@Luke he looks like DarthDroid :P

2:12 AM
@TomWijsman: Clients change, and it gets difficult to keep up. To illustrate, here's my timeline: I was introduced to Google Talk, but for desktop use, I switched to Pidgin (which Ubuntu decided to replace with Empathy), but Pidgin isn't for Mac, so I used Adium for a while, and then I thought Meebo was cool, but it was discontinued, so now I'm on imo.im. Oh, and I still use Facebook Chat. And Google Voice. — Deltik 3 hours ago

@TomWijsman :\
FB sucks :)
Hey dude have you the Product.ini of win 8?

I wonder what use it has that he still could access his Google Talk logs.

@HackToHell suprabhat :P

@TomWijsman I've never seen that kind of encrypted message :)

This is how I type smileys in StarCraft II, just too used to hitting three keys next to each other.

@TomWijsman I never used that :P

Mostly when the lag window pops up.

@TomWijsman Oo

A: Scientific calculator app/site that saves calculations for Win 7?

avirkThe 5-free calculator is the good article. SFR Calc SFR Calculator has an MS Office-like interface. It also gives you a choice of three skins. Unlike other free calculators, its use is similar to the kind we do on paper. You can use it like a text editor and add comments or any other anno...

just answered that :P
@TomWijsman have you ever made a dual boot USB, I mean that you can pick an OS to boot form the one USB.

2:55 AM
Nope.
Or well, Hiren's Boot CD, if that counts... Haha. :D

Bob
@avirk There's a few tools out there that do this quite easily

2 hours later…
5:08 AM
@Bob I've some but I never tried it out. BTW which toll you prefer for this?
Like Sardu?

Bob
@avirk YUMI

@Bob Aha I've that too....
size in KB :)

Bob
I had a couple of Linux LiveCDs, a copy of FreeDOS and HBCD on a flash drive at one point. That was quite useful.

@Bob Do I need to make partition on USB for this/
@Bob have you the Win 8 ISO?

5:24 AM
anyone here know about the VS memory profiler?

@soandos I don't know but you can share the problem or whatever else :P

Basically, it slows my program to a crawl so that it never gets past the initial IO

@soandos Did you Googled for this?

@avirk not yet

@soandos I'll do that first :D

5:30 AM
@avirk don't see anything

@soandos me too there are junk results for this :(
I don't think we'll get the results through that.

shrug
this is why I asked here :)

@soandos are you sure that VS memory profiler is the cause of slowing down the program

Quite
it never leaves the IO stage
and it takes 22 MB/s of IO itself (the profilier, not my program)

@soandos would be a worth to ask a question may be someone else know the answer :)
@soandos Oo
@soandos do you have Win 8

5:38 AM
@avirk yes, but this also occurs on win 7

@soandos Hmmmmm then could be a bug

doubtful
more likly, there is a checkbox I am not hitting

@soandos what kind of checkbox :D

no idea

It seems to me fight in the dark with closed EYES :P
@soandos you said you have Win 8 if its 32bit can you give me the Product.ini file

5:43 AM
64

whatever send me that I will see it and edit it regarding the 32 bit by comparing it Win 7
I'm gonna to install the new MS product to check it out what they have did not :)

how will this help?

@soandos I will compare it with Win 7 product.ini and I'm sure I'll get the difference if not then its my Bad ;)
Actually from which friend I have took the ISO he has changed the product.ini file of Win8 with Win 7 :(

I don't see the file

@soandos it should be in ISO.

5:49 AM
I don't have that anymore

@soandos my bad

Q: WinXP downloading files makes filenames disappear

Nicholas Manuel PradoComputer is not freezing. However, when I download through a browser, windows begins a quick spiral of not showing the file extensions, then no file names, and finally nothing besides icons. Usually, I restart after this (as I can't see what I'm doing). However, downloading with a nn or downloadi...

@soandos can you insert those pics in the Question from the links. Please edit it for me.

I don't see the URLs there

@soandos they are in question :P

yeah, but they are not .jpg or something

he uploads them on flicker and it is traking too much time on my slow bandwidth to open today :(
@soandos try out the share button and copy the link form flicker and then try to upload them form web?

5:54 AM
@avirk Im a little busy

@soandos :P

A warning to all: Windows 8 does not have a warning when you run out of space on the primary partition

1 hour later…
7:38 AM
hmm
superuser.com/questions/466392/… I'm a little torn on this. its a precise dupe, but the new question is slightly more likely to be answered than the old one .

Bob
8:10 AM
@avirk YUMI will make a standard FAT32 partition on there if you want. All bootable files are dumped on the one partition.

1 hour later…
Bob
9:35 AM
@JourneymanGeek Could it be the same user?

Bob
They might be different. Their Gravatars are different. But the names just seem... suspiciously close...

I missed that ;p

1 hour later…
11:06 AM
:/ :(
and more information? Serial upvoting reversed

@WilliamHilsum Seems someone was a little too eager upvoting a couple of your posts

So weird problem with 7 today
After my PC woke up from hibernation, the keyboard does not work
It works well in Ubuntu, it simply does not work in 7
I rebooted a million times, got in using onscreen keyboard and could not find my keyboard in Device Manager WTF is happening ?
@TomWijsman ^^

@HackToHell Years ago, I remember a virus that deleted/disabled the USB standard drivers, including keyboard... could be something like that
Try clicking the icon in the top right hand corner - scan for plug and play devices
and see if it helps
@slhck damn, oh well!

@WilliamHilsum I tried that, get an unrecognized device that does not go away even after I unplug the keyboard and scan again

@HackToHell go to device id and take a look at the strings

11:19 AM
SO I reckon the Unrecognized device might have nothing to do with it
@WilliamHilsum No sign of keyboard there

can I have your email address quickly, I'll send you a file... and I need to go out in a second - my grandad's birthday party... so can't stay long
@HackToHell let me know when you have it

ok
I have it

it is a .zip file with 3 files inside, if using windows 7 x64 bit (if not, sorry, can't help quick), make sure you have these three files in c:\windows\system32\drivers - they are the core keyboard drivers
looks like the attachment was blocked

okay, will try it out, Thanks

ahh, it wasn't
my relay...
ok, I need to go, let me know if it helps

11:21 AM
ok sure
Oh shoot it's x64 !
Mine's 32-bit <_<

damn
I don't have a 32 bit machine here to get the files from
sorry

Bob
What are the files called?

anyway, I need to go, I can install one a bit later and I hope I can help you then

@WilliamHilsum I will find it, now that I know the file names
@Bob one minute please

Bob
I've got a spare Windows 7 x86 system here :P

11:24 AM
@Bob hellloo

Bob
@HackToHell yep, just grabbing my flash drive :P
it doesn't have internet access

lol ok sorry

Thanks

Bob
no prob

11:36 AM
Soup?
Who played Red Alert 2?
Remember the Weather Control Device?

Yay it works thanks @Bob and @WilliamHilsum

Bob
@Boris_yo oh hi there! :P

11:54 AM
@WilliamHilsum: same thing happened to me. Just someone getting overenthusastic i guess ;p

hmm hi
i need some generous folk
who can download kies and put it in my dropbox

lol
link?
has the massive HTC dropbox upgrade ;p
wait. kies? you haz new phone?

@jokerdino There are not many problems you can solve that kies is the answer to
Problem with your phone? Install kies. Now you have two problems.

uhm
what the hell is kies used for then?

12:08 PM
what did you THINK it was used for?
Its used to manage samsung phones

my stupid dumb galaxy y has gingerbread

It is the software that Samsung intends you to use with your phone, but it is appalling

galaxy y?

There are usually better alternatives

i dont know what i drank that made me buy galaxy y

12:09 PM
what's the galaxy y?

@JourneymanGeek the one that sucks real bad

o0
how much?

180

dude.
.. 3 inch touch screen?

i am gonna pass it to my sis and buy a better one later xD

12:10 PM
ya, that looks craptastic ;p

@JourneymanGeek yeah
@JourneymanGeek :P

see if you can root it ;p

@jokerdino Airdroid is good for pushing content, and Odin for flashing

so, no firmware upgrades? :(

^ that

12:11 PM
@Paul what's that supposed to mean?

unless there's a third party one

i have been using non smart phones for all this while

@jokerdino: airdrod lets you manage your phone through a web browser

@jokerdino As alternatives to kies

max 3 hours of using smartphone

12:11 PM
its fishducking awesome

@JourneymanGeek @paul oh

actually

ok anyway, how do i check if there are any goddarn upgrades to this crap phone?

@jokerdino: first thing you need to install is angry birds
;p

lol

12:13 PM
@JourneymanGeek uhm i don't want to waste storage space :P

(to borrow a catchphrase)

it's like i am already very low on space

@jokerdino: but but
THATS THE WHOLE POINT OF OWNING A SMARTPHONE

@JourneymanGeek lolz

(no addon memory?)

12:13 PM
i never really played angry birds
@JourneymanGeek i think i have a 2gb card

lol
I stole one of my bro's 16 gig cards

i dont want to cry a river so i am not gonna tell anyone my phone sucks
this is a secret among us

@jokerdino If you are new to the whole Samsung firmware thing, then if you can get kies working, it is probably the easiest way. If you explore flashing with odin (this is the tool Samsung uses internally) then XDA is your friend: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800

at least i got a headphone i was looking for.

12:16 PM
@Paul whoa.
i am a noob @_@
i cant download kies because it is bigger than 50 MB

lol
@jokerdino: link

my network blocks > 50 mb downloads

I can break it up for you and shove it somewhere

@jokerdino Well there is lots of fun ahead then. Half of the fun of an android phone is monkeying with the firmware

@JourneymanGeek thanks
@Paul hm
i guess the support people aren't from India.

12:17 PM
lol

at least i can talk to samsung support if any. hopefully

Please excuse my slight rant of a question

Q: How can I make sure applications uninstall properly?

njallamWhen uninstalling software in Windows, uninstallers do a shockingly bad job at it. Leaving behind registry keys, scheduled tasks and AppData files. You're essentially only uninstalling the bit of the application you can see, all the other parts of it fail to be properly garbage collected. What...

lol
@jokerdino: what's the maximum size your network is fine with?

@JourneymanGeek 50 MB i think

and is split 7zip fine?

12:22 PM
@jokerdino Samsung website designers couldn't be bothered to use images of the right resolution...

@JourneymanGeek if someone can tell me how to merge it back, i think i wouldn't mind
@njallam wut?

nvm
I can split zips

@jokerdino On the think you posted

@njallam i dont really care
i am panicky

@jokerdino Well I do, picture quality ftw!

12:25 PM
hm let me install 7zip now

@jokerdino: dl.dropbox.com/u/32285937/dino/loc.txt list of files
its a split zip

@JourneymanGeek thanks

10mb should easily slip past your school filters

404?

which one?

12:27 PM
First one

the links.

2nd is fine
3rd is down

fish
still uploading

OK then

oops ;p
@jokerdino: should take about 13 minutes

12:28 PM
@jokerdino 10MB limit!?

lol
@JourneymanGeek haha downloaded 2nd one so far
@njallam 50

@njallam: 50mb, wanted to play it safe

@JourneymanGeek still, a bit strange.

@njallam talk to my network admin

@jokerdino ha, no thanks.
We will be arguing within minutes

12:29 PM
@jokerdino How do larger videos stream ?

no argument. you will be down
@HackToHell they don't?

@jokerdino: yanno, i just realised I should have just wgot that into one of my public servers...
would have been faster

@JourneymanGeek that might have worked.
but i am on windows7 at the moment

forgot ;p
and lazy now!

@JourneymanGeek :P

12:30 PM
Oh, one of my servers is in my local lan

@jokerdino 720p videos > 5 mins are larger than 50 mb

sadly its the one running off a USB drive

@HackToHell i don't know. they probably whitelist
or blacklist all the ISO, EXE etc?

@HackToHell stupid people are stupid.
3
facebook image
i just dont understand the last one. o.O

12:34 PM
nope

lol
needs to go wink at the moon ;)

@JourneymanGeek haha. i am gonna bounce off a red laser.

I will warp there

@jokerdino Friends on IRC started talking about the titles, but it was intended as a joke as they started with "another sad moment in Armstrong history". And well, I did never heard of him being still alive...

@jokerdino: dinner. it should be done in 5 minutes or so

12:37 PM
@JourneymanGeek thanks. cya.

the upload, not dinner ;p
2
so try in 10

@JourneymanGeek yeah sure. :))
@TomWijsman heh but these jokers are typing his full name.
surely they know who is who

So this is arch

@HackToHell :) super light weight

12:46 PM
OK, I removed the rant bit of my question. Let's see if I can get that 2 rep back!
Nope, just lost 2 more.

@HackToHell the main thing that bugged me about arch was it only maintains a single current kernel

Uhm, what does that mean >_<

So if you upgrade and the new kernel doesn't work for any reason, you are in fix mode rather that running the previous kernel

Ah I get it

Other distributions will keep a few going

12:52 PM
still on arch Paul?
@JourneymanGeek i get some weird errors

@Paul: Exactly, on Gentoo I had two kernels for a long while. One to be able to boot of Nvidia 290.10 until they finally fixed a bug in Nvidia 304.75 or so...
Just select both in the world file and a depclean won't prune the sources.

@JourneymanGeek either the format is broken. yadayada
 ~~~Downloads\Kies\Kies_2.3.2.12074_13_13.zip\Kies_2.3.2.12074_13_13.zip: The archive is either in unknown format or damaged
@jokerdino No, no arch left. My mix is now gentoo and debian
@Paul oh yeah. I forgot you switched to Gentoo.
Tom using Gentoo too?
Yeah.
12:57 PM
right.
<_>
Need to get Arch up and running
@jokerdino Actually, gentoo was where I started (after some abortive attempts with Ubuntu and Mandriva) this was quite some time ago and I decided that if I wanted to learn properly, I was going to have to use gentoo, and make it my primary workstation
PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage/"
@Paul i started with ubuntu and haven't really tried others.
Please tell me this is not a veyron
