@Eric The sad part is that it's not likely to fix anything. The answer is very hard to Google for. I've already tried. And given that Music.SE has very few classical musicians, it's likely that most of them have already seen the question. It's currently #2 highest voted unanswered question.

@Eric I think so, looking at the recent tags. Piano has a pretty good slice, though not as big as guitar, but a lot of it is beginner stuff. Violin is about 20% the size of guitar, and cello is small enough not to register on the site. I'm strongly suspecting there are no professional cellists on the site based on the questions that are present.
@Eric Actually I've seen this question too. But isn't it trivial in theory? I can build a DFA to do it easily, and there's an easy algorithm to get a Regular Expression from any DFA. Granted that's not going to be the most efficient way, but the question doesn't mention efficiency at all.

I see. This is a bit tangential, but what's the difference between CS.SE and TCS.SE? Supposedly TCS is supposed to be research-level stuff, but I find I actually understand the stuff there better than what's at CS.
They actually have a nice definition of what's allowed on TCS vs CS.

I'm surprised you can understand it since you're not studying in a CS field. But that's what it's for; CS.SE is mostly able to be easily applied to a practical situation.

@Eric I think it's because I've studied a lot of discrete math. CS tends to have a lot of stuff about specific architectures, compilers, etc, which I don't know the first thing about. TCS tends to be a lot more math-heavy. It's true that I still don't know the terms they use, but I can look them up, and I can usually understand it once I know all the relevant definitions.

I used to use Windows just to play Touhou, but the newest versions of Wine can handle Touhou pretty well. Now I only use it because transferring all my files to my Linux partition is too much work.

Also my other computer has tons of stuff that's Windows-exclusive installed, so I've gotten used to running Windows as my default OS rather than Linux.

@Eric It's not really intuitive that "you have to have a tag" and you need a lot of rep to make tags but that there's a tag for when you can't make tags so that someone else will make it for you. It'd be much better if it were built in to the SE software that new users could suggest tags for approval or something of that nature.
Actually they mentioned that on one of the podcasts also a couple months back. It seems like they're intending to make some changes regarding this, but I don't know exactly what.
@LoganM It's supposed to come up on synonyms, though. So when someone tries anime, it goes to retag. I do hope they'll make some software feature to cover it, though.
@Eric They mentioned it on the podcast, that scifi and gaming and a lot of other non-programming sites lose a lot of potential users who try to ask a question, and can't figure out the tagging system. I'd assume we're in the same boat.
@Eric Blacklist shouldn't be an issue. It only comes up if someone tries to create anime, but they can't even create tags yet.
Those are blacklisted. It also wouldn't make a bit of difference. When you search for tags, they're ordered in terms of what has the most questions, not what is the best match.
@Eric I could just type "an" if I was thinking about it, but I've typed "anime" enough times that it's muscle memory now. It's way easier for me to type the whole word than just a couple of letters.
@LoganM Probably true. It depends whether we want to use tags for our own benefit or new users', though. We don't want people to not ask a question because there isn't a tag.
The other difficulty is that I don't want people thinking that anime is actually a synonym for retag. It isn't. You aren't allowed to not bother with tagging properly because your question is about anime.
@Eric I'm skeptical whether the retag tag will solve this problem. It hasn't worked so far. Even if using anime was better, I doubt that there are more than a couple of users who would ever be affected by using anime instead of anime-retag.
@Eric Yes, that's part of it. Another part is that people may use anime without even thinking about it, and that'll just make more work.
@Eric Honestly, most people who try to make a tag the first time and fail are already going to leave without trying another thing. There are other forums offering similar services to us with better user experience. If they decide to try anime it's more likely that they'll just type part of the word, in which case even if we make anime->retag it wouldn't fix the problem.
@Washu If you think Java is bad, you should read the code I have to deal with. It's mostly machine generated uncommented fortran code full of GOTOs and useless variable names.
Everything I do is high performance computing, so I usually use fortran. But I've been known to use C, C++, Lisp, Haskell, Python, Perl, and when I'm feeling masochistic COBOL (and some other lesser-known ones)
@Eric While goto is a pain, fortran is pretty great for what I do most of the time. Almost every supercomputer is able to compile and run fortran code, and it's usually quite fast.
When it stops being great, I stop using it.

@Eric I can't stand COBOL, but I've used it when I wanted to send code to someone I really didn't like.
This is slightly unrelated, but I've always thought it would be sort of funny if you took an existing language, say on an alphabet A with n elements, and constructed a function A -> S_n, the symmetric group on n letters, then used the product of all the elements proceeding as a cipher to encode the next character. It's not too much harder to compile, but the resulting code is completely unreadable.
@Eric While it doesn't change the minimum length of any particular program, I'd imagine it would lead to some pretty spectacular quines if you chose the permutations well. That's probably the only reason anyone would have any real interest in such a language.
