Q: Can't access VPN after connecting to L2TP IPsec VPN

MARSI can't seem to access this VPN despite successfully connecting to it. I am using UbuntuMate 18.04 and it is a L2TP VPN. I know my credentials are correct because I am able to access stuff on my android phone with my credentials, but not on my Ubuntu desktop. Basically the exact same problem as...

Q: Multiple browser windows on multiple workspaces all get moved to the same workspace upon closing and re-opening

DroidsSo, due to the stupid memory leaks in Chrome and Chromium, and me constantly having lots of windows and tabs open, I have to close and reopen my browser every 1-2 weeks. Note that my PC is always on. Now, I've got multiple monitors, and multiple workspaces. Let's say it looks like this: +-------...

@damadam the question was unclear, but now it is ok
I have voted to reopen it

@Zanna I had already see that why this question was put on hold (thanks to edit logs), that's why I put it here (because I can't vote to reopen question currenly)

Q: Question about Windows gets highly voted and has good Linux answers

user3140225While reviewing first posts, I got to review this question about why some files do not have extensions. From the screenshot provided, it was clear to me that the OP was using Windows 10. Furthermore, the circled files (e.g COPYING, CREDITS, FAQ, README) usually have a .txt, .log or .md extension...

As of today, we’re running it back. We’re changing the reputation earned from getting a question upvote to ten points, making it equal to the reputation earned from an upvote to an answer.

@Kulfy ?

Sara Chipps on November 13, 2019

In my very first blog post, I wrote about what a personal experience taught me about the Stack Overflow community. I said we were going to step back and re-evaluate how we deliver feedback, how we can improve content quality, and how we can reduce friction between people. I said that our goal is to have the question asking process be painless and beneficial for new people and Stack Overflow veterans alike.

During this re-evaluation period, we noticed something in our reputation reward system. We give anyone who receives an upvote on an answer ten additional reputation points, but only give five reputation points to people who receive an upvote on a question.  …

O.O

@Kulfy eh :D reading!

did anyone ask for that?

6:27 PM
"We’re recalculating reputation for every Stack Overflow and Stack Exchange individual based on this change. Every question upvote earned in the past will earn a value of ten reputation points retroactively."
@Zanna doubt it

we asked for plenty of things
is this even real?

May be SE ain't getting quality questions now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have 6 questions D:
97 upvotes so 500 rep :X

@Kulfy we know why that happens and it's not because of reputation

@Zanna She is Director of Public SO IIRC
I would be happy if they start counting question's score towards tag badge progress.

6:29 PM
it's because over time so many good questions get answered and the people willing to make effort find their answer before asking

it is their attempt to get the moderators back :=DDD

@Kulfy tag badge progress?

Hmm yeah..

their are badges specifically for asking questions already
@Rinzwind well... that... will not work
because moderators didn't resign due to people not getting enough reputation for question upvotes

@Zanna But that won't help in earning tag badges

6:31 PM
I never really cared about badges :P

I don't think asking questions should count towards tag badge progress

I know zanna :D

@Rinzwind I guess you just want to beat Oli??

Oli has asked 205 questions hahaha

@Zanna I sort of agree. a badge that is connected to both I believe should. Like: "answer own question with 10 upvote on answer and 25 on question" type of thing
@Kulfy That is not really a problem and will arrive in due time :D

6:34 PM
@Rinzwind oh yeah... I don't think there are any badges for self-answered questions? That could be a nice addition
personally I really like badges!

I like hats :=) soooooooooooooooooooooon we gonna get hats again

I love hats

@Rinzwind That day I'll recall terdon's poem

lol

OK recalculation already happened on MSE.

6:36 PM
cool

And it begins... — Mari-Lou A 4 mins ago

ah crap
Oli is gonna get more than 10k in rep from this :=)
well now i know who is behind this :X

I can't at all remember how much rep I had on MSE before :/

Q: New Reputation Calculation - was the community asked?

masonStack Exchange is recalculating everyone's reputation to award more reputation for receiving an upvote on a question. To my knowledge, the community wasn't asked for input on whether this was a good idea or not. Considering that 2.4 million people are about to receive varying levels of reputation...

@Kulfy yeah exactly what I was thinking

6:38 PM
@Zanna Current score-Association bonus-5*total upvotes
You might consider writing a shell script for that :P

Q: Should the weight of question upvotes be increased network-wide?

Robert HarveyStack Exchange has expressed an interest in increasing the reputation earned from question upvotes from 5 to 10 on all sites. Do you think this is a good idea?

@Kulfy I use the Python 3 shell to do arithmetic, but I definitely can't be bothered to actually look and count my upvotes (few though they are)

Write a query on SEDE :D

@Zanna you got roughly 700 :=)

@Rinzwind lol everyone answering says no and I agree with them

6:40 PM
me too

Sara Chipps
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—myself and the community team are really excited to improve the experience that all levels of coders have on Stack Overflow, from new users that are learning front-end for the first time to our respected moderators who have been coding for 20+ years.

I don't see any thought behind this in that blog post

nope all she gives is a statement of intent. No reasoning for it

@Kulfy that's always fun and then other people might find it useful
but rene is probably on it already :)

OK so now to balance 1 upvote, 5 downvotes would be required for questions too. -_-

6:45 PM
well, only in the sense of reputation, which I think is far less important than the post score

But still that can be a win win situation

side-eyes Sara Chipps and goes back to reviewing close votes

Q: grub-install: error: failed to register the EFI boot entry: Function not implemented

db_tmplafter upgrading to Ubuntu 19.04 I frequently got a 'failed to register the EFI boot entry: Function not implemented.' error when installing new packages. I'm helping my signif other with new laptop HP Windows 10 Home, I need to get a dual boot Ubuntu on there in case of failure in the future, I need info on UEFI dual boot, I think Rod Smith had some great quick primers he wrote - Anyone know where to find those articles?
FYI I looked around for a while so I came here :) I'll check back later for replies and Thanks in advance

11:32 PM
@xtrchessreal If they were on his website, that's rodsbooks.com. If they were here on Ask Ubuntu, these are his answers. I believe quite a lot of what he has written relates to UEFI dual boot, so I'm not sure how to narrow it down further. You can search for posts by a specific user on Ask Ubuntu by putting user:##### into the search box (where ##### is replaced by the user's numerical ID).
When you're on a user's profile, that's filled it for you in the search box. The search feature on Stack Exchange sites is unfortunately quite limited in its ability to turn up the most relevant content, so I've also found it useful to search Google with search terms like site:askubuntu.com "NAME" other-terms... where NAME is replaced by someone's name and other-terms... is replaced by whatever I want to search for.

@EliahKagan Thanks a bunch, I'll put the search info in my Ubuntu notes of commands tips etc. Thats a great search tip actually.
Tips I mean

Big help! I found the exact article I remember reading a long time ago using your tips :)
