@amWhy But that is a terrible choice for a duplicate. The thing linked to asks Does this hold true for noncommutative rings too and the solution given is a counterexample.
Granted the question asked doesn't specify commutative, one gets the feeling that's probably intended, and all the more reason to close as needs-details.
OK I found a few minutes to track down the duplicates I knew were lurking out there, and swapped them in. Please be more careful next time.
