That being said, you've already blocked the time. Even if you cannot be a life-long couple, you can continue getting to know each other with a view to becoming life-long friends. But if you pursue that goal, make sure the date knows what you're really after. Basic honesty is owed to everybody. — EvilSnack 1 min ago

"Basic honesty is owed to everybody." is exactly the point being made there. If you don't want to date someone who blatantly lies over obviously false (and easily verifiable as such) things, why would you want to consider them as a potential life-long friend? The pool of candidates for both is large, and this person has just Darwinized themself out of both pools, IMO. — Mawg says reinstate Monica 2 mins ago

I honestly wouldn't do that as Alex is bored because the conversation isn't about him, this makes the conversation about him. So he is getting what he wants — WendyG 2 mins ago

@baldPrussian, in that case (false advertising), I would feel no guilt in letting them know that their dishonesty is the reason for no further contact. — WGroleau 37 secs ago

"I would prefer if we stayed friends" might create a false expectation. Because the other person won't be sure whether that is true or there is not even interest on being friends. — Santiago 1 min ago

I don't know about the subtleties of this relationship, but in my experience, self-deprecation like this is mostly just a game and far from genuine. I suspect if you were to address it plainly you might be met with a reply along the lines of "yeah we know, just play along". — Daniel 43 secs ago

I agree that it is a bit rude and inconsiderate to leave like that, but I feel like this answer isn’t taking into account the fact that it is also rude and inconsiderate to blatantly lie on a dating profile. The context leading up to the date is important. — Shalop 1 min ago
