I wish someone makes a question: "Definition of $x^u \bmod k$", with mention of uses of that notation in RSA for $C=M^e \bmod N$ and $d=e^{-1} \bmod Ļ†(N)$, and thus an RSA tag. Teachers and reference material often skip that, and it's complex when we want to cover uā‰¤0 as is often the case. It causes a lot of confusion.
That would let me greatly simplify some of my answers, including that recent answer/hint to homework, by moving most of the material in notes ¹ and ² there to an answer of the hypothetical question.

I'm sure the question would be highly upvoted... But I frown at asking it and getting the rep from both the question and the answer. I would be happy to get neither, if someone makes a comprehensive answer, including by reusing some of my text.
That would save me time+effort and be much appreciated, actually.

@fgrieu I did with little extension for you.
Feel free to edit.

@kelalaka Great!
On the migration of this one , got this advice:
Rule #1: don't migrate poor questions
Rule #2: don't migrate if it's on-topic where it is
Rule #3: if you're not sure, find a mod or a high-rep user from the target site and ask 'em
On #3, I'm covered! (edit: uh, no, upon re-examination. I did not ask a high rep user of SO, I got the advice of a high rep user of crypto.SE, wich is a different thing)

@fgrieu yes, that's generally how migrations should be decided.

On #2, it's off-topic overall I believe, but it nearly is OK. The question's issue is performance is a crypto application
and the technical problem is about making modular reduction on the go, which is something used mostly in crypto
On #1: the code is quite childish, and I got this extra advice:
> Just a note of caution: generally be wary of migrating to SO - a post that's okay but not good on a smaller site can be received pretty viciously on SO
@kelalaka I did not find one (did not search so much, thus asked on a mod forum, and got this advice #1 (slightly edited) #2 #3, the indication about SO, and help on how to migrate.
Thus I'm afraid the question is not good enough for SO. What do you think?

@fgrieu that was a good question for SO. I've seen many times people answered similar question tha OP's are not aware of powmod.
In general, once migrated, I'm upvoting :)
It a general pity that the answerer don't upvote :(
This is very common on SO.
Is there a guide in meta about migration advice?
@fgrieu there are lots of questions there. That is a problem that I can see.
Also, adding some codes that you tested is a common request in SO.

Tried it, the migration worked, but that turned out to delete the existing answer, as a side effect.
Since that answer is at least fair, that was unfortunate.
Asked for help again, and was told there's a feature to undo the migration (Clear migration history). Did this.
I've got a lot to learn on moderation...

@fgrieu The answer is there.

@kelalaka Yes the undo worked. The question was only migrated for 2mn or so.

Q: RSA code giving result after more than 10 minutes

DeoChandraI am trying to implement RSA algorithm. I got a code in python. When I run it, it takes more than 10 minutes even when the primes are within 100 and message size is 8 decimal digits. Plese suggest what may be the problem in the code. # Write Python3 code here from decimal import Decimal def g...

Interesting, this question doesn't have [migrated] tag on our site and still hot topic
A copy is still here

A: RSA code giving result after more than 10 minutes

automatictesterWhat we've got here is a so called naive implementation, which doesn't consider time complexity of power then modulo operations involving large integers. I'd recommend you to read up on square and multiply, exponentiation by squaring, binary exponentiation for a bit of context. Typical naive impl...
