And it might be a partial install of TL.

@PauloCereda but where the .t3 extension comes from is quite mysterious. Do you have fonts with .t3 in your pdftex.map? (I don't)

@PauloCereda I can reproduce the problem. There is a mpfonts.map in texlive, and if I load it I get similar errors as the one reported:

@samcarter the map should only be used one the command line with dvips dvips -D 10000 -u +mpfonts.map myfile.dvi. How does one remove a map permanantly from updmap on fedora? updmap-sys --disable MAP or sudo updmap-sys --disable MAP?

I have a couple of PDFs which I want to crop and place together side by side. In the past I think I used the GIMP, but I was wondering if I could use TeX directly instead.

The GIMP does rasterization, so it tends to blow the images up.

At least, I think it's rasterization.

@FaheemMitha you can trim images, but this only adds a clipping path so the material outside is still included.
