@Makyen Sorry, you were not pingable in the MSE Tavern, and I preferred to have the discussion in chat rather than in comments. Can we move there?

@gparyani A) That's inaccurate. Any user is pingable in any room in which there's a message they created. You just have to reply to a message they posted. Finding one which I wrote in the Tavern on the Meta is trivial, given that a large portion of the messages by me on chat.MSE are in the Tavern. B) you have other options. Chat has a specific feature for what you're wanting, which is "start a new room with this user".

@Makyen I'm aware. I just felt it'd be easier to ping you here rather than having to find your chat profile there, find your old message, and copy the ID. I also didn't want to create a new room there because I didn't want to clutter the room list and because the mods there have been strict with new room creation because some others have abused room creation there. Admittedly I should have made it clear that I wanted to speak to you there, and I apologize for that.

In hindsight, I should have just invited you to the room.

That said, can we please discuss there now?

@gparyani Finding my profile is trivial. There's a users page, which has a "filter users" feature. My username is, intentionally, unique, so it's easy to find. My recent messages page has messages in the Tavern on the first page, so such a message is easily accessible.

As to room creation being an issue on chat.MSE, I don't have information on that. However, I consider it unlikely that the mods' intent was to prevent people from using the creation of rooms for the purpose for which the ability to create rooms exists. Even if they are doing that, there's both chat.SE and chat.SO available where the same thing would be possible.

You're correct, inviting me to an existing room where such a conversation would be on-topic would also be a reasonable course of action. I should have included that in my list above.

@gparyani Just to be clear, I did enter the Tavern, but left after seeing that the most recent messages were from SmokeDetector and that they were a couple of hours old. Basically, there didn't seem to be anything there for me to do or respond to.
