Q: 80's Animation Sci-Fi Movie Identification - Woman and man on a planet attacked by large colorful bees

BlizzStrxFirst of all, the movie is not Nausicäa or Time Masters (1982). Although it is kinda similar. What I remember (memory is 17 years old): I saw this movie on Free-TV or VHS in maybe 2002. The animation style I have in memory is Anime, realistic, kind of like in "Time Masters" but more colorful a...

Holy shit. Titans is the best superhero show there ever was.

@Jenayah Better than Inhumans?

in The Screening Room, 8 secs ago, by Jenayah
I mean, the characters are pretty much all wrong. They do stuff their comics counterparts would never do. But once you just forget that, it's just incredible, and so. much. kudos. to the finale.
@Alex haven't watched it. You?
(though TBH, I'm not an Inhumans fan to begin with)

@Jenayah No. I googled "worst superhero show" and that's what came up.

@Alex worst superhero show I've seen is probably The Flash.
The Marvel shows I've seen so far are Daredevil (up to S2), Iron Fist (S1). Which were pretty good.
Caught a glimpse of some Agents of SHIELD, didn't really like it.
Daredevil, Defenders and Punisher are on the watch list.
But holy heck Titans was just awesome.

@Jenayah Iron Fist was second place.

2:16 AM
I don't know what their comparison is based on.
Iron Fist can't be the 2nd worst superhero show when something liek Supergirl exists.

It's based on Rotten Tomato ratings.

They don't have a page for Arrowverse on Rotten Tomatoes?

While some of the items on this list have a decent Rotten Tomatoes score, they're only included because most (basically all) of the superhero cartoons ever made aren't rated on the website, nor are many older shows.

Arrowverse isn't "older"
Meh, it's popular, I guess. They wouldn't keeping doing it otehrwise
As a side note, Titans reinforces my position of "f**k trailers, I'll wait 'till I can see the thing and ot watch the trailers so I don't have a previous idea". The trailers are awful and don't do any justice to the series.
Then again, it's so much of an unusual series you can't even present it with a trailer.
Oi @RDFozz, watch that sometime and tell me what you think :)

@Derpy oi

Been thinking to post a question about Christmas Carol, but I am not sure there is actual ground to answer it.
I don't know if there is any actual published material outside the original book that could better explain what Dickens view was.
any form of commentary or such.

Ask the question, maybe someone else does or can find it

Well the whole point of the question is learning if there is, innit?

11:28 AM
If you don't ask you'll never know

Maybe you can help me to shape it to be more appropriate

sure

Basically, what I wanted to ask is the following.
I noticed that most of the adaptations of the book follow the story "pretty closely" in regard to the last Ghost.

Darci I loved this show but it's REALLY bugging me as I don't know the name.... I remember it being animated and in the morning, in the year 2011 or around that. First Scrooge sees the scene with the "unknown" dead rich man, then he is made aware of Tiny Tim death and finally he sees his grave.
The event order makes it so that the final result is that he appears more worried about his destiny than Tim one.
There are a few adaptations that (probably unintentionally) skip the part where "Scrooge" sees HIS death, instead focusing on the collateral damage he caused.
I wonder if there is any reasoning behind that. I mean, to me the change actually helps the moral of the story. But I wonder if that was something that Dickens ever considered.

@Jenayah "big"
just a little chart, for your future reference.

@Jenayah one of the few anime that can put Dragonball Z / Super nonsensical power levels to shame.
> Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is 52.8 billion light years tall, according to the official guide book from GAINAX (仕事魂). This makes it about 57% the size of the observable universe, which spans 93 billion light years.

After transforming into its drill form, its size is multiplied significantly, since its Super Tengen Toppa Giga Drill is at least ten times longer (528 billion light years), and about four times wider. This gives it a cone area over 180 times the size of the Super Tengen Toppa, and the size of over 100 universes.

@Jenayah Is there an Orthodox Jewish version of Hogwarts School of Prayer and Miracles?

eh?

Maybe it would be on topic then.

@Adamant There's a question there about Harry Potter:
13
Q: Would Harry Potter be killed as a sorcerer?

MalperBefore asking my question, I'd like to make it clear that this is being asked in all seriousness, and not as some form of satire or "Purim Torah". I think there is a precedent for asking halachic questions based on fictional works – as Dave pointed out elsewhere, R' Zevin has a classic article on...

He-who-must-not-be-named should be referred to as Yemach Shemo — Clint Eastwood Jan 8 '14 at 2:15
this got some upvotes but I don't get the joke... care to explain? :)
(if it is indeed a joke)

@Jenayah It's not exactly a joke.
More a reference.

ah?

Yemach Shemo is a Hebrew phrase.
Which means "his name should be erased".
It is often appended to the names of historical figures who were considered particularly evil.

People say it about Haman and whatever

6:36 PM
So you might often hear someone say "Hitler yemach shemo".

Oh
oh, indeed, that's not a joke :/

So the comment is basically comparing Voldemort to the wicked people throughout the generations.
In a somewhat amusing way.
Since Voldemort's name is anyway "erased".
By calling him "He Who Must Not Be Named".
@Adamant Particularly apropos for today's Hebrew date.

It's funny because Kabbalah and folklore are full of effectively, sorcerers.
They get their powers by being righteous rabbis, but still....

@Adamant Are you Jewish? Or just knowledgeable? (Feel free not to answer.)

Well, I do like to think I'm knowledgeable.
But anyway, yeah, I believe I can find a good example.
@Alex - Actually, you might know one. What's an example of a Kabbalistic Rabbi who used "practical Kabbalah" f o r something other than imminent danger?

6:46 PM
@Adamant Well there are all sorts of legends, but I can't tell you if any of them are true.

@TheLethalCarrot i thought the character ID tag was kinda pushing it, seeing as it's not actually a character but rather an illustration

@Alex Well, naturally.
Ah, doesn't the Talmud claim that Rava created a human with mystical techniques?
I see a source that claims it but I can't find the original

@Adamant But many stories involving no threat of imminent danger are usually about secret knowledge the practitioner was able to divine. There are a bunch of stories about miraculous travels.

@Alex Yes, exactly, that's the sort I'm thinking of.

Q: Which was the first story to feature space elevators?

PabloIn many very popular sci-fi anime stories, there are "space elevators", or, in other words, a giant tower which allows to transport people and/or objects from the surface of Earth to space. Some of these stories where they appear are Gundam (Gundam Reconguista in G (2014) , Mobile Suit Gundam 00 ...

6:52 PM
So maybe Harry isn't a sorcerer but rather knowledgeable about the techniques used by these Kabbalists.
;)

@Adamant But for the record, "kabbalah" at least in name is a long post-Talmudic phenomenon.

@Alex I'm aware. But Jewish mysticism isn't.

@Niffler well it’s an illustration of a character. I’d say the tag is appropriate but up to you

@Adamant True. But then there's a school of Jewish rationalists that reinterpret virtually anything smacking of mysticism.
