Yeah, I think I've looked in there (or at least at the message showing in "other rooms" in the sidebar) at least 5 times, just today. That's just looking for SD messages that weren't here in CHQ, not for info which is normally there. Now that I think more on it, if I include glancing at the Charcoal Test item in the sideboard for expected/missing SD messages, then it's probably well over 5 times today.

FWIW when I was setting up swiftpi today, I noticed a message in the log that said something along the lines of 'Unrecognized response: "You can perform this action again in 1 second"'.

I have no idea whether or not this was correlated to us dropping messages; I was working on other things and didn't pay much attention to it.

But maybe detection of chat throttling could be broken?

I think that's the API throttling but don't take my word for it

@tripleee It looks like that error comes from ChatExchange, which does not properly handle throttling of 1 second due to the regex only matching "second"

That doesn't explain the problem though, and it seems 1-second throttling doesn't normally happen as Smokey probably waits a minimum of that long between messages anyway

The log entry doesn't seem to be correlated with a dropped message, I can't find another similar log entry for either of my instances (I guess Smokey tries to wait at least a second between messages), and CE recovers gracefully from an unknown response by waiting 5 seconds and retrying

The #modabuse route (note down current rep, delete post, wait for rep calculation, check difference, undelete post) won't work because 1) they'll keep reputation for posts older than 60 days with a score of 3+ and 2) upvotes on other posts (ignored because of the rep cap) will fill in the gap, messing up your calculation.
