Little is known about the actual show, it was announced months ago but it still doesn't have an actual air date
It is unclear even if we are talking about short 5 min episodes or full length ones
that said, the fans are more worried about the art style.
As I said before, there is a big difference between the promo material and the animated characters from an old - now retired - ads Hasbro made for the toys.
You can see the ads here, mirrored by a youtube user on another channel.
the original one, the one on Hasbro official channel, the one I linked before.... it was switched to a private video
That should say a lot about the reactions the video got.

@Derpy hmm, I mean just going off wild speculation based off of Teen Titans Go, I might expect this to be based off of shorter episodes
literally all that spurs me to say that is that it looks like kinda a similar animation style change that happened between Teen Titans and Go, and this and MLPFIM

@trogdor you aren't alone, this thing already got the fan nickname of MLP GO
and some are pretty mad about it

I mean, I'm certainly not just automatically mad about it myself XD
I'll wait to see what it's like before I make my mind up about that one
but the visuals definitely make me think that at the moment

I can't find the general chat channel, so going to post here :x

I had an edit suggested on one of my posts to make it more "inclusive". I referred to Disguise Self as Alter Self's "little brother". I don't feel this is discriminatory, prejudiced, nor exclusionary. As such I think this is "compelled language to exercise control" rather than "compelled language to protect vulnerable people". Personally I think this is problematic for many reasons, and not something I want to support.

However I know that this whole subject is exceedingly vollitile on SE. I just want to make sure that I'm not

This is the general chat

Oh, I thought it was for TRPGs only :/

It's the general chat for rpg.se, whose topic is TRPG. We found adding the T (see also the tags) help network users understand this chat room when they find it out of context of main

Ah I see. I thought the general chat was put somewhere else, since TRPG is a little smaller than scope than rpg.se is :P

LARPs are similar enough (and the questions rare enough) that there isn't much point distinguishing (in chat room titles)

@trogdor as I said before, the real problem was the ads, which gave pretty strong bad vibes (I mean, they went as far to REMOVE it from their channel... think about that).
And they are still somehow unaware of what they are putting themselves into.

not the best sign for sure

A show which only know premise is "funny slice of life episodes" - which would match FIM but with the twist that "Pinkie has an assortment of magic potions that she uses to solve problems"
Wait a sec... kid has problem, kid takes potion, kid solve problem....
you... know where this is going.

I was not joking when I said some already fan-named the show "Pinkie in the Sky with Diamonds"

> way from home. Here, Pinkie Pie serves up frosted cupcakes to the best customers in the world— her friends! PONY LIFE episodes feature hilarious, “SLICE OF LIFE” stories that modern kids can relate to. The series is LOADED with magic, including a mysterious source of potions that Pinkie keeps hidden behind the bakery counter and breaks out when the need arises.
So, let me think.

@gszavae I don't think you're doing anything wrong, and the two users who reviewed the edit both rejected it (without any prompting), so at least 3 people agree with you.

Pinkie Pie, in a bakery (I was never a fan of "Breaking Bad", but thanks to my coworkers talking about it I know that "bake" also has another slang meaning) gives out chemicals to other ponies to "solve their problems"

@Derpy I thought "baking" meant to get high on weed, in Breaking Bad they deal more with meth which they "cook"
Or I'm not sure if they also "bake" it at some point
They sure do look like oven trays

At the very best, Twilight is listed as a fan of a potion that makes you study better... and Dash of a concoction that makes you faster.
@kviiri possible, yep, I never went into it. That said.... not exactly a fan of the scenario they made with Pony Life. You can probably see it is all too easy to make the connection

I personally liked Breaking Bad, although largely because of its awesome visuals. We joked with friends that Vince Gilligan occasionally shoots a scene in conventional angles, for emphasis.
Better Call Saul is even better but it kinda requires watching BB first to get the dramatic irony.

I have nothing against BB, it is just that I wouldn't want that a MLP-based show looked like they were promoting that way of solving problems ...
anyway, somehow unrelated, at least to Pony Life.

@Derpy totally understand x)
Esp with FiM mostly having the ponies rely on conventional ways of solving problems

oh god

10:16 AM
the Optimus Prime one could be saved... if only it actually looked like the art on the box.

On the other hand, I think it's disingenuous at best to pull out the full compelled speech argument for this kind of thing, and putting the word inclusive in scare quotes isn't a good look if we really want to make the Stack a kind and compassionate place.

But since the helmet and the armor are just painted and not molded.....

the power ranger one kinda looks fine honestly

the color they used for the eyes... it seems like she is wearing one of those sleeping eye-masks....
Also, please notice how painting on the cutiemark of the Optimus Prime one.
is the smearing on the painting intentional?

no idea XD

10:20 AM
And what should it represent?

I sort of doubt it

The Autobots logo crying because "I was put on this horrible toy"?
@kviiri I mean, I am fine with a reference to the show characters, that obviously isn't the problem. Just avoid themes that could easily be misunderstood.
^ to be clear, they already had him appear in the background in a group shoot in an episode, no one was mad about that.
Some were even happy.

Well yeah, there's nothing really childhood-corrupting about Walt's likeness

@Derpy Is there a link to the source, a screenshot thereof etc.? I can only find rather veiled mentions of favourite potions on the linked page.
I.e. nothing as blatant as the hilarious summary in the quote.
Maybe I'm critfailing my search rolls as usual.

> The new MY LITTLE PONY: PONY LIFE show looks at the funny side of friendship.
The new center of the world is Sugarcube Corner – just like going to a friend's house after school, this is our ponies' home away from home. Here, Pinkie Pie serves up frosted cupcakes to the best customers in the world—her friends! PONY LIFE episodes feature hilarious, 'SLICE OF LIFE' stories that modern kids can relate to. The series is LOADED with magic, including a mysterious source of potions that Pinkie keeps hidden behind the bakery counter and breaks out when the need arises
The above quote was taken from the press-release material. No sign of those on the official Hasbro site.
Could be related to the removal of the ads, like I mentioned before.
I mean, if you didn't see it watch it - it is mirrored here
It... is borderline creepy, and really not at all what I would expect for a MLP commercial

10:38 AM
@Derpy Thanks. Hmm. Video looks just meh what's the point of this.

Thanks to a fan who identified the song, we know the tittle and author.
Probably they choose this one because the toys are supposed to have brushable manes but... not best choice if you ask me.

@Derpy Ah, this is the solid link, for it leads to the original press release text in the second source. Thanks.

@gszavae Your original post seems fine, your bringing a question to chat is a great way to get a sanity-check, and it seems to me you're not really assuming good faith of the editor. You're allowing your reasonable reading of the common phrase "little brother" to color your assessment of the editor's intent: you're assessing the intent to be to exercise control rather than, more likely, to protect and welcome.
(Also, I feel like I should give a heads-up: describing another's edit to your post as "compelled speech" is a bad-faith tool--we can all see the edit-histories!--used by many trolls and problem-users around the Network, so just be careful that you're not associating yourself with those you don't want to associate with.)

@gszavae If it's a suggested edit, it's not really compelling anything. Take it or leave it. Also, without asking the person directly, we've got no way to know if the attempt was about "exercising control", "protecting people", or a completely different motivation. We just can't know the internal state of other people. Best we could do is ask.

@Derpy Doesn't seem more or less creepy than other toys. Those dolls with the "blinking" eyes from the 50's creep me out the most. Oh and the animatronic dolls at the It's a Small World Disney ride. Nightmare fuel forever.

3:54 PM
@GcL what I mean is that the ads, with a song called "Good as hell", moving dolls and that 4 seconds (0:32 to 0:36) Pinkie head shaking, the art style (column three in the meme picture I reposted a little above), that "feeling good" line... doesn't really match what I would expect from a MLP show/ads.
