SkroppoWhen I try to start monitor mode on my laptop, it just returns this: Found 5 processes that could cause trouble. If airodump-ng, aireplay-ng or airtun-ng stops working after a short period of time, you may want to run 'airmon-ng check kill' PID Name 549 avahi-daemon 614 avahi-daemon 790...

Q: Virtualbox; The character device /dev/vboxdrv does not exist

Oliver Chris LudwigI get this message when I want to start Virtualbox on Ubuntu: The character device /dev/vboxdrv does not exist. Please install the virtualbox-dkms package and the appropriate headers, most likely linux-headers-generic. You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed. I...

I want to write a script to change password of my PC
Here's a part of it
#!/bin/bash
passwd

Now my terminal will ask for my current password
What should I type in my script to enter current password
What should be the code, so that I can type the password inside the script itself

9:59 AM
@AkashKarnatak What is the link to your question here on-site?
(As that's a bit unclear what you're trying to do)

I haven't asked this question on this site

@AkashKarnatak Please do, this is a Q&A site, not a Q&a chatroom...
;-)

morgen @Fabby

@AkashKarnatak You can still ping me with a link to your question...
@Bahamut The answer to that could be "Goede" or "Guten" depending on whereas you want my current or my previous country...
>:-) ;-)
(respectively)

10:03 AM
btw I am trying to change my password silently without letting the terminal display anything on the terminal. Something like this

$ bash myscript.sh
$

@AkashKarnatak Please take a step back, ask a question on what you're trying to accomplish first and then say what you've tried already and where it fails...

Q: ZFS Drive both in pool and hot spare?

rsturtleI'm running a RAIDZ2 setup on my server. This is mounted as /NAS, and not involved in the boot process. Running Ubuntu Server 18.10. I had two drives go out on me at the same time. I have already replaced and resilvered one of the drives, but when I detached the faulted drive, it did not remove t...

A.G.I wand to change my M'board and shift my PC to Ubuntu 18.04LTS or above. So I wish to know the range of amount of RAM with an i3 processor. @Bahamut I don't see where you've posted anything on that link. Do you have the same problem?

7:42 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix look for @nobody

8:25 PM
@Bahamut So you have two user accounts this one and @nobody? If not I'm confused... Did @nobody ask you to post the link here to get help on his behalf?

8:40 PM
The old one is bahamut the. new nobody
so I'm nobody and bahamut, and I do not speak with myself :D

Awww the alternate universes are aligning and making more sense now!
@Fabby How is the new job?

8:56 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Back to my old love: Hardware...

@Fabby Oh yes the good ole' Token Ring network days.... Frankly I prefer the software development side :)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix All those clouds have to be built you know...
It's a dying race the hardware engineers...

Cloud is just a new name for Time Share computing

@Fabby Daddy, what are clouds consisting of? ANSWER: Mostly Linux machines!
:D

@Videonauth Yup.

9:08 PM
Well 20 years ago the answer would have been of dust and water molecules :D

@Videonauth Mostly non-Windows machines. ESXi, Solaris, Linux, ...

9:28 PM
I'm not sure if Trouble with Copy/Paste should be answered or closed as unclear.

@EliahKagan I answered it, but I'm afraid it reveals my GUI challenged skills.

Okay, I won't vote to close it (not at this point anyway).

9:49 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix You old fart, you!
:D
@WinEunuuchs2Unix GUIs are for N00bs
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Have a +1 anyway.

@Fabby Thanks but for about three years now I've been worried that @Seth will see how buddies in Ask Ubuntu habitually upvote each other and will "de-point" us :P

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Nah, he doesn't. If you exaggerate, his overlords will though.
(The SE Employees)
@WinEunuuchs2Unix And I know what I'm talking about

@Fabby Oh from 30K to 15K in a microsecond. That's gotta hurt!

@WinEunuuchs2Unix It did as I was handing it out in bouties for interesting questions mostly.
Anything above 30K got handed out...
@WinEunuuchs2Unix less than 3*7 upvotes per week: no one notices...

Serge sort of told a story about the episode but I didn't fully understand.

10:02 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I upvoted all of the answers of one particular person.
to stay under the radar, I also upvoted a few other people as well.
That didn't help
' > 3 per day and >20 / week get noticed.

Someone from work wanted to know what website I belonged to so she could upvote me. I refused to tell her Ask Ubuntu.

>:-)
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Does that have to do with she being cute and you having a dorky username here?
:D

Doesn't really matter anyway. None of us will ever catch @Rinzwind in year to date points!

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Nope. He's too far ahead...

@Fabby Haha yeah my username was created under the influence of alcohol and Windows Angst :(
That said even sober Linux is better than Windows for me.

10:06 PM
So she is cute? Hmm, send her my way!
:D

No married and bitter, cute would not be applicable.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Windows used to be work and Linux play...
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Nowadays it's OSX work and Linux Play and work.
(had to go fetch my private laptop to use Ubuntu to connect a USB2Serial2Console)
The bloody MacBook Pro has some issues with that.
Have I ever mentioned I stopped buying anything Apple when the Good Steve left the company???

@Fabby Oh there is a 150 point bounty question on USBSerial: askubuntu.com/questions/1067698/… Serge could have answered but didn't so I put in an answer.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Edited and upgoated.

@Fabby Silly man! I wanted you to post an answer because you are the USB to serial expert. Only thing I know about serial is modems make funny sounds.

10:13 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix It's easier to give an edit and an upvote as I would have answered the same thing it now says...
And you still care about rep: I don't...

@Fabby OK well keep in mind you upvoted me twice today. One more time and I'll loose 30K points :)

I believe /dev/ttyUSB0, when present, has dialout as its group and is group-readwritable, so an alternative to running screen as root would be to user an account that is a member of the dialout group (or add the current user to that group). I don't know if this would be considered worth mentioning in that answer or not.

@EliahKagan I'll edit that in...

@EliahKagan You sound like another Serial expert. Maybe you can post an answer on that bounty question too?
I notice you are posting like 10 answers a day these days...

@Fabby I don't have a system with that device node that I can access easily right now and I haven't found a good source to confirm this, but I think it's true. A quick search for ls -l /dev/ttyUSB0 turns up this question from several years ago where it was this way in Ubuntu 15.04.

10:19 PM
@EliahKagan I know it does, it was just a passive memory, until you brought it back alive...

I'm so old that I can recognize the BAUD rate of a modem, just by listening to it.
(well: I can distinguish between 38400, 19200, 9600, 4800, 2400, 1200 and 300
I cannot distinguish between 38400 and 55600.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I don't really have any thoughts besides what's there, and I likely wouldn't even have thought of screen. It occurred to me that may be tmux would be another option... but it seems tmux doesn't have that feature.
Go screen!
:)
People might be interested to know how to make byobu work with screen for that purpose, but that could go in the existing answer (and might just not be important enough to include).

@EliahKagan It's a good answer now worthy of a chuckle and an upvote from you...
(Click the purist link)

That post is good and I would've upvoted it already if not for having used all my votes for the day.
Thanks for the edit btw. I hope @WinEunuuchs2Unix doesn't mind the additions.
I appreciate you citing me as a "purist." That is much more flattering than if you had called me a "person too lazy to edit," which would have been at least as true. :)

10:28 PM
If @WinEunuuchs2Unix minds my excellent additions to his answer, I'm going to fly to Canada, kick him in the nuts and then go to a bar with him and get totally plastered with him...
cc @EliahKagan

@EliahKagan I don't mind the edits per sae. I just think @Fabby could have created his own answer about baud rates which would work in all situations if it solved the problem. In that case screen as an option would have been mute.

@Fabby I feel that this algorithm could be optimized by omitting the second step.

@EliahKagan Now it's just "purist". Sometimes it's "very elaborate, gentle and witty" and sometimes it's stark raving mad genius
:D :D :D
(No, not talking about me, but talking about you! Genius!)
@EliahKagan If I every fly into Syracuse, I promise I won't kick you in the nuts, just get you plastered...
And @WinEunuuchs2Unix only would have his goolies kicked if he would have minded my edits!
>:-) ;-)
I need to go sleep: I have induction training tomorrow.
Good night!

Good night and have a great time getting indoctrinated tomorrow!

@WinEunuuchs2Unix If I wouldn't have been banned from chat for 5 minutes already for posting the same pic,
I would send you the Feyenoord kid now...
;-) >:-) ;-)

10:41 PM
@Fabby send it in skype to me please :D

@Videonauth Just google "Feyenoord kid" and all will become clear.

ah ok
I'm a bit sad tonight we have a meteor shower and I got no chance photographing it

@Videonauth Cumulonimbus playing up again???

partial cloud cover, and its in a direction where i get insane light pollution on the picture so probably will not see it

Anyway, I just said I was going to sleep!
Good night!

10:47 PM
@Videonauth With any luck a meteor lands in your backyard and you sell it for $1 million tomorrow because it contains alien enzymes :)

oh yeah and then i might move to a place on earth where i have no light pollution and nice nature to photograph :D

@Videonauth The artic has lots of land for sale and it's snow (dirt) cheap!

Although you not have to go far here to get amazing shots
^ @WinEunuuchs2Unix

@Videonauth The dragon fly pic caught me off-guard.

:)
sadly i have a hard time ID the bugger :)
@WinEunuuchs2Unix you want to look at it on another tab this allows you to zoom in ;)
and thats already a compressed jpeg :)

11:03 PM
@Videonauth You've got excellent photography skills!

to be honest it was more luck than skill , i took about 10 images in a row and only one was a keeper
but thats normal on small obejcts or insects
but I'm having fun with this really bought the camera about 15 days ago
as a reason to fight my daemons and go outside

People allergies?

agoraphobia

Don't know my phobias that well. Is that fear of open spaces?

yep
one of the things i suffer from

11:08 PM
Well look at it this way, you've ventured into the World Wide Web which probably extends even to the space station.

and i decided that it is enough, sitting since 15+ years in my home all the time

Meet the right girl and I'm sure she'll take you places you've only dreamed about :)

this is what i invested in last month

That's quite the fancy rig. Your work must pay well :)

im a pensioner
but i got a back pay from health insurance and used this money

11:14 PM
Pensions are hard to get these days. They started scrapping them a few decades back.

and it helped tho, now im looking out of the window and wish i could go outside
and even manage sometimes when i have a good day or a caretaker with me

11:36 PM
If photography is your hobby it should be easier going outside than say if Software Development was your hobby like is mine. Some days when I'm out and about I just can't wait to get back home to keep working on that next cool software project.

Well i like programming too, but to be honest it is time to fight my fears
im 47 now and spending the rest of my life almost 24/7 in my flat is not a prospect i look out to

11:50 PM
Maybe start with small 5 to 10 minute trips outside everyday to get a coffee or something?

friday to saturday night i was outside for almost 2 hours
for getting shots of the milky way
well im off to bed now :) see you later

I was thinking of going out to be around people on this planet, not the other ones :)
