@TheWanderer So ti's ridiculous because your friend got de-modded? Because it's a Yaweh website with 12 tribes and what not it's not as black & white as judging in AskUbuntu. I would stay out of judging the judges there. I don't think there is much anyone here can do anyway.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix :) would you please be so kind to explain your statement from yesterday :) ?

Q: Play .MP4 video and its frame index

feelfreeI am using Videos to play .MP4 video files in Linux. Sometimes I also use VLC media player to play these files. They are great in Linux. However, either of them has one feature I desperately want to have: showing the frame index along with the video frame. I even cannot find a way to identify the...

I am wondering if there is any hope for fixing the login process on my Lenovo laptop to be smooth with Ubuntu?

Q: 18.04 flashes black screen and lock screen several times during login

WildcardThis is an annoyance, but I thought I should post about it and see if anyone knows the solution. I found: GDM3 does not start in Ubuntu 18.04 But my situation is different as the laptop DOES eventually log in, it just takes a while (like 10 seconds or so, even if the user was already logged ...

I've tried gdm3, I've tried lightdm, I've tried sddm. The problem persists.
Maybe it's not the display manager, but the desktop manager? I don't know. I would like to stick with GNOME, but I suppose I could try KDE (or something else) if anyone here thinks it would help.
This is a ThinkPad L540, which appears to predate the Canonical certification of this line of laptops: certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201702-25370 but I would have hoped it would work flawlessly anyway.
I recently came across this statement in Forbes:
> Lenovo: The Linux community swears by their ThinkPads, and it’s a brand that consistently runs like a dream with Linux. Lenovo even recently announced that all of its refreshed ThinkPad P series laptops will ship with Ubuntu as a pre-installed option. ThinkPads are also notoriously durable, so if you’re already a fan, this is worthy of consideration.
So, I thought maybe I should give another thought at fixing this....

@Videonauth The chatroom used to have tons of people in it. Then one day I got a chat suspension and stayed away for about 6 months I think. When I came back it was never the same. In the old days you could discuss anything and people would just agree to disagree. With whomever had me suspended though, if they don't agree with you they have you suspended. At the time I think it was my opinion on Erdogan's treatmetn of Syria but he has improved since then.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Ah ok, i think i get now what you where referring to, and yes politics is a minefield to discuss sadly, i have had a bad experience lately with a friend who is now not a friend any longer
Lesson learned: If you value a friendship do not talk about money, politics and religion.

@Videonauth Add genders to that list

hence silence. :)

Q: How to configure second mate-panel via script/dconf keyfile?

CraigI am attempting to create an automatic installer, and part of the requirement is to have the mate-panel appear on the top of two monitors. I have attempted to create a keyfile that contains a second top level by creating org/mate/panel/toplevels/top2 with the appropriate values and added it to t...
