@digorydoo You're looking for a reader. We link the Penguin Parallel Stories book on our resources list: japanese.meta.stackexchange.com/a/759/29
There are a lot more options if you're willing to use a dictionary. Particularly the various "graded readers"

@NewMetaQuestion I think since the number of votes has to be the same for every reason, I'm not in favour of reducing the close vote threshold. I think reducing to 3 for every reason makes a single vote feel too strong and it becomes difficult to have a feel of what the community feels about a particular question.
Think about what it means to have a question with 3 close votes (being 2 away from being closed), but still remaining open. It is a signal that there are some who agree with the close votes, but largely there are much more "silent votes" that either abstain or think it should remain open. Reducing the threshold augments the way we think/feel about this information. (Compared with the situation of a question with 2 close votes, but being 1 away from being closed)
If all the threshold for every reason is reduced to 3. I think that gives too much weight to a single vote.

Q: Resource for finding the formality of a word

user3856370We often have questions about what is the difference between word X and word Y. Quite often this difference is just formality, for example you would only use word X in a formal business situation or in a scientific context, but word Y is a common word that everybody would use in daily life. The...

@Flaw I agree it’d be better to have it different per reason, but honestly the new UI changes seem to make it less of a problem to have a “somewhat okay” question closed, because I think it will prompt an edit & reopen

We want a faster close>edit>reopen cycle and a lower vote threshold seems to help this. But we also want a robust close>stay-closed process and that needs a higher vote threshold. I'm not sure how to reconcile the different goals. Let's wait a while and see how the community responds to that meta post.

I’m not convinced it would cause any real problems. How often has a post gotten three reopen votes without ultimately being reopened? I think that’s been pretty rare on our site, so it should be a minor problem at worst, and it’s one we should easily be able to deal with if it comes up.

I’ll post on meta later, but my general idea is we should try it for a few months and see if it causes problems in practice. Then we can revisit and change it back if we think it was a mistake.

My feeling is that once we’ve tried it, we’ll likely want to keep it that way. And trying it is the best way to test whether those problems are actual or purely theoretical.
