8:17 AM
@Green haven't played 0.17 yet - got an 0.16 game running with a friend though (alas the map is 0.15, so no cliffs)

9:05 AM
I finally fixed the bug that was driving me nuts yesterday; and indeed it was a two-fold bug

2 hours later…
11:00 AM
@dot_Sp0T "YK" probably means "you know". As far as I know "jk" would be the internet slang for "joke".

11:30 AM
@Secespitus Well, it only drives home my point :D

@dot_Sp0T Absolutely

Are you hear to keep company with me? I'm at work and can't really think properly

@dot_Sp0T You are not alone with that problem :D

Currently the code my senior programmer writes is killing me; and I can't argue against him because the points he brings up are always valid: He is senior to me and has more experience in the field; the project is under time-pressure, so writing code and then improving is a better maxime than overplanning things; He knows more about the technology and codebase because I only took up writing C# some 4 months ago and he 's been working on the project for close to a year soon
but goddamnit

At least you are writing code. I am trying to install software. And different versions of different libraries coupled with the inability to do anything on the system due to missing permissions is... difficult...

11:40 AM
sounds like fun to me
all limitations are external and clear
for me it's self-imposed stuff which drives me crazy

Well, but you can do something against internal stuff. With external stuff you are simply helpless.

which means there is nothing you can do to speed up a process, which means you don't have to overthink or scrutinize, you just do :D

Yeah, but I like thinking.

Me too, but not when someone is constantly telling me that I'm overthinking or whatnot
"Yes, this is ugly, but it works doesn't it? We can change it when we need it again"

I present to you: getting permissions.
"I need to be able to do stuff so that the project can proceed."
"No."
"But-"
"No!"

11:49 AM
oooh, that is best permission management; when they do not want to provide reasons you can pester them all day without breaking the contract you are hired by
I requested admin permissions on my work machine, did not get them, so I asked that they come over and install the stuff I need to do my work; so they came over (resp sent the azubi), he didn't get along with me having switched the keyboard layout to US english (and the fact that the login screen would revert to CH german on restart, etc.) so he eventually just gave me admin rights

That sounds lovely. In such a case I simply wouldn't get anything.

12:05 PM
i hate it

You hate getting permissions you need?

i hate everything

That's always a good standpoint

12:25 PM
While we're talking about less-than-optimal things: There's a hair on my right shoulder and I can't pull it with my fingers, I also cannot ask anyone else to pull that hair because I am at the office and that would definitely blur work/life boundaries to an extent that I do not judge any of my current co-workers being comfortable with

That is indeed less-than-optimal and I would encourage you not to ask your co-workers for help in this instance if you want them to stay your co-workers.
So here's some mental support: "You can do it!"

I can't

You have to believe in yourself.

it's too short and I have no nails
which means I'd need pincers
and they're at home in the mirror above the sink because I cleaned out my pencil case
I also really need a new cool species along the lines of the Boozerat

See, there's your problem: stop cleaning out stuff. You are just losing important things.

12:34 PM
don't tell me, my parents keep insisting

@dot_Sp0T That was a fun series of questions.

the bane of living at home
the boozerat lived and died with it's unique defensive system :/
while I tried to pick up on it with the BOB it really didn't get the same traction because the BOB was more 'normal'

12:51 PM
I was thinking about adding a crustacean, but not yet sure where the funny factor comes in
hmmm, crustaceans that taste like pork?
nah

1:03 PM
Hello @HDE226868

@dot_Sp0T Morning.

1:14 PM
@HDE226868 it's later afternoon, but I take everything I can

1:45 PM
Hey yall

1:58 PM
Hey yallone

2:27 PM
Happy timezone!

@Green Good timezone to you, too.

@Secespitus Thanks! It is a beautiful day!

Happy timezone.

@Green You seem to be in a pretty good mood. Something nice happened?

@Secespitus I'm pretty happy with how my "why buy future tech" question is going. The two close votes are a bit of a mystery but I'm not super worried.

2:34 PM
@Green Well, you got someone who explained their reasoning. It's a nice question - and a nice answer.

@Secespitus As I think about it, this question is another approach to the Three Books series I did from a few months back. Hah! I'm being sneaky!

@Green That one caused a few meta discussions if I remember correctly

@Secespitus AHAHHA!! Yeah, it was so glorious!
Granted, the questions do ask for different things. Three Books was generative, give me a list. Buy Tech is just "do you buy?"

2 hours later…
5:07 PM
@Renan, thank you for starting the bounty on my 27 suns question! Now I have 2 good answers!

5:21 PM
Bounties are good, and if you use them on your own question they can often pay for themselves, so to speak.

@James, I'd like to ask your opinion on something.
Which is better/cooler? (1): An elephant made of onyx that has a flamethrower trunk OR (2) an elephant made of emerald that shoots lightning out of its trunk?

@FoxElemental I am predisposed to fire so I'd have to go with onyx
Lightning is always awesome though.
Don't think you can go wrong with either.
Heck, use both.

Mmkay. I like fire for the comedic effect, lightning for defense

What's the context, what are these elephants for?

. . . . . Worldbuilding . . .?

5:26 PM
Right but are they...enemies or traps in a temple or what?

Uh, no. They're just supposed to be, um, pretty wildlife that have awesome powers, why?
I think everyone here likes worldDestruction more than WorldBuilding. . . I saw a comment on how to kill a tree that said "Nuke it! Only way to make sure!"

Context is important to getting the best answer around here. For example if you had told me they were temple guardians in a jungle I would have gone with emerald and lightning
Emerald seems more likely in a jungle...oooh or jade elephants that spew poison.

Nnno. I'm trying to chose between the fire one for a fire plane and the emerald one for the earth plane
@James Oh wait that's genius too
Oh, now I'm back to three choices . . ..

happy to help. for what its worth poison makes more sense to me on an earth plane than lightning. I usually think of lightning as part of an air plane and thus opposite earth.

hmm. So now I have to choose between flamethrower onyx elephant and poisonspitting jade elephant

5:32 PM
## F ##
E – + – A
## W ##

Or better yet, a fire elephant that is made of wood and burns with eternal flame!

You could pick jade or emerald really
green = earth

So four options . . .

Sapphire Lightning elephant

I come to you with 2 and walk away with 5

5:33 PM
Ruby fire elephant

or 6
Not helping

....hmm...wait. Sapphire makes more sense for water.
Diamond for air. definitely diamond.

Ice Plane . . . OML you're opening up all 6 planes
No diamond for Light . . . but the Light plane is evil
so Yes, diamond for Air
Ilvine elephants . . . no, doesn't make sense. Elephants are too heavy

You could also add 8 planes with an intermediary between the four cardinal elements

8? 6 is much more reasonable
no, elephant=weight=nature=earth=jade/emerald elephant with poison

5:36 PM
Ice between Air and Water, Steam...or something between fire and air, poison between earth and water and lava between earth and fire.

Steam? No, no. Steam burns in Azmodea, freezes in Aemilthrim . . . maybe air? But Ilvea isn't wet
ugh
No, I'm going . . . jade poison
Whew
problem solved

Handy reference from the dnd 5e handbook.

Not the way I picture it . . . more like overlapping alternate universes
But Jade poison helps

I can see them stacked on top of each other tood
@FoxElemental Happy to assist and confuse. :D

Thank you.
I'll contact you when I'm in a rut on whether my whether my penguin should be ice/light/earth/air, but first I have to come up w/options
Oh no
I just had a revalation
What about a jade elephant that spews acid? Say ClFl3?
No, I think I can come up with a nice poison
Well then, bye
*ominous tones* for now

6:04 PM
@James if you had a call with a recruiter scheduled for a specific time and they don't call you at all, what would you conclude from that? This is also the second scheduled call with this particular recruiter? The first call didn't happen either because of problems at the airport.

6:19 PM
@Green Do you have a number to call them? I guess you could conclude that either A they aren't all that interested in recruiting you, or B they aren't very organized. B is less sad than A, so probably that one.

@AndyD273 I don't have a number for them. There might have been some timezone translation errors too but even that option has closed. I think it's option B. Option A doesn't even make sense.
It just boggles my mind that the first impression phone call would be handled so poorly.

Might not be someone you want to be recruited by

@AndyD273 I'm willing to reserve judgment on the company itself but I think I'm done with this particular recruiter.

6:43 PM
@AndyD273 thanks for talking that out. I wasn't sure what I was going to do about it.

1 hour later…
8:11 PM
@Green Eh. Hard to say. Probably still worth meeting them...what they have to offer you is frankly more important than how good they are with stuff like that...
If they have good jobs to submit you for it can be worth the annoyance of them sucking.

@James Agreed. I'm letting myself cool down before I get back to her. I've expressed my displeasure already. No need to keep that wound open and dump cargo freighters of salt into it.

@Green Yeah, good call.

. . . Do cargo freighters carry salt?

@HDE226868 Why couldn't they carry salt?

shrug I'm not sure.
I have an image in my head of an enormous saltshaker crossing the Atlantic.

8:16 PM
@HDE226868 Most places its probably cheaper to make it locally

@HDE226868 Are you talking about raw salt or packaged for sale stuff?

mine it, get it from sea water, etc

@James Any sort of salt.

I worked in a salt plant for a couple years after high school

(I love creative imagery gets turned into "Well, how would that work exactly?" on WB.)
@AndyD273 Too bad that was in high school. If you worked there at a more advanced age, you could be a salty old man but still be nice to people.

8:20 PM
@HDE226868 I would assume that say, grilling salt slabs that are Himalayan salt would be shipped, but it could just be a clever name and I am gullible.

@Green Oh, I got plenty salty. I was on the cleaning crew, and when we had to clean out the evaporator I could stand my pants up on their own at the end of the day.
The potash plant was worse than the salt plant though. The air in there was tangy.
@James That's probably a good point

@AndyD273 Isn't potash an inhallant hazard?

@Green Probably. It is radioactive (slightly). We had masks and glasses and hardhats, but a little would always leak through. Just a bit
@James It says that it is from Pakistan, so that would be shipped. But for non special salt it's probably silly to load it on a ship and sail it across a giant salt solution

@AndyD273 The irony is thick with this one.

Hi @AnneDaunted. How's it going?

8:30 PM
@AndyD273 ah, the leaks are to be expected.
@AnneDaunted Hi!

We have some huge salt deposits in Michigan. There is a salt mine under Detroit that is deeper than the Empire State building is tall, and is almost 200,000 acres. The plant I worked at didn't mine, it just injected hot water and then extracted the salt and potash from the solution.
Hmm, I wonder if it will someday turn into a sinkhole and eat the plant... that would be something to see

@AndyD273 Sure hope someone has a drone up in the air when it goes.

@AndyD273 With popcorn.

@AndyD273 I read "plant" as "planet" for a second and got really concerned.

@HDE226868 That would also be something to see
From somewhere very far away

8:38 PM
@AndyD273 Ideally, on a different planet.

@HDE226868 A separate solar system would probably be a safer viewing venue if something is eating a planet.

@James I once had a story seed idea, where a starship comes to a new system, and sees this small planetoid with a really weird orbit. So they get close and find out it's really a moon going around a black hole with the same mass as the planet that it ate... I just have no idea how to actually turn it into a story.

@AndyD273 Yeah that's a setting not a story.

Right. and it probably will stay that way until I can figure out a plot to put in it

You could have a small, about to die group of refugees from the consumed planet on the moon.
They could be super smart aliens whose technology caused the destruction of their planet
A few were able to flee or were on the moonbase when it happened
But its not a self sustaining base and they are almost out of resources.
Then, enter: Your starship

8:55 PM
Its a start. Maybe I can try to develop it some with a future story go round

We've been playing my DnD campaign, I've come up with more story content since feb than in the last few years.

2 hours later…
11:03 PM
@HDE226868 Isn't that what every Worldbuilder thinks about? Either planning how to prevent it or planning to do so?
