I just saw something very weird. academia.stackexchange.com/users/91603/d-hutchinson?tab=profile this user is suspended network wide until May 15 '46 at 17:46. The user must have done something truly bad to be suspended for 28 years? Am I seeing it wrong? Or it's for real?

@scaaahu That’s for real, though I am not at liberty to divulge the reasons.

@Wrzlprmft are you a post-doc, currently?

@JalapenoNachos yes

8:12 AM
ah, nice :)

Why are you asking?

8:36 AM
do you like it?
@scaaahu are you a post-doc, too?

@JalapenoNachos No, I am retired.

Oh, nice!
I don't like probability @Wrzlprmft
but many interviewers seem to emphasize probability questions

8:55 AM
@JalapenoNachos Yes, but that’s probably less due to the category of my position than due to the specific group, location and topic.

9:06 AM
@Wrzlprmft nice :)
do you code much?
my friend has been struggling to find a coding job
it's strange, because I always hear that coders can find jobs easily

@Wrzlprmft If I understand it correctly, above a certain level of misbehaviour, the length of the ban, from 10 years to the eternity, depends only on the mood of the CM who handles the ban. Is it like that?

11:45 AM
@JalapenoNachos I used to. My last paper is about a scientific software I worked on for more than a year. Right now, I do pen-and-paper theory, but that will likely change soon.
@JalapenoNachos Wild guess: The problem is your friend, not the kind of job they are looking for.
@MassimoOrtolano I assume so as well. It’s the kind of suspension that essentially says: We do not ever want to see you again.

@Wrzlprmft nice - good luck!
@Wrzlprmft probably. He's very picky about the culture that he wants to land up in, for coding, and I think that it shows in his interviews, and it hurts him.
