12:34 AM
nothing to see here

@ArtOfCode Okay; fine by me ;-)

:)

2 hours later…
2:12 AM
@ArtOfCode you deleted a comment calling for a post to be reopened...

oh well

so I assume the other post was mod deleted then and we're not supposed to discuss it?

other post?

the post I brought up as needing a relook at

shrug not a math mod, can't see what happened to it

2:19 AM
@ArtOfCode then why was the request to reopen it deleted?
or was that someone else

because it was in the middle of the messages I nuked and I didn't notice it
so it got thrown in the trash along with them

2:45 AM
Glad to see you hear, I presume, Alexander?

good evening

4 hours later…
7:14 AM
@ArtOfCode Can you just retrieve that one comment and paste it here again?

@amWhy Sorry, I couldn't be online

10:39 AM
@amWhy @Did @MikeMiller @AndrésE.Caicedo @user21820 any chance of some feedback what's up here: math.stackexchange.com/questions/2997340 ?

1 hour later…
11:43 AM
@amWhy @user21820, @JoséCarlosSantos $\{D1, D2, \ldots D12\}\setminus \{D3\}$ has been deleted. Only D3 remains, needing one more delete vote.

12:02 PM
@AlexanderGruber I actually meant to say that I was glad to see you here. Sorry about the speed-typing/carelessness. (But I am also glad to know that you hear!)
@XanderHenderson Deleted. Unpinning from the side bar.
@XanderHenderson Up for deletion.

1:04 PM
@RobertFrost You are speculating about others' conjectures; it's an unsolved problem yet you want to know "what if it's true"... Lets first work on whether it is true. Keep the cart behind the horse, so to speak. I'm not convinced, in your post, that you have an adequate understanding of the conjectures you're eager to draw conclusions from.

@amWhy I've casted the missing delete vote for D3.

@JoséCarlosSantos Thanks!

1 hour later…
2:18 PM
@amWhy Ah that makes sense. You've misunderstood the question. I don't want to know if it the open problem is true. The question of whether a limit can be established to the known sequence of polynomials doesn't require any decision or judgement in relation to the known open problem itself, of whether the Fueter–Pólya sequence is itself unique. I'm asking something different.

@RobertFrost Did I misunderstand the question, or did you fail to communicate the question well enough?
Of course both may be true simultaneously.

@amWhy I think the question is clear, but it hasn't been closed for being unclear.
It's been closed for not being maths

@RobertFrost I don't think the question is clear. I also don't think you have an adequate understanding of the conjectures you refer to in your post. In that sense, it could have been voted close as "unclear", but just as appropriately "not about math as described in the help center" because you overspeculate and try to ask users to convince you you and your speculations about conjectures is correct, when you don't understand the conjectures.

2:45 PM
@CarlMummert Your answer to this meta question is spot on!

3:01 PM
@RobertFrost I'll speak no more with you about your post, as you seem to want to blame others who do comment, for merely misunderstanding you.

3:51 PM
Is 1h 30 in the reopen queue a reasonable time before deletion? I just wonder if we might be a little hasty to get rid of content others may be interested in. @Did, @JoséCarlosSantos, @AndrésE.Caicedo, @user21820 @amWhy chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/47830226#47830226

@RobertFrost SE is designed so that question which earn a net score of -3 or lower are, after closure, immediately available for deletion. That is by design. There is no standard to wait longer, on questions with a net score of $\leq -3$, whether on hold, or closed. That is the state at which SE sanctions and permits voters to vote to delete. That's not true of a question with mixed results, say a net zero, or net -1 score. The system currently works despite your radical insistence
3
...that nothing should be deleted, just upvoted and downvoted. That is so contrary to SE's design and intent.
2
@RobertFrost You may not like what I report above; but don't pretend the "system was designed for only upvotes and downvotes to determine the fate of questions/answers."

can we not bash each other

4:08 PM
I'll say no more, @ArtOfCode, but the one sentence you may object to that I ascribe to RF can be documented in at least a half-dozen locations. I am simply reporting the users stated position.

eh, that's probably true, but there are ways of saying it :P

@ArtOfCode :P

4:39 PM
@amWhy I thought you weren't going to say any more? The net score was -2 I think, but I ask about hasty deletion after being added to the reopen queue. The site's algorithms permit many things. That doesn't mean every user action the site permits is beyond being reconsidered. You accuse me of blaming somebody for something which I find confusing. I'm just calmly asking in a friendly manner, if an act might have been hasty.
I could have asked what's reasonable on Meta but I've come directly to the actors instead. You will find I am entirely open to some reasonable justification - this is as much about the possibility I may need to act differently as it is about others.
But at the moment, from my perspective it looks like a great question was removed hastily based on some misconception.

The questions 3020024: $f$ is T periodic and $f(x) + f'(x) \ge 0 \Rightarrow f(x) \ge 0$ and 1035092: Periodic function such that $f(x)+f'(x)\geq 0$ is non-negative. seems as duplicates to me. I wonder whether in this instance it would make sense to close the older as the duplicate of the newer question.
The question posted today is less likely to get closed based on lack of context. (The OP has shown some attempt.) And the questions could perhaps also be merged, since the older question some nice answers. I will add a ping for @Did regarding this pair of questions, since he is one of the answerers on the older post.

2 hours later…
8:34 PM
@MartinSleziak I voted to close the older as a dupe of the newer. I think that's a good idea. Given the older question's good answers,
...I'd suggest asking the mods to merge the two once one is closed as a dupe of the other.

I'll wait a bit to see whether it gets closed (and whether somebody raises some objection). Later I can flag for merging - well, unless somebody does that before me.

9:58 PM
I've decided to join the crusade of answers. I'm working on the questions given by the search of, say, "[group-theory] answers:0 presentation" or something similar. You're all invited to join me in the chatroom. I could do with some help :)

10:50 PM
@Shaun I almost forgot about it. I might too!

@XanderHenderson TGIF? Or not yet? (Are you teaching a late afternoon Friday class again this semester?)

I am in class right now. Shh! :P

11:29 PM
Some PSQs: 1, 2, 3

@JoséCarlosSantos Voted to close all 3

@Holo Thanks.
