My 2nd attempt at Red Baron – meta.stackexchange.com/a/320192/327561
Fingers crossed, cause my first attempt failed terribly

May i ask someone? :-) how do you get Clean-up Duty hat? ( I am not asking how to get Waffle hat because i got it already :D in a way that i don't know how i got it :D, lol), i don't see it here: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/320012/…

You should retag some questions probably a mixture of old and new questions.
How did you get Waffles hat?

@NogShine I don't know how i got it :-)

@U9-Forward hey that's my answer ;-)

4:08 AM
Seems like simply retagging doesn't award the Clean-up Duty hat
It's possible that it's retag 2 or 3 days in a row

5:09 AM
Good morning. If you haven't already, posting an answer to meta.stackexchange.com/questions/320012/… while it's still at -3 is a great chance to win Red Baron, which is probably the hardest hat.

1 hour later…
6:19 AM
Do add to the Clean-Up Duty mystery: I did some retag about 10 questions yesterday (plus some normal mod stuff), got Clean-Up (and Propel) this morning
But looking at the users on AskDifferent who actually got the Clean-Up hat as well it can't be purely retagging

7:07 AM
Why didn't I get SO Goes Flapper here? apple.stackexchange.com/a/345560/70505

7:18 AM
I did just over 10 re-tags and normal editing of questions stuff and got propel - was expecting clean-up.

What's the theory for getting clean-up?

From reading the above I thought it was doing 10+ retags originally. But I haven't read the updates above since yesterday (GMT).
Ah... propel appears to be for Get three other secret hats on one site - according to winter-bash-2018-hat-list

@AlexanderO'Mara Maybe you get Flapper only if the long answer was accepted, you posted a short one, and the OP moved the accept to your answer?

8:05 AM
So, is there any progress on Cleanup duty?

8:19 AM
Cleanup Duty isn't purely retag, cause I already retagged 20+ questions so far

When did Winterbash star? 11 December...time?
@Dylan Born from the ashes 😎
Check my user activity. I did some tag edits yesterday and today. A couple of them a day before yesterday too.

@NogShine Dec 12 at 0:00 UTC
Maybe it's do tag edits for 2 days in a row

I did tag edits 3 days in a row.

8:41 AM
I guess it could be that, but many users got it on the 2nd day of WB, so I presume it’s 2 days in a row

I do tag edit most days and did 10+ yesterday and another 10 today - no clean-up
Admittedly, many of these were adding new relevant tags rather than changing existing. Don't know if that matters?

Q: Why are glasses considered hats?

agcSome hats appear to be glasses: Retro Fan ...and yet these are called hats, instead of say some broader category such as "head wear" or "novelty disguise" or something. Why?

5 hours later…
3:00 PM
anyone else waiting for the "Red Baron" hat? I answered a question at -4 that got +3 and my answer got +5, but haven't got the hat yet. My answer wasn't accepted though

@eLRuLL if the question was upvoted by you, it has to get to +4

@Eran that's great observation. I'll wait for more upvotes then. Thanks ;)

3:15 PM
Any other theories for Clean-up Duty, other than retagging? (retagging didn't work)

3:30 PM
@Panda my latest idea (not tested but fits with my hat) is edit 5 questions in which you have an upvoted answer. There are badges with similar criteria. Not sure if the answers must be posted during WB or not.

@Eran ah, thanks, let me check that out

@Panda just tested this theory on MSE. Will let you know if it works.

@Eran Thanks!

3:59 PM
Didn't seem to work for me :(
That's a tough one to crack, together with Waffles

4:18 PM
I'm 2 votes short of a Scarf Ace hat :/

stackoverflow.com/questions/53786325/… and I'm one vote short of James Bond

@Eran Really? ;) Please see my post ^^^ :)

@DavidPostill it's 1 now :)

there you go

@DavidPostill 2 votes short of the Merlin and The Propeller: linguistics.stackexchange.com/questions/27778/…

4:25 PM
@jknappen It's 1 now :)

:-) Thx!

not anymore :)

for Sun Wukong

Lol. 1 dv applied.

thanks ;)

4:27 PM
@panda -1

you deserve it, -1

yep I've got 3 now, it's enough
thanks!

@eLRuLL Thanks. Waitng for the postman to deliver the hats :-)

Anyone got Waffles recently and have any theories?

And 1 UV need for the Merlin :)

4:32 PM
@DavidPostill done :)

Thanks. And I just got identification division, which I wasn't expecting :)

Got the waffles almost at the beginning before knowing about hats :/ No idea why.
Cleanup could be removing one's comments after editing an answer?

I think all people that have "Waffles" also have "Clean-Up Duty"?

@eLRuLL This user has Waffles w/o Clean-up math.stackexchange.com/users/626177/…

No this is not the case, on linguistics linguistics.stackexchange.com/users/23365/tobiornottobi has Waffles but not Claen-up duty

4:37 PM
@DavidPostill Ah. Guru is a silver badge. So if you get Scarf Ace you automatically get identification division

Yep, +2 hats :)

If you still haven't tried for Red Baron, you can try answering this question - meta.stackexchange.com/questions/320012/… - then we'll have to get it to positive score. A bounty can help

@eLRuLL No. I have Waffles but no Clean Up.

I meant to link the question, not the answer

what about someone having "Clean-Up Duty" but no "Waffles"?

4:38 PM
I have both, but got Waffles much sooner

@Eran It's still honestly the best candidate for Red Baron
The questions for my other 2 Red Baron candidates got -4 and a whopping -10 :)

@Panda yes, I think it's much easier to reverse the course of a question on meta than on regular sites

@Eran totally agreed

Clean-up without Waffles is possible, see this one askubuntu.com/users/527764/zanna

@jknappen great, thank you

4:45 PM
I think it's possible for Clean-up Duty to be edit tags 2 days in a row
And it has to be of a combination of removing and adding tags on separate questions

@Panda when you tried my latest theory for cleanup, did you edit new questions only (posted during WB)?

@Eran nope, they're a combination of new & old

@Panda maybe they should be all new

@Eran let me try it on Meta.SE

The user with clean-up without waffles spent a lot of time in the review queues. Probably some specific review actions ...
... in some weird combination (like improving edits, rejecting edits and so on, there was such a hat before)

4:51 PM
@jknappen I have clean-up and no waffles (IPS), if you want to analyze my activity

@Eran done, I'll tell you if I get the hat

@Panda thanks

@jknappen Could it be "use all options in a review queue", I remember there was a hat somewhere along those lines before
Oh, it was They Live in 2016
> In the suggested edit review queue, either "Improve Edit" or "Reject and Edit" 5 times
Anyone never used the "Reject and Edit" button and got the hat

@Panda when I tried that I didn't get the hat (both 5 improve edit and 5 reject edit)

@Eran ah so that's ruled out

4:59 PM
@Noon when did you get that hat?

@Panda unless there was a huge delay, and my final tag edits that seemed to trigger the hat had nothing to do with it.

@eLRuLL Something like 21 hours ago

@Eran I used up 20 reviews today, I guess I can try that out tomorrow
@Noon Did you happen to use "Reject and Edit" often?

@Panda I have done zero review of suggest edit, reopen vote or low quality queue recently (but still did flag and vtd for low quality)

@Noon thanks, so it's ruled out @Eran
Anyway, I'm gonna sleep, will try out more stuff tomorrow and update you guys

5:10 PM
@Panda good night

I got waffles and pretty sure wasn't doing anything other than commenting/editing and answering. Can it be number of comments based/ time between comments?
@eLRuLL Not true

@QHarr Time between comments would be really unfair for small sites (where you haven't so much to comment on)

@Noon True. I definitely wasn't using any review queues at the time though.

The postman was here and brought the Merlin, I think he'll ring another time soon. The enlightned badge took almost half an hour to appear, the hat was faster, than.
Thanks to all who helped!
.. and here is the propeller!

5:41 PM
Any reason why people here think the clean-up hat is for editing tag and not flagging for NAA/VLQ and be right ?

To get brunhilde, do you have to earn 150 rep total on 3 different sites? Or >= 150 rep on each site?

On each site. It is quite tough to get this one.

@jknappen Ah. I was afraid of that, thanks :)

5:58 PM
@Noon I got cleanup after editing tags of 10 questions, but it probably wasn't the tag edit alone that triggered it.

@QHarr not true what? :D I said a lot of untruthful stuff

Is there a query on data.stackexchange.com to determine answers that are one vote off the Pizza hat (aka Extra Toppings from a former Winterbash)?

@panda I don't think it has anything with tags, I don't edit tags very often and got the waffles very soon. But commenting, upvote downvote, yes.
And not flagging either. Seldomly flag anything.
I may be wrong, of course.

6:35 PM
One UV required for Freehand Circle ...

deposes mod
:P

Stating a fact is not the same as asking for votes :)
3

yeah... you can see I haven't upvoted that just because you stated a fact ;-)

23 votes each before Brunhilde... Just stating a fact...
;)

@EriktheOutgolfer That's strange, because I don't see any recent upvotes because you haven't upvoted ...

Rob
6:45 PM
Factscinating

@DavidPostill maybe check again? ...

@EriktheOutgolfer Hmm. I blame caching :)
Thanks for all the upvotes from people who haven't upvoted because I stated a fact instead of blatantly begging ... ;)

btw... your answer over there is wrong, it will never insert https://i.stack.imgur.com/G8RJd.png nowadays
;)

@EriktheOutgolfer Hmm. I will have to think about updating it then :)

tfw pings are so many that you start replying to winks...

2 hours later…
8:23 PM
I think the duck hat has a more detailed trigger than just hitting the discard button (either that or it's bugged)
I discarded a draft on PPCG and on linguistics yesterday, and another one on linguistics ~20 minutes ago (I also posted a question like 2m ago as well there)
I haven't tried discarding answer drafts at all though, and I'm still waiting another 15 or so to make sure it isn't going to proc from the most recent discarded draft

I got it without discarding an answer draft.
I did discard a question draft.

hm ok
also, I don't believe it was text length, I wrote a 2 sentence one on PPCG and discarded that along with a 2 paragraph one on linguistics

just discarded a (nonsensical) question draft over Meta.SE too, let's see...

^ same with PPCG a minute ago
the transcript seems to imply it takes a while, is this reproable for everybody?

8:31 PM
Took about an hour for me

hats always take a great while

I mean normally it's not longer than 30 min or so last I checked

I think it refreshes hourly
let's go back to the Triage reviews...

@eLRuLL lol. Was about waffles + clean-up.

Q: Winter bash Secret Hats 2018

FabbySo where is the question that shows all the secret hats for 2018 as I've got 2 already but can't find the canonical question for them. Or am I the first one to ask this year?

ok yeah I believe you need topbar for ducky

I already have top bar

No, I made the Rubber Ducky on sites where I don't have the Topbar

9:36 PM
hm
I got the hat just after discarding a draft after getting top bar on linguistics

Chance coincidence. This makes guessing the triggers for some hats so hard.

so... pretty sure duck doesn't have to do with, uh, discarding drafts

Yes, this is well-tested by users trying it out on virgin sites where they didn't have any other activity before.

what else could it have? I got it on linguistics, and all I've done is ask a question and get 2 answers (I upvoted one)
oh yep just got it on ppcg

but... it's surely been way over an hour and still no duck

10:23 PM
quack

@EriktheOutgolfer any luck now?

just checked... no

darn

@EriktheOutgolfer it took me (on a couple sites) a few hours.

I don't think it should take over an hour...
maybe you did something else?

10:25 PM
I know that one site took 3ish hours for me.
Most took about an hour
