12:14 AM
Kiba and Izaya from Durarara both have hoods. Maybe some other characters too.

@LoganM I also realized that Mr. Breasts-are-really-tasty has one, too.

It seems like Miyako and Wanko from Majikoi both have hoodies, but it's hard to tell because they never put the hoods up.
Actually, now that I think about it, Kyou's casual wear in Clannad is a hoodie.

12:30 AM
I knew there were lots of hoodies! I just couldn't remember them.
This is why I have you guys. :D

12:41 AM
I've got some more examples if you want them, but a lot of them are obscure.

I think I'm good, thanks though. I just like drawing characters with hoodies, for some reason. But I've got lots of resources now, so thanks. :D

3 hours later…
3:39 AM
The first downvote is always the hardest. :(

@Eric What are you downvoting?

@LoganM Oh, no, I received my first downvoted question on SO. I asked it like 6 months ago.

@Eric Ah. I don't think I've been downvoted on any sites other than meta.

Oh, yeah, I was downvoted on meta SO as well. I didn't really count that, though.

Actually I got a downvote on ELU but I think everybody gets downvoted there.

3:44 AM
Both my questions are SO are full of downvotes...

lol

trolls will troll...

@LoganM Standard procedure.
That doesn't count! It's upvoted like 60 times. xD

@Eric But they still got a ton of downvotes... :(

Enough to go below 0? :P

3:45 AM
I seriously think I could go on every day and just downvote the top 40 most recent questions, and that would be an acceptable use of the site.

@Eric Not quite...
:)

@Mysticial Ha! I win!
@LoganM Probably. There's probably a special ELU-only badge for it.

@Eric But I still got more downvotes than you. :)

Pfft. Every balanced downvote is a +3 overall.

@Eric Less than that because of the repcap. :)

3:47 AM
... lol
You sure know how to relate to the little people.

I was repcapped on both days that I asked those questions.

... <_<

And annoyingly, the late upvotes I get on them tend to be on days that I repap. lol

Ha.
I laugh!
It helps me feel superior.

If it makes you feel any better, having a highly voted question often has nothing to do with the quality of the answers you get.

3:52 AM
@LoganM Indeed. Don't worry, this doesn't affect me personally. I do find the trolls amusing, though.
@Mysticial Is there a way to see if a question was previously on the Large Hadron Multicollider?

For instance, I'd gladly take a dozen downvotes on this question if someone would just provide me with an answer:

Q: What changes were made to Dvořák's Cello Concerto by Wihan?

Logan MaingiDvořák's Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104, B. 191, is a standard part of the modern cello repertoire, probably even the most popular concerto on the instrument. For the most part the version played today is the same as the original. However, Hanuš Wihan, for whom the concerto was originally wri...

@LoganM Bounty. A dozen downvotes is only -24, but for -50 you might get a decent answer.

@Eric nope. But you can probably get a good guess at it by looking at the early vote history of the question.

@Mysticial Mind taking a look at one for me, and seeing if you can determine? If not, it's fine. It's just been a curiosity of mine.

@Eric The sad part is that it's not likely to fix anything. The answer is very hard to Google for. I've already tried. And given that Music.SE has very few classical musicians, it's likely that most of them have already seen the question. It's currently #2 highest voted unanswered question.

3:55 AM
@Eric sure linky?

Q: Can we use regular expressions to check if there are an odd number of each type of character?

EricThe problem I'm trying to create a regex in which we can check if all letters present in some reference set are present in some other string, but only in odd numbers (1, 3, 5, ...). Here is a (very) crude image of the DFA representing the problem: My (broken) solution I started using a fini...

It's basically a ghost town now, but it was hot when I asked it.
@LoganM That's unfortunate. Is it mostly guitarists, or what?

I recognize that question.
And if it's not in one of my tags. So I probably saw it through the multicollider at some point. lol

Woo! That's cool.

I wouldn't have been very high though.

Yeah, I figured. Only +14. I was amazed at the response, I almost thought it was too localized.

3:59 AM
You also got a good chunk of those upvotes in the first hour or so. So yeah, it probably made the multicollider. But never got high and dropped off shortly after.

@Eric I think so, looking at the recent tags. Piano has a pretty good slice, though not as big as guitar, but a lot of it is beginner stuff. Violin is about 20% the size of guitar, and cello is small enough not to register on the site. I'm strongly suspecting there are no professional cellists on the site based on the questions that are present.

@LoganM That's really sad. Some of the best music, tbh.
@Mysticial Sweet. That made my day. :D

@Eric Actually I've seen this question too. But isn't it trivial in theory? I can build a DFA to do it easily, and there's an easy algorithm to get a Regular Expression from any DFA. Granted that's not going to be the most efficient way, but the question doesn't mention efficiency at all.

@LoganM More or less, the DFA is just really complex. Converting that to a regex proved to be incredibly difficult.

(I haven't read the answers so I might be totally wrong since the last time I did any theoretical CS was in high school)

4:03 AM
Granted, the answers there use lookaheads/lookbehinds. But that's not available in the language of automata.
A friend actually made the true DFA version for me. I never got around to posting it as an answer.

@Eric That's why you make a computer do it for you once you have the DFA.

haha
Cheap way!

IMO that's the whole point of having computers, so that you don't have to do peasant-level calculations all the time.

@LoganM Sometimes that's the fun part, though.
I wouldn't do floating point calculations by hand if I didn't like the experience.

BTW what does that question have to do with Python?

4:15 AM
Shhh. I needed a reason to put it on SO and not on CS.
Python was the language I used to test the regexes. So I was restricted by Python's regex libs.
But that's all.

lol

lol I was going to say that this isn't even a programming question. But SO seems to allow all sorts of random computer stuff as long as no one says it belongs somewhere else, so w/e

@LoganM to some extent yes

Is CS on topic on SO? There was nothing about it in the FAQ (which honestly is really pretty bad overall)

@LoganM It kinda is. It's just "more on-topic" on CS.

4:22 AM
@LoganM yes it is. But if it's too advanced then it might be moved to cs.SE.

There's lots of legacy questions now, but most are being asked on CS now.

I see. This is a bit tangential, but what's the difference between CS.SE and TCS.SE? Supposedly TCS is supposed to be research-level stuff, but I find I actually understand the stuff there better than what's at CS.

They actually have a nice definition of what's allowed on TCS vs CS.
> Although there is no black-and-white distinction between research-level questions and non-research-level questions, questions are considered to be "research-level" roughly when they can be discussed between two professors or between two graduate students working on Ph.D.'s, but not usually between a professor and a typical undergraduate student.
I'm surprised you can understand it since you're not studying in a CS field. But that's what it's for; CS.SE is mostly able to be easily applied to a practical situation.
And I've gotta head off. The Nerd Alliance shall meet again tomorrow. Until then, QaQ yIQong.

night

@Eric I think it's because I've studied a lot of discrete math. CS tends to have a lot of stuff about specific architectures, compilers, etc, which I don't know the first thing about. TCS tends to be a lot more math-heavy. It's true that I still don't know the terms they use, but I can look them up, and I can usually understand it once I know all the relevant definitions.
@Eric night

4:34 AM
Then I think I'm more on the "CS" side where there's less math.

7 hours later…
11:13 AM
Dunno if the date he gave was accurate, but...
Happy birthday @JNat!!
6

12:09 PM
@MadaraUchiha Thank you XD
btw @MadaraUchiha, where did you get the date from?

12:32 PM
@JNat Got a notification on G+

@MadaraUchiha ah ok

1:36 PM
@JNat Madara-sama haxed it with his almighty Sharingan.

2:18 PM
@JNat HAPPY BDAY!!!!

2:52 PM

o.O
happy birthday @JNat :)
anyone here?

@iKlsR maybe :)

Nope. I'm dead.

heh. :3
I asked a question but it seems kinda mild.. is this acceptable for a question?
0
Q: What does the 'belt' Orochimaru and the Sound Four wear signify?

iKlsRThe Sound Four wear a type of belt or wrap around their waists, Orochimaru, their master also wore one, being some of the few ninja i have seen wearing one, does it have a formal name, what does it signify and does it relate or exist in real world fighting.. ? it would almost feel sumoish ...

Just one of those simple things that i wonder about

Okay. I edited that response way too many times. Let's try again.
The question looks fine.
xD

3:03 PM
heh
i will find a better pic.
thanks

@iKlsR No, it's fine. I misunderstood.
I thought you meant something else by belts, but you meant the purple things, right?

oh
yeah

Yeah, you're fine then.

its not really a belt but i dunno whut it is. :)
ah

@Eric so... what are you doing?
I'm bored at my work and i want to chat a bit xD

3:09 PM
@Washu Watching Katekyo Hitman Reborn and doing laundry. lol

O.o
at school in an empty classroom and on irc
hmm.. what do you guys think the closest real world thing is to a sensu bean?

@Eric i haven't watched Katekyo Hitman Reborn ever...

@Washu I'm only a bit in.. it's very silly. xD

Haha
Well right now i'm at work maybe in the night i will finish Get Backers anime
and start with the manga
:O new episodes of The Breaker and Kenichi are out :D
@Eric do you check The Breaker New Waves or Kenichi?

@Washu Nope. :P

3:19 PM
You should!!!

Maaaaaaaaaaybe.

@Washu You might enjoy Psycho Pass

@Krazer noted
@Krazer hey is @JNat BDAY :D

YAY HAPPY BDAY

wow
thanks to everyone XD
thanks for the cake @Eric :P

3:30 PM
@JNat :D

@JNat and you are turning 15 or 16 :P?

@Washu no, I'm older than @Krazer
in case you don't know, he's 93
XD

Liar.
He's 92.

@Eric either way, I'm older than him

@JNat lol
If I wasn't concerned about employers seeing my profile, I'd put my real age of 400. :P

3:34 PM
@Eric lol that's quite a while

@Eric for me it dosn't work....

@JNat Yup, Father created me first.
@Washu What doesn't?

@Eric that's right, had forgot about that

@Eric Putting my real age... I'm 21 but when people see me they think I'm 26 or 30 D:

@Washu lol... I don't use a real pic of myself. People still tell me I look 17.

3:36 PM
Looking older doesn't help with the ladies...
I miss my waifu

@Krazer XD awesome
well, I'm off. bbl
c'yall

@Krazer lol
Thanks i needed to laugh heh
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
I hate when manga leave me waiting for the next release so baaaaaaaaadly
Urgh!!!
@Eric do you work or only study?

@Washu Just study.

@Eric Can we help?

3:51 PM
@Krazer Not at the moment. :P No schoolwork pending. Thanks, though.

@Eric that is a great page
codemanteau

Gah! It's so embarrassing right now, lol. I'm still working on it.
But thanks. xD

@Eric ?

Washu is looking at my (unfinished) website.

I'v been too lazy to migrate mine from my custom haxed wordpress template

4:05 PM
I made my own CMS, I'm that stubborn. lol

4:21 PM
@Krazer How well do you know katakana?

@Eric it doesn't look unifinished

@Washu Trust me, it is, lol. It doesn't even have a homepage or link to my apps.

@Eric Isn't katakana something that you either know or you don't? I don't see how someone could know it impartially.

@Eric pretty decently

@Eric Dude... you are studying and have the same age as me and you have so much stuff...
For me you are great
@LoganM hey, how are you?
@LoganM tell me that you were recovering the sleep of the past days.....

4:25 PM
@LoganM I have a friend who knows it "incompletely"... but he only started 3 days ago :)

@Washu I'm okay, though grading is terrible as always.

@Krazer In the last picture here, does it say "モマ"? I can't tell for sure on the second symbol.
@Washu lol... If you say so. ;)

@Eric モア

@LoganM You could know half the symbols.

@Eric yup モア

4:26 PM
Thanks @ both. :D

How do you write that with your keyboard?.......

@Washu What OS?

I don't. I copy it from a table, lol.

@LoganM Hm.. hope you try to sleep a bit ;)
@jkerian Win 7

@Eric モア

4:27 PM
I want Linux but i won't change until Doto2 is available for it

@Washu It's similar to this: superuser.com/questions/470524/…
I need to get around to adding a Win7 version.

@Washu you need the language support installed first
it's one of the optional updates under windows update

Problem is that my Windows is not a registered version

:O

Oh... that's right... it's just under "Optional Updates" now in windows update
MUCH easier

4:29 PM
You know Peru and the fake copies....

@Washu buy it online from msft

I'm actually running a cracked version at home... but I did purchase a full copy

Expensive D:
Yesterday i bought The Binding of Isaac and is enough for this month

(something got confused during install... the purchased version regularly refused to boot)
BF3 is really the only reason I windows at home, though.

In my case is only Doto2
Because TF2 is for linux already

4:33 PM
It actually runs quite a bit better for me in Linux... no more annoying CTD after ~2 hrs

FWIW, if you change the Source Language on Google Translate to Japanese and type in romaji, it will change it for you.
It's been reliable for me so far.

There's also this: ajaxime.chasen.org (buggy on chrome, though)

I used to use Windows just to play Touhou, but the newest versions of Wine can handle Touhou pretty well. Now I only use it because transferring all my files to my Linux partition is too much work.

why transfer?

I love Touhou

4:36 PM
@jkerian How else would I use the files on Windows?

Just mount the partition from linux

@jkerian That's what I do already most of the time.
Also my other computer has tons of stuff that's Windows-exclusive installed, so I've gotten used to running Windows as my default OS rather than Linux.

I do have another windows box that runs... well... Perfect Dark >_>

@Washu Which game is your favorite?

@LoganM You mean games in general or which touhou?

4:47 PM
@Krazer I see you decided to answer that question after all.
@Washu Touhou

@LoganM I wanted to find the kuroko face but I can't seem to find it anywhere

@LoganM 11

@Krazer Railgun Kuroko or Basketball Kuroko (or some other Kuroko)?

@LoganM railgun
it was part of the straps promotions Dengeki Dai-oh give out around the end of the year

@Washu 11 is one of my favorites too, though I wish Utsuho was less of a pushover compared to the other bosses.
@Krazer The only one I know of is this one: myfigurecollection.net/item/126316

5:09 PM
I think it one of those cheap rubber ones

@LoganM Yeah....
@LoganM and do you play Dota2?

I really liked these straps though:

@Washu Nope. The only games I play usually are touhou, im@s, and eroge.

@LoganM and Ragnarok?

5:18 PM
@Krazer Nope. RTS isn't really my kind of thing.

@LoganM but Ragnarok Online is so fun :D

@Washu Honestly I don't even know what that is. If you tell me Ragnarok, the first game that pops into my head is fortissimo//Akkord:Bsusvier.
@Washu Anything online I can't play. I don't have internet at home, and I waste enough time at work on things other than work as it is.

@LoganM Good! That's what work is for! :D
This cannot be unseen.

@LoganM but internet is fun :(

1 hour later…
6:40 PM
@Washu only if you have ppl to play with
otherwise you are ronery

@Krazer And remember, being ronery makes you ornery.

Well I like The Binding of Isaac

6:57 PM
@Washu did you get the dlc?

@Krazer Eh?
@Krazer what do you mean by dlc?

Downloadable Content package.

Well i bought it from Indie Steam Sale...
Yesterday
and thinking about getting Duke Nukem 3D

@Washu balls of steel

xD
@Krazer Psycho Pass reminds me of Minority Report

7:18 PM
nothing wrong with that

@Krazer do you think it would be a bad idea to post this on Christianity SE explosm.net/comics/3112?

@Washu would be a bit tasteless, depending on how much of a sense of humor certain users have
though it would be ironic at the same time
I expect the reaction to be akin to this news article: huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/21/…

@Washu It would be about as bad of an idea as posting this here: quora.com/Love/…

Lol
Should i buy Duke Nukem?

7:38 PM
@Washu How much is it?

8.99$

Q: I am looking for animated tv show

sunnyIn that animated show or movie peoples turned into some kind of monster like robots its 90's tv shown or movie and the most of the show was in the forest i have watched it once and didn't remmeber the name of the tv shown or movie the big problem is that i don't know that if that was a tv show or...

@PlanetExpressDelivery Don't bring us questions that don't even use proper grammar!

@LoganM Shouting at computers and robots doesn't help. I'd be a way better programmer if it did.

@PlanetExpressDelivery not enough information....

7:45 PM
@Washu That's not really enough to buy anything worthwhile, but I'd still save it up to buy another figure or wall scroll of your waifu if I were you.

@Washu Planet Express Delivery is a bot. :P
I don't think that's even an anime question anyway. Anim*ated*, maybe.

@Eric Ohh is a bot

I find it funny that we get these questions almost immediately, but the stuff on Meta takes upwards of 20 minutes to get here.

@LoganM hey Keen of Scifi said we can make the add for KLU anytime and post it.

Hell Butterfly is real slow. I always use Planet Express Delivery for all my inter-SE needs.

7:48 PM
on the topic i mean
Is it ok if i ask a friend to make a banner?

@Washu Go ahead then. I was pretty sure they wouldn't object either way, though we're unlikely to get enough upvotes for the ad to display.
I lack the motivation to make the add myself, but if you make it I'm willing to post it.
@Washu sure
@Eric I still want to see how fast Sebastian Michaelis is, but no one is properly using the retag tag.

Not enough users unfamiliar with the site, it seems.

@Eric It's not really intuitive that "you have to have a tag" and you need a lot of rep to make tags but that there's a tag for when you can't make tags so that someone else will make it for you. It'd be much better if it were built in to the SE software that new users could suggest tags for approval or something of that nature.
Actually they mentioned that on one of the podcasts also a couple months back. It seems like they're intending to make some changes regarding this, but I don't know exactly what.

@LoganM It's supposed to come up on synonyms, though. So when someone tries , it goes to . I do hope they'll make some software feature to cover it, though.

@Eric By that point, I think the person is likely to have either given up and chosen some random tag or just left.

7:59 PM
Really? That'd be unfortunate.

Even if you type "anime" into the tags, is only the 5th option, and most people aren't going to read all of them.

I thought we had anime synonymed to retag.
Or is it blacklisted?

@Eric They mentioned it on the podcast, that scifi and gaming and a lot of other non-programming sites lose a lot of potential users who try to ask a question, and can't figure out the tagging system. I'd assume we're in the same boat.
@Eric Blacklist shouldn't be an issue. It only comes up if someone tries to create , but they can't even create tags yet.
But what we have is ->

should also be a synonym.
Same with .
Because doesn't come up when I type , which was pretty much the whole point.

Those are blacklisted. It also wouldn't make a bit of difference. When you search for tags, they're ordered in terms of what has the most questions, not what is the best match.

8:03 PM
It should match the whole word, though.

@Eric Really? It comes up for me fine.

I mean, first. It's fifth, as you said.

@Eric It wouldn't come up first even if it was . There's no way to make it come up first.

That's dumb.
If you type in an exact synonym, it should be the first pick.

Actually now that you mention it, it seems that exact matches do come up before other things.
Though I had to struggle to actually find a case of this.

8:11 PM
Ah, that's good. I was going to check, but I didn't know of an exact match that was less popular than a partial match.
@LoganM Yeah, exactly. What did you use?

@Eric On math, has 6 questions, while -> has 1334

Very nice, lol.
Perhaps we should create those two tags as synonyms, then. I doubt it will make much difference, but I don't see a downside.

I still don't think it's a good idea to do -> though. Mostly because it would mess me up when I want to ask questions.

Couldn't you just type "anim"?
Or if we want to encourage exercise, "anime-".

@Eric I could just type "an" if I was thinking about it, but I've typed "anime" enough times that it's muscle memory now. It's way easier for me to type the whole word than just a couple of letters.

8:20 PM
@LoganM Probably true. It depends whether we want to use tags for our own benefit or new users', though. We don't want people to not ask a question because there isn't a tag.

The other difficulty is that I don't want people thinking that is actually a synonym for . It isn't. You aren't allowed to not bother with tagging properly because your question is about anime.

You mean, you don't want it to become a habit for new users?

@Eric I'm skeptical whether the tag will solve this problem. It hasn't worked so far. Even if using was better, I doubt that there are more than a couple of users who would ever be affected by using instead of .
@Eric Yes, that's part of it. Another part is that people may use without even thinking about it, and that'll just make more work.

@LoganM Fair. I just don't want people to not use because of the lack of not knowing about synonyms.

Sorry needed to say that..
@LoganM But Java is fun

8:24 PM
@Washu Hi to you too. xD

I don't see a problem of keeping it as it is, for now. If it becomes a problem, we should address it as such when the time comes.

@Eric you finished laundry?

@Washu Of course.
@Krazer How will we know when it's a problem, though?

Well i'm about to kill myself

@Washu I'd advise against that.

8:26 PM
@Eric against java?

@Washu Against suicide.

@Eric when the retag question are ignoring the tag

@Eric Honestly, most people who try to make a tag the first time and fail are already going to leave without trying another thing. There are other forums offering similar services to us with better user experience. If they decide to try it's more likely that they'll just type part of the word, in which case even if we make -> it wouldn't fix the problem.

@Eric ohh wel... i don't think i would be the first person trying to commit suicide cause of Java

@LoganM Yeah. I think we can all agree the current tag implementation is poor for new users. Tags are still a worrisome thing for me after 9 months.

8:28 PM
Ugh i miss my waifu

@Washu If you think Java is bad, you should read the code I have to deal with. It's mostly machine generated uncommented fortran code full of GOTOs and useless variable names.

@LoganM what language do you use?

@Washu Whatever I want

Fortran is awful.
goto is awful.
.... IMO, of course. :P

@LoganM haven't tried goto

8:33 PM
Everything I do is high performance computing, so I usually use fortran. But I've been known to use C, C++, Lisp, Haskell, Python, Perl, and when I'm feeling masochistic COBOL (and some other lesser-known ones)

@Washu Please don't. Programmers hate dealing with gotos, especially other people's.
@LoganM I love COBOL.

@LoganM Physics is hard
Have any of you watched Washu?
I mean Tenchi Muyo

@Eric While goto is a pain, fortran is pretty great for what I do most of the time. Almost every supercomputer is able to compile and run fortran code, and it's usually quite fast.
When it stops being great, I stop using it.
@Washu Yes, I have.
@Eric I can't stand COBOL, but I've used it when I wanted to send code to someone I really didn't like.

@LoganM How nice of you. lol
I used to feel the pain. Until I realized it's fun to use for silly things.

@LoganM you might enjoy HQ9+

8:48 PM
9

@Eric 99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer. Take one down, pass it around, 98 bottles of beer on the wall.

:D

This is slightly unrelated, but I've always thought it would be sort of funny if you took an existing language, say on an alphabet A with n elements, and constructed a function A -> S_n, the symmetric group on n letters, then used the product of all the elements proceeding as a cipher to encode the next character. It's not too much harder to compile, but the resulting code is completely unreadable.

9:07 PM
@LoganM That's cruel! lol

@Eric While it doesn't change the minimum length of any particular program, I'd imagine it would lead to some pretty spectacular quines if you chose the permutations well. That's probably the only reason anyone would have any real interest in such a language.

@LoganM Oh, yes, indeed. The quines would get complex though, wouldn't they?
Actually, I guess they'd be simpler.

@Eric depends on the language imo

Even based on Logan's modification?

some might be better suited to process it

Quines would certainly change. Some would be shorter and some longer. It might be very hard to find the shorter ones though.

Even the empty file would change if the EOF was considered a token, lol.
