By golly, I need new mouse pads.
Just ordered a couple of SteelSeries QcK pads (one small, one medium), and a Sony MRW-S1 SD card reader (because Stolas only has a microSD card slot and not a full-size SD card slot).
I miss having a built-in full-size SD card slot on my main laptop. A compact SD card reader that plugs straight into a USB port and supports UHS-II is the next best thing.
Now I can leave the multi-card media reader at home and just keep the Sony card reader in my bag.
The mouse pad at the Astaroth station (Razer Kabuto) is also overdue for replacement, but limited desk area means very limited options. I'm hoping to get a Corsair MM1000 to match my Dark Core, but I need a larger desk...
The two QcK pads are going to be used elsewhere.

bleh
apparently ikea sells NFC drawer locks
they sound fun but they don't sell it online or at my 'local' ikea

@bwDraco ehm, you're talking write, not read
02:39
TIL when a lithium-ion cell fails due to overdischarge or reverse charging, galvanic corrosion is involved.
(bigclivedotcom)
@Bob what was your home network setup again?
And that's how these cells get internally shorted.
03:00
(we're talking home networks on the TCR replacement and your network seems similar to what cole wants)

@JourneymanGeek er-x router, two wired unifi aps, managed switch, guest wlan on guest vlan, isolated vlan for shared use with others
04:12
@Bob how do you test speeds between ports ?
hack2hell was asking about that
stick boxen with iperf on two bridged switches and just run?
(getting a pair of NUCs should be trivial)
Bob
Bob
04:30
@JourneymanGeek yea, skip the switches though
... I meant ports
lol
I need to replace the power strip there
its too small and falling apart
(since I have 2 linux NUC type machines, and hopefully their NICs can handle it. They're probably realtek tho ._.)
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek oh. on that case you might be testing the speed of the cpu
software bridges are wonky
@Bob oh, I can probably monitor the cpu load too
and ya, I want to see how wonky it is
and how it compares to a few other setups (using the ports on the AP, using a proper switch...)
I have a spare (unmanaged) gigabit capable switch
I guess a big thing is that my network isn't struggling with my backups, so its already performing better than my asus
05:41
also ugh
I need to throw all my notes into something more usable
and Idk how I should do it still
cause I quite literally ... did it the right way and read through the settings file most of the time, then monkeypunched stuff until they worked
06:09
TIL the guts of an NiMH cell can spontaneously combust in air.
06:24
I need a better theme.
apparently the one I use dosen't show codeblocks
06:37
right....
its really long
07:22
I'm like a prisoner in Plato's Cave, seeing only the shade you throw on the wall.

@bwDraco youtube.com/channel/UC0pBauLp63yzf6sVdEOIUbA This guy does a lot of work with 18650s and ends up building a DIY powerwall out of them.
07:37
I am trying to set up my windows 10 machine as a router
I have set up the network, so Windows should be sharing the internet connection through an ad hoc network
so I have enabled "internet sharing"
do I need to set up a dhcp server, or does "internet sharing" supposedly handle that?
ICS should include a DHCP server
its been years since I had to do that
I didn't do it wirelessly tho
also when I did it ... and that was XP era, it only let you use 192.168.1.x as a IP range
are you having any specific issues? ._.
well, nothing seems to want to connect
hm
would help to be more precise
my phone just sits there with the spinning wheel of death next to the connection
"spinning wheel of death" ?
ah. I never did ICS with wireless.
07:42
it never fully connects
I know that it is communicating with my computer though
the dhcp script shows dhcp requests
feels like there's missing information ._.
ok. android or apple?
If its apple I can't really help ;p
07:45
apple phone
I don't have an apple device on hand
Wireshark it.
is there a way to check if you have an ip address?
on the phone?
07:45
you can set a manual ip
eh
not a good idea for wireless.
unless its an unsecured connection
you can see the ip
which is a terrible idea
a manual IP ... dosen't necessarily mean there's a connection
but that is only once you are connected

@XKCD This, so much this.

3 hours later…
12:11
@DavidPostill yup, the one out two weeks ago.
12:26
@Bob ^^ Pitot tubes and dumb pilots strike again? Is this an Air France repeat? :(
My exam today went well
That's not something which usually happens
:)
@rahuldottech Good to hear.
I've got tests tomorrow too.
What a coincidence.
13:20
@Nick good luck

Turns out the small QcK mouse pad is just the right size.
That old Roccat Sense mouse pad (used at one of my other computer stations) is just too large and it's really filthy so I really want to throw it out...

The world has lost a superhero.
RIP Stan Lee.

> marking the first crash involving the Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. The "black box" data recorder from the jet shows its airspeed indicator malfunctioned on its last four flights, investigators said Monday.
wut
Are they flying aircraft deemed to be unsafe? :/
Also
Another bit came out!! \o/
@djsmiley2k flying with one, two, sometimes dozens of minor maintenance issues while still being ultimately deemed "airworthy" by some definition is a very common cost-saving tactic for cheap airlines, especially in poorer countries
Yikes.
they often field aircraft with a broken APU
like, one of its literal turbines just totally busted
there's less regulation about that sort of thing in poorer countries, too
the developed world generally has more stringent standards airlines are required to follow
@djsmiley2k excelsior...
@AaronHall ??
20:05
arigj there's ewven more stuff in my gum DS:
20:37
and ... urgh it hurts :(
@djsmiley2k fuck
20:55
Ow.
21:22
!!caaaat
@djsmiley2k You need a better dentist
lol
woo it's out
maybe this'll finally b e it
and it can heal properly
that badboy was spiky.
So @djsmiley2k makes medical history. Has a tooth removed. Then bits of tooth left behind travel to his finger and somehow get extruded from his finger tip ...
21:43
@noitsbecky I dunno, it's quite normal appently
21:57
@djsmiley2k Only if your dentist doesn't x-ray the socket to see if he has done his/her job properly.
hmmm
well I had 2 xrays in the previous two weeks
can many can i safely have
errr 3
So complain. Tooth fragments should clearly show up if the x-rays are done correctly.
This was before the extraction

1 hour later…
Wow... that is definitely a feature I never knew I needed. ;)

Is anyone else having syncing issues with gmail on Android?
Latest email on my phone is from 16:30.
Oh, it was the VPN acting up.
