wasn't the limited edition supposed to be the same color as the pony?
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica I am starting to think that Omega Chalenge 1 is worthless after managing to reach the 16 completions on Ch8

@Derpy It's not very useful past initial completion IIRC. OC2 and 5 are the most important ones IIRC.

11:56 AM
@Derpy The flipping of colours between the equine and primate versions is interesting, but while Twilight is the one of the six/seven I find most conceptually cool, the visual execution seems on the underwhelming side (even discounting the fact that the preview images were overall nicer than the final statues in general so far).

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica Exactly what is "underwhelming" in your opinion?
clothes? coloring?

Trying to find a way to put it into words and pictures.

also... do you realize that the alternative is buying the Hasbro ones?
.........................
do you prefer these ones? :P

@Derpy Well it's not like for me it's a choice between 'buy this statue' and 'buy that statue'. For me it's more a choice between 'admire this image', 'that one', 'both' or 'neither'.

12:14 PM
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica look, on that one, my only complain would be that the book isn't as detailed as initially planned on the promo picture. Probably because painting small details is always hard

Hmm. Doing some checking, apparently some of the things are part of the anthropomorphic redesign in the videos, not unique to the statues.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica ? What are you talking about specifically?
The pony placement is taken 1:1 from the MLP movie poster.

I'm having trouble finding good examples, so here goes:
- Twilight's hairstyle seems to fit fine in the drawing/animation style in the series, but seems to translate badly (in my subjective view) to the style of the designs used here. I would consider it hit-and-miss on real live people and don't have a good way of articulating what makes for a hit or a miss from my PoV.
- The glasses seem like a tacked-on design element, but apparently they are part of the EG canon so my subjective reaction is 'canonically invalid' (I don't remember original Twilight having them under normal circumstances).
On the animation/drawing/statue style: when I look at something like this, I get the impression of fitting just fine into the simplified and whimsical style. When I look at the statue of the equine Twilight, I have an impression of not fitting.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica Emh... how to say this... There are TWO Twilight in EG

I'm just a random creature, which is not great at artistic things in all sorts of ways, commenting on general impressions from seeing various images.
I'm not qualified to make proper canon comparisons, which is why I'm trying to insert all the disclaimers.

12:23 PM
As I said, EG takes place in an alternate universe. Every character there is an alternate version of their pony counterpart EXCEPT Sunset shimmer, which for some reason does not have a counterpart apparently (with many head-cannon explanation for that)
There is an alternate Twilight. And the alt wears glasses

I must've misunderstood the configuration of the alternative universe.
Sorry.

The action figure... for some reason it merges the two character designs in a single one
As for the other clothes...
While originally I though some of them were original creations... apparently none is.
Even Fluttershy one...
is actually a dress she wears for about 30 second in a single short.

this looks pretty opinion-based to me.

Ben
@NautArch It does look a bit broad

@Ben I jsut think we can all come up with things that will fit the bill.

Ben
12:36 PM
@NautArch Yeah.

I'm inclined to leave it be
It's the kind of question where there's multiple possible answers rather than only one possible correct one, but it's not a matter of opinion and answers are differentiated. It makes for a great opportunity for experts to weigh in.

@doppelgreener we're already getting answers in that are all good. Even with the additional criteria (which i'm not sure the answers now cover), it's still just about coming up with ideas.

It is even very slightly fun and not a question about answering how the rules work, which is a positive for the site.

Oh you can X for Y!

Sure, but you're not going to have someone saying "a candlestick" or "three mattresses"

12:38 PM
@Derpy In case I conveyed the meaning ambiguously, I meant individualisation by the characters relative to whatever is considered cookie-cutter options in the reference society, not originality in the form of avoiding repeats of any outfits seen throughout the series.

How do you differentiate the power of defense vs offense?

There's a reason those other answers are valid and good answers
@NautArch The question doesn't ask about offense

ah true

It's a pretty clear cut problem: "How do I defend all these guys?"
Just, see how it goes

I dunno, there's still a lot of defensive options. This just seems much more like a discussion of ideas rather than something concrete

12:39 PM
That's not a problem for us

and also how do you differentiate magical defense vs mundane.
okay, i'll let it be. don't feel like an argument right now.

You're approaching this like a question has to inherently have only one possible correct answer and every other answer is wrong, and the lack of meeting that criteria makes it POB

I just said i'm backing off it. Please let me do that.

You're welcome to back off. I am, however, still going to say we got these kinds of questions all the time in the past and they worked fine.

When someone asks to drop something, I really think we should listen to them.

12:42 PM
You brought this up in a public forum. I am speaking into that public forum.

I"ve requested and i'm now moving this to NAB.

@doppelgreener I moved the entire thing. When a user is uncomfortable and no longer wishing to discuss something, we usually listen to that user. Continuing to poke is not helpful.

Whoa, you scared off all the horsies! ^_^

Whether it's about a question or about something else.
I asked for it to stop, and it didn't. So I moved it. We've done that in the past and I feel like it was right to do now.

12:47 PM
@NautArch Asserting I cannot discuss something you brought up because you personally don't want to discuss it is not okay.

1 message moved from TRPG General Chat

You're welcome to back off. I am, however, still going to say we got these kinds of questions all the time in the past and they worked fine.
Like this

Yes, you continued poking when I requested a ceasefire.

I was discussing topicality of a kind of question in that last comment
I didn't even ping you
And, honestly, I sent this message seconds after yours arrived about wanting to back off
I did not go "oh, NautArch wants to back off, let me keep escalating this." I went "oh, new message. Let me finish sending this. Oh, they want to back off."
I had more to say that was not at you

That is what it felt like, and I why I moved it. And now i'm dragged back in and i'm now backing out.

12:50 PM
When I'm speaking in these rooms I'm rarely speaking just for the person I'm speaking to

@Derpy So about how this works: there's a whole word of primates whose personalities and life events parallel (loosely? closely?) those of the equines, and original-Twilight-we-always-knew travelling to it turns into a primate too, and meets her local counterpart?

So, here, I am saying this just generally
And not for any one person
If someone brings up topicality on the site in the main chat, and doesn't want to keep talking about it
The rest of us may still need space to talk about that topicality, even after the original person leaves the conversation or doesn't want to continue
Yeeting the topic into another room or expecting the whole conversation to stop at that stage basically means only a portion of the discussion gets to happen and only one side really gets to have a say in the primary public chat forum we have on this site, and that's not exactly fair
So I am not really happy about this. I just had to share why.

@doppelgreener I honestly don't understand why you can't let this go. I started the conversation. It wasn't really picked up by anyone in large conversation but you. I said I was backing away (as really the only other person talking about it) and the conversation turned to a point where I didn't feel comfortable.
But you kept going. YOu didn't need to, I was really the only one that was part of the conversation.

I just shared why

So it got to a point where a user (me) stated discomfort and request to hold. I was the only one really participating, so when you kept going, I moved it. I'm sorry you aren't happy, but neither was I.

1:02 PM
@NautArch You convinced multiple other people to vote to close the question as well
And started a dialog in main chat about what kinds of questions are topical or POB I felt I wanted to engage in

BUt just to be clear, if someone is uncomfortable and wanting a conversation stopped, that's not enough to end it anymore?
Because that usually is here.
And now I'm sucked back in again.
I made my call. YOu're a room owner, feel free to move it back if you really feel like it needs to be back.

I'm not trying to make you be here.

The SOP seems to be a move, but sometimes one person wants to bow out of a topic, but others want to discuss it, because the topic already got started.

When one person is uncomfortable with a conversation, yes, that's quite valid to get the conversation to end between those two. When someone's brought up an entire discussion about site topicality that has an effect well beyond their participation, it might be important for people to be able to talk about those things regardless of that person's participation.

A healthy thing to do is to go different ways for a time - some into a room with the topic, the other(s) into rooms without the topic.

1:06 PM
Likewise, you said you were backing out. You even left chat! I took that to mean you were actually going, and wouldn't be significantly impacted by whether we continued or not. That's very different from "please let's stop discussing this in this room, it's making me uncomfortable and I want to be here able to discuss other topical things."
Now, I'm going to leave these rooms be for a while. Ttfn.

1:51 PM
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica I was answering to your message before, when you said "The choice of clothing. Others are more individualised, but Twi's is . . . the non-individualised part is just a standard uniform.". What I meant there is just every design is picked from some actual episode. Probably they tried to use the "main" clothes the characters wear 90% of the time, but chose some better looking ones in some cases.
I mean, I am not surprised that a Japanese company decided to keep Twily dress, that almost seem a traditional school sailor fuku but replaced Fluttershy one.

@Derpy Oh, it's not surprising, but that is part of the reason why my reaction to that was 'underwhelming'/unremarkable.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica look, the first movie had evident issues with executive meddling
"make it about a school dance gala"

@Derpy I didn't mean to put you on the defensive. Sorry.

2:14 PM
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica no, sorry if I gave you that idea, I just meant that the "school" thing was basically forced on the staff.
There is a little chaos ongoing here at the moment, so please forgive me if the replies are quite short and telegraph style.

@Derpy No need to apologise. Life happens to everyone. Besides, it's not like there's some sort of obligation of maintaining active/rapid discussion.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica I was just apologizing in case I gave you the impression of being annoyed or angry. I was just writing quite fast, and listening to other thing in the meantime.
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica It is a little more complicated. First, a disclaimer : I don't know in which order the two related subplots were made, so keep that in mind. I don't know if the movie referenced the comics or the opposite.
Anyway, in the comics... there is a story called "Reflections".
Short version of the story.
There is a mirror that was probably made by Star Swirl many years before the original series timeline. That mirror was once used by him and Celestia to explore alternate worlds.
There is a page in the comic, can't find it now.... but there is a pattern in those world - you notice that every world is distorted reflection of the original Equestria.

2:41 PM
@Derpy Charming image (not sarcasm). Interesting how Spike seems the same.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica Look at the Doctor Who(oves) in there too.

@Derpy Oh, so that's what the 'please wait' cutie mark is about. ^_^

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica It started as a simple coincidence. When the fandom gave him the Doctor Whooves nickname, the show writers decided to play on the reference.
Anyway, the plot of the comic isn't probably that relevant for your original question, so I will just skip it and focus on the mirror.
As I said, the first mirror is mentioned in the comic as a device made by Star Swirl to explore alternate worlds. For some reasons the worlds were altered versions of the original one.
In the image before you can see the "My Little T-Rex" world. Yep, that one is Flutter-rex.
other included steam-punk versions and so on.
The cover of the comic, it is about one of those world where every character basically has a negative. So the mane six in there , evil.
The original mirror was sealed because of an argument Star had with Celestia. A thousand years later it is found again by Twily and the plot of the comic starts there.
But that wasn't the only mirror. A second mirror was made, and that was the one Sunset Shimmer used. That mirror sent Sunset - who was a pony and the original student of Celestia before Twily (if the comic is to be taken as canon, she is also a little older apparently) - to an alternate dimension were every pony had an human counterpart.
That is the world EG is set in.
Now, in the first movie the pony Twilight travels to that world and takes an "human" appearance as a result. Sunset Shimmer is the main antagonist.
Second movie... still pony Twilight called back by Sunset, who was "reformed" at the end of the first movie (notice, if the reforming sound stupid, the reason she was "evil" before is even more stupid. Again, a case of "had you talked before...")
The pony-as-human Twily... she feels out of place for the whole first movie, starts to get used to it in the second one.
in the meantime, she tries thing like kicking a vending machine, hoping an apple will fall down (see: Applejack)
At the end of the second movie, past the end credits, you briefly see a second Twilight in the human world.
That is the human Twilight, which is often called "Science Twily" or "Sci-Twi" because in her first appearance she is wearing a lab coat.
This one wears glasses.
And.... this one replaces the pony Twily as the protagonist of the following EG movies and short episodes.
(the pony version still makes some cameo)

3:09 PM
Did Ali-Twi return home between EG1 and EG2?

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica she did.

@Derpy Replaces in what way? The story refocuses on the natively-primate half-dozen?
Or is it just an unexplained swap of visuals?

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica no, the story then focuses on the human versions, making Sunset the only character that was originally a pony but for some reasons decide to continue to live there.

And for some reason, you never see her counterpart, like she hadn't one.
That is quite a recuring joke, with many fan arts.
^ example.
This doesn't ever happen in the actual series.
Nor the series brothers to explain how a girl that is probably around... 17? 18? manages to live alone without drawing any suspicion.
IF you know who Aelita is (a character from Code Lyoko) then you can also understand this comment I left years ago on a question askin "how can Sunset pay for an home"
Wait a second... Didn't she share a room with Aelita Schaeffer at the "Inn for Past-less Character That Live A Normal Life Despite Lacking Any Background And Money Source"? — BlueSoul May 28 '18 at 15:40

3:21 PM
@Derpy That's not exactly an unheardof age for autonomy. Especially in Equestria-reflections, what with kid adventurers on every corner.
Oooh, she has no job?
Yeah that changes things.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica yes, but they don't mention any part time job for her.
We know that Fluttershy works as a volunteer at a veterinary clinic / homeless animal house (probably unpaid, but she has parents in the pony world so it is plausible that the human version still lives with them)
Rarity is still shown like she has some connection to a dress shop.
AJ? The farm is still there, and you see Big Mac delivering apples.
You see Pinkie working in a coffee bar.
Her... I don't think she ever mentions anything.
There is a single humorist short where she is apparently making an video review for a game (and loses to Fluttershy), so a common joke is that she is a Youtuber.

@Derpy I was thinking the answer would be 'struggling musician'.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica Even if the fake human version on the right in the fan made image has a guitar, she is actually the last one to be dragged into singing in the second movie, and she does that only because she has to.
Yet, by the fourth movie you do see her playing a guitar, so that's an option too.
Or, you know, she just goes back to Equestira every few months, gets a single gem from a cave (If Rarity is to be believe, gems in Equestria caves are as common as mushrooms after rain) and sells it.
Considering that the average gem is as big as an orange....
And Rarity calling those "rubies", "emeralds" ....

3:38 PM
@Derpy There's a huge can of worms associated with that approach.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica If you are thinking about "a girl that keeps coming here every months, selling gems as big as an apple... looks a little suspicious"

Yeah. That would be highly suspicious, unlike the more usual struggling youth options.

well... no one asked a single question when Twilight in the first movie came out of nowhere and tried to enlist for the prize of "Princess of the school yearly dance event"
not even the alternate Celestia, who was the school principal.

Ah OK, it runs on TV logic. ^_^

At the end of the movie the weird student that came out of nowhere is revealed to be a pony magical princess from another world? That's fine too, who cares....
Sunset briefly turning in a demon while she tries to control some weird magic? Normal. I mean, they did put up an angry face for a while, but... that's it.
And yet in the third movie... the antagonist actually threats to speak with the authorities...
> Principal Cinch: Obviously my students have been infected with your magic, but I plan on taking all of this up with the school board!
Principal Celestia: Good. I'm sure they would be very interested in hearing all about the magical students with wings.
Vice Principal Luna: Oh, and the portals to different dimensions.
Dean Cadance: And don't forget to tell them about the talking dog. [giggles]
Puppy Spike: Because that would never ruin your reputation.
