It's my two-year anniversary of being on this site. Did I ever tell you folks about the story of my first answer here? *places a small wind turbine under TLC's mouth to make something useful out his incoming sigh* :P

Two years, nice
I can't remember ever hearing this story :P

Who are you and what have you done with TLC?!

It's all this working from home I think

@Jenayah מזל טוב

@TheLethalCarrot Seriously, had they declared national lockdown two days earlier, I'd still have a roommate to spend it with. :/
@Alex happy birthday, I guess?

4:10 PM
Close.

Happy anniversary?

@Jenayah Ah unlucky, we're not on lockdown yet (that I know of) just advised to work from home if possible and the company decided to do that

Nov 7 '18 at 22:08, by Alex
@Jenayah Colloquially, yes. But literally it would mean something closer to "good luck".

@Alex why good luck?

Isn't the canonical answer to that "...you'll need it?" :D

4:12 PM
@Jenayah Read the message it was a response to.

That's probably why it's colloquial.

@TheLethalCarrot yeah, mine too. They gave me a laptop, but they had no time to register its number in the ticketing service, so... I can read my mail, and that's basically it. The closest I have to an IDE is the default Notepad. I have zero access to all the other stuff, so my days are mostly spent refreshing the ticketing service page.

Oh that's crappy haha

@Alex oh, okay! :D

We've got port forwarding set up on the router so just remoted onto my work pc
Screwed if the power goes out haha

4:16 PM
Well at least the daily report is quicker to fill. "Still no access. IT said they'd come around to do it at some point."

Yeah, we had an outage yesterday; construction site across the street probably did something stupid (again). Computer went down hard, which meant reprovisioning the vagrant images when it came back up, because virtualbox seems to be completely unable to survive an unexpected shutdown.
I hate working from home. I should have swiped my desk chair from work; that at least would have been a start.

Yeah my chair at home is terrible

I don't like it as well... Didn't before, still don't

I had a better one but it didn't fit under the new desk haha

Well I mean at least there's the fun stuff. For instance, when your boss organises an audio meeting with about 20 folks, and explains that "higher-ups said we're keeping X and Y scheduled for now; HR will get back to you about commute authorisations, and I'd like an update on how everyone is set for DADDY I NEED TO PEE!!!"

Q: Mecha anime where a boy got jealous over a girl he likes for kissing an old man

WhRu109I'm trying to find a somewhat old mecha anime that I used to watch at Hero TV channel. It's been driving me crazy over the past few years. hi Jenayah, you just properly gramertized my question from long time back about the Green Lantern...while I 100% agree with your proper grammer, at times, the local vernacular aka color gets lost when it is sanitized for correctness. That is my only comment but you are correct in your edit of course. Just thought you should note that in general as a property of possible enjoyment readers may miss out on. :)

@Jenayah ^

@JasonSebring oh, I hadn't caught that it was stylistic choice, if that's what you mean (oops). I, personally, don't get how it's more enjoyable the former way, but maybe that's just me not being a native speaker :) thanks for the info, and of course don't hesitate to roll back whatever you feel would need rollbacking
@TheLethalCarrot ahead of you, lockdown with no roommate or remote work, remember? :P

Lol, yeah forgot
And you don't sleep so there's that too

5:09 PM
@JasonSebring Personally, I agree with the changes; if you want to be cute you could put that in a comment. There are a lot of people here whose first language isn't English, so intentionally odd sentences can make it unnecessarily hard to read.

To be fair though I think your edit was fine, you kept the "voice" of the post there (leaving the noob bit etc.) but corrected some, in my opinion, awkward to read parts (the or train)

(And FWIW, if Jenayah thinks it needs to be reworded, I would definitely go with that!)

@TheLethalCarrot why would I sleep when there are still 2565 unanswered story-ID questions?!

I was wondering why you all of a sudden was going through old DC stuff
Makes sense now of course

Hasn't that been going on, albeit slowly, for a while?

5:12 PM
Well there's that and me having been reading or re-reading mostly all GL stuff I can put my eyes on

Ah right

At least you're spacing it out, unlike Valorum's answer flood when he got his hands on the latest SW book...

Gotta get those answers in before anyone else can /s

Plus the fact that what I was mostly busy with during my free time isn't a concern anymore, so well

See if I was in your situation I'm sure I would just game all day long

5:15 PM
Actually I was planning to move flats now that my roommie is gone (officially alone in this city now :/), but well, lockdown
@TheLethalCarrot there's part of that, but technically I'm supposed to be "working", so I also have to be available and all, but well, can't do much without the right softwares

Yeah I know what you mean, shame even working from home I can't go on flexitime because I'd love a lie in :P

And spending the day on a phone/computer doesn't quite have the same taste when in the back of your head, you know you can't really do anything else, 'cause no going outside and all
Plus there has been an insolent sun for the last four days. Last time we had more than three hours of consecutive sun was, what, September?

Yeah I get ya, at least we're not in lockdown lockdown yet here

Yeah schools are closing but that's pretty much it so far right?

Schools closing, businesses are closing or going work from home, people advised to stay home as much as possible, shops are on shorter hours so they can restock overnight etc.
And of course only the hoarders can actually get anything from the shops
I've been a few times and it's always been empty

5:22 PM
Yeah as I said I was in the middle of moving flats so I was planning on doing pretty much what I was doing so far, eat a lot at lunch at work, eat lightly at dinnner at home, in order to deplete the remaining stuff in the freezer and the rest of the cans, so basically I hadn't gone to the groceries for like, a month?
(lost of cans and stuff in the freezer when you live in flatsharing and the roommate likes to cook way too much stuff, which gets frozen afterwards)

Oh damn :/
What's the situation with getting food should you need it?

So yeah, work's cantina got shut down so I went to buy stuff in order to prepare lunch food for work... Eight hours after that, national lockdown xD
@TheLethalCarrot yeah it's authorised. You have to carry around a paper where you solemnly swear you're out for groceries.

Ahh the good ol' forged teacher's note

Other "authorised going outside" situations are work if no reote work is available, provided your boss gave you a paper proving it, getting medicine, a bit of non-collective sport (basically, jogging but no further than 2km of your home), walk the dog
Ah, and "imperious family situation"
Not sure what that means though. I think it's for kids switching between divorced parents

So essentially you need a dog
Adopt one :P

5:29 PM
Grmbl it was on the to-do list for the next months
Move out so that I don't pay for an oversized apartment now that there are no more roommates, get into the studio, find and buy a small house with a BIG garden and get the dog which I've been pissing everyone of about for some 17 years

I found a slug in my cabbage yesterday. Maybe if I put a leash on it it can pass as a pet.

Stella looking like Nemesis
@Jenayah It's only logical

@TheLethalCarrot that very much looks like Stella doing a casting for a dog zombie movie.

The door was open as well haha

5:32 PM
The slug is currently living its best life in my compost bowl

@TheLethalCarrot I was finally able to do some proper groceries yesterday, after a lot of empty shelves since Friday.
And in general, the situation as a whole feels completely unreal.

Do we have a rough estimate of how many Darkstars there were in Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #48-something? — Jenayah 17 mins ago
Quick quantity surveying suggests approx. 2e7 assuming roughly earth-sized and human-sized respectively.
I was hoping to get out of the house for at least a short bike ride to make up for missing my commute, but the weather in the morning hasn't been cooperating. At least the dog gets me out the door, else I'd be completely turning into a blob.

Luckily I've got a stationary trainer. (Or, to be more accurate, am borrowing one.)

Was just looking to get one, but didn't get around to in time to get out to a store to check any out. What do you have? Is it good, do you recommend it?

5:59 PM
I have an old Tacx Flow. It's decent.
It measures speed, watts, distance, and stuff like that, but you can't like connect it to Zwift or anything.
No way of transferring data.

SQB
I'm always reminded of Chevette Washington, on her VR bike in All Tomorrow's Parties, riding a stage of the Tour de France.
Seems ideal.

For someone who works with computers, I'm remarkably resistant to tools I need to use my phone to control. :) As long as I have watts and cadence I'm good.
@SQB I grant some appeal to that. But as long as I'm not stuck indoors (nod to the current state of affairs) I'd rather use my time on a trainer for actual training. Which, as long as I'm not actually training for the TdF, means intervals, drills, etc.

SQB
Actualy, I'm not sure whether she did ride a stage, or that it was just mentioned as an option.
Gimme sec.
Ah, upon rereading, its trick was that it could reconfigure itself as different bikes, based on what you wanted to do, from racing bike to beach bike.

6:17 PM
@DavidW well it's the reverse, I'm trying to use their numbers to get Mogo's size

Ah, that makes sense. You have a good handle on their size, then.

I'm going to assume they're all more or less human-shaped. Most GL filler aliens end up being of humanoid shape and size.
That does leave a margin of error with the bulkier ones (say, comparable to Arkillo), but that'd give a pretty good estimate

@Jenayah That sucks. I hope we don't get to such heavy restrictions here. Though they did announce a suspiciously specific denial that there won't be a lockdown, so that makes me worried.
