maven-3.0.5/bin$ ./mvn -version
Apache Maven 3.0.5 (r01de14724cdef164cd33c7c8c2fe155faf9602da; 2013-02-19 10:51:28-0300)
Maven home: /opt/apache-maven-3.0.5
Java version: 1.7.0_12-ea, vendor: Oracle Corporation
Java home: /usr/local/java/jdk1.7.0_12/jre
Default locale: en_US, platform encoding: UTF-8

My app is now available in 15 new European countries.

@GeorgeEdison cool

5 mins ago, by Mahesh
@fredzvt The current directory (.) is not on the path by default. and you have not added it.
5 mins ago, by Mahesh
so the directory you are in does not matter.
@fredzvt So it does not matter if you are in the bin folder or anywhere else.
@GeorgeEdison gitdroid?

6:05 PM
Yes.

@GeorgeEdison wow, so do you have to go through the process for every Europe country?

@GeorgeEdison The app is cool. But I can't use a credit card lol

use cherries.

@AmithKK I haven't added India yet - so you wouldn't be able to at the moment.

@GeorgeEdison Oh yes you did

6:06 PM
do they have a gift system on Google Play?

???
@mateo_salta I'm afraid I don't think they do.

hm...

BBT
Good Night

100 rupees. Affordable.

@AmithKK Yeah - but it says "incompatible".
If you click the little '+' it will tell you that it's not available in your country.

6:08 PM
@Mahesh, when I put the "./" in front of a command, didn't I'm tellling terminal to run a shell script? Isn't the same of putting a "sh" in front of the command?

oh. Add India plz.
I'll buy it. but Let me get a droid first. :P
I still live with a smart phone from the 90s.
@fredzvt no. It means run the executable in the current folder.
. means the current folder.
* (DOT). I dont think its visible.
and DOT DOT is the parent folder.
you can run an executable by providing its full path.
absolute, or relative.
absolute means you start at the root.

what was the lowest android version @GeorgeEdison

example : /bin/bash

(the lowest i have is 4.0 but just wondering)

@mateo_salta 4.0 I believe.

6:11 PM
if you are in /bin already, you can say ./bash to mean the same.
now $PATH is a convenience. If you have a folder in there, you can skip the folder prefix for all executables in that folder.

Hmmm... now it seems to be a PATH problem, indeed! :D
I've positioned my terminal at /, did what you spoke and it works, see:

fred@Fred-Ubuntu:/$ /opt/apache-maven-3.0.5/bin/mvn -version
Apache Maven 3.0.5 (r01de14724cdef164cd33c7c8c2fe155faf9602da; 2013-02-19 10:51:28-0300)
Maven home: /opt/apache-maven-3.0.5
Java version: 1.7.0_12-ea, vendor: Oracle Corporation
Java home: /usr/local/java/jdk1.7.0_12/jre
Default locale: en_US, platform encoding: UTF-8
OS name: "linux", version: "3.5.0-25-generic", arch: "i386", family: "unix"

@fredzvt try updating $PATH.
add /opt/apache-maven-3.0.5/bin to it.
and remove whatever corresponding $MAVEn... you had.

@fredzvt export PATH=$PATH:/opt/apache-maven-3.0.5/bin

try if that works.

The first of many bugs I am filing against OpenSSH: bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2085
@MarcoCeppi I know you mentioned that you would have no use for a Git client for Android, but if you know any friends that do, please point them to GitDroid :)

6:18 PM
Will do

Yes! It worked, @Mahesh! Thanks so much!
I've used variables inside PATH in CentOS and I didn't know that in Ubuntu it didn't worked.

@fredzvt It should have worked. Donnow whats wrong there.
*dont know.

I see an example in like the above in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EnvironmentVariables
PATH DEFAULT=${PATH}:${HOME}/MyPrograms
Maybe the syntax is ${varname}, i'll try.
That's it, @Mahesh!

cool. Glad that it worked. :)

Thanks so much for your help!

6:26 PM
@fredzvt checkout unity-tweak-tool if you are using unity. (shameless self promotion. :P )

I think I already have a while ago, when I've had try to small the system fonts. :)
Then, it's the second time you have helped me! \o/

6:50 PM
...and here is bug #2.

Good show @GeorgeEdison. Getting your name on openssh is probably a good thing ;)

I just hope they accept the patches.

Me too. I was a little perturbed that thePanz didn't accept the commit on github so it just showed a comment and an open pull request, but not that the abraham account had contributed to any projects. (he noted in comments that he applied it)

About the only two projects I've ever submitted patches to are libgit2 and Planet Venus. The former was accepted and the latter is still sitting around waiting to be reviewed.

I wonder how one packages a blendergame to software center since I can't find an "open blend and export" command line option to fake a makefile.

7:04 PM
...and here is bug #3 (this is fun!)

Yeah, I'm working on a different C/C++ project at the moment. Getting this family of utilities: newgre.net/ncodehook working cross-platform without imports in kernel and userspace all compiled from the linux side.
(oh and trying for ARM too with armstorm even though it's really nascent)
Also, I just found out you can test SMS applications on android emulators since the port number is also the pseudo phone-number

7:23 PM
@Mahesh: I've added India now. It may take a few minutes before showing up.

@GeorgeEdison Thanks.
Yours will be the first application I'll install after getting my droid. I simply can't live without git.

1 hour later…
Gui
8:44 PM
@AmithKK you forgot about @GeorgeEdison and @MarcoCeppi both who have been here longer then me...

9:29 PM
NOOOOOOOOOO Please don't change this! I want to submit my comment by pressing enter! Like people have mentioned, there is a workaround for the few people that don't like this. If you reverse it, what workaround would there be for the others? — Seth 2 mins ago
The whole comment world is in danger! We must save it!

Enter "accidentally" submits anything? Geez... I thought that was what enter was for? Someone needs to check-out remapping keys or something.
3

I know right!?!?!

Enter is a form finalization key. If some user has a problem with the same, I would suggest they remap the enter key to result in shift-enter. Most humans anticipate enter completing an entry. — Call me V 22 secs ago

@SavasVedova I'm afraid I can't help with that...
@CallmeV Uptick.

9:48 PM
Announcement: I have decided to finally retire the name "George Edison" from use on Stack Exchange. As of tomorrow, I will be changing my username everywhere to "Nathan Osman", which is my real name.
4

@GeorgeEdison NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

@GeorgeEdison I have one letter: Y?

GE!

Well, a lot of people have become confused when they find out that's not my real name.

So... ?

9:51 PM
It gets worse when people use one of my programs and discover that it was written by some weird "Nathan" guy.

Well OK I can understand that...

...and I'm using my real name pretty much everywhere else.
(Launchpad, etc.)

But ... then I will have the same problems like with Seth, where I type @Geo ... Oh, dangit, not his name anymore!

Yeah, there's not much I can do about that I'm afraid.

:'(

9:52 PM
Actually, a while back, there was another George anyway and so we'd end up with each other's message.
So I'm kind of used to that :P

BTW, why did you use GE in the first place?

@GeorgeEdison Well, at least i won't be telling my friends tha George Edi... Nathan makes awesome programs

@Seth That was quite a long time ago! I was much younger then. The name kind of just stuck.
And regrettably, I waited this long to make the final decision.

OK..
I guess you have been GE for quite a long time...
I won't even start to compare your age to @jrg 's :P

Let's see if I can find my oldest post...
There we go... all the way back to 2009.

9:56 PM
XD
It's funny to go back and read your first post... and see everything you did then that you wouldn't do now..

You're right.

@Seth Your download answer is wrong
that's the cloud image

I know.
Editing now.

@JorgeCastro Would you (or anyone you know) have a use for a Git client for Android?

10:07 PM
not me personally no, but if someone needs one I'll let them know about yours!

Thanks!

@JorgeCastro "You can download Beta 1 ISOs from:"

yeah but there's no normal ubuntu ISO there

Yes, that's true.

I don't think an ISO has been announced tbh

10:09 PM
I'm just going to delete the whole thing and start over.

I don't think it's answerable at the moment

maybe not..
@JorgeCastro Does it look better now?
IDK if I should undelete it, but at least it should look better.

The images for official derivatives seem easy to find ...any idea where the image for vanilla Ubuntu is (or why it's not available)? — Eliah Kagan 14 mins ago

^-- Something I've actually been wondering for a while myself.
I mean, we know it already exists.
So why isn't it available, while the flavor ones are?

there are daily ISOs of raring
I was under the impression that there wasn't going to be a beta

Yeah me too.

10:21 PM
So, we skip the beta entirely?

Though I took that to mean no betas what-so-ever.

I figured we'd just rename the beta, or have it run under a different format with the same publicity.
This just seems like a reason for me to skip 13.04 as well, after the kinda-mess 12.10 turned out to be for me.

No, Shuttleworth doesn't want Unity criticism until he's all done with it.
7

sigh

There we go guys.
Edited all that in with links for your reading.

10:41 PM
They need a "design" issues only stage, or something, instead of doing all of that behind closed doors, because afterwards fileing user interface/design/feature requests get auto shot down because of a preconcieved vision.

"mentioning that Unity's new features wouldn't be talked about or discussed until they were ready to be officially released."
I don't think that has anything to do with the ISO
considering there's a daily ISO every day

Maybe if they did a "preview" version, where it just shows look a feel like the online tour

@Seth ok I asked in the release channel, it's just not out yet.

11:31 PM
@JorgeCastro Oh, OK. Thanks.

I hate Firefox 20.
They changed the Downloads window.

FINALLY!
\o/

11:48 PM
@FEichinger I can see that I don't have my system up-to-date :S

lol. I had to run an update as well XD

There seem to be some versions Firefox just doesn't want to autoupdate.

But where is that new "home tab" feature? I really wanted to see that...

@Mike Upvoted in 27 seconds ;)
Double voted in 44 seconds!

@Seth I've not really kept track with FF development for the past 10-ish versions, so ... what?

11:55 PM
@FEichinger Err.. I can't find any articles on it now..
