4:45 AM
@JohnRennie good morning that's the syllabi buruniv.ac.in/Downloads/Syllabus/Syllabus_BSCPHYS_2014-2015.pdf

28 pages! It'll take me a few minutes to read :-)

@JohnRennie professor see the first and second semester please. That's what I wanna settle up.

They recommend Spiegel, Vector Analysis

@JohnRennie well let me take some time and explain in which condition is am
@JohnRennie I have given class 12 exam results aren't out yet. As you know I am not so ready for jee-like exams

A quick Google found Spiegel online, though I very much doubt that's a legal download :-)
What are the class 12 exams? What age do you sit them?

4:57 AM
@JohnRennie so I wanna get into a university where attendance doesn't matter and sit back along with jee questions as well as the course (at least to get 55%) and if I qualify exams like nest next year I'll a get a good college.
@JohnRennie 12 the syllabus. Equivalent jee syllabus
@JohnRennie at age of 17 or 18 but the questions are cram-type.

So these are the last exams you'd do at school? And they're a test of whether you can go on to university?

@JohnRennie yes.. But the jee-like exams gets you to a good research Institute

So you're thinking you'll prepare for the JEE over the next year and do the exam in 2019?

@JohnRennie yes. Along with first year bs course whose syllabi I have given
So should I go for it?

I'm really not in a position to advise you. I don't know enough about how the Indian educational system works.

5:06 AM
@JohnRennie if you were asked the same for UK.?

The UK is completely different. In the UK there are lots of university courses available so pretty much anyone who wants to go to university can go.
In India there is tremendous competition for places.

@JohnRennie OK bye see you later.

Bye.

8:08 AM
@JohnRennie hi
@JohnRennie professor, does multivariable calculus and vector calculus mean the same subject?

@user187604 no
Multivariate calculus involves functions of more than one variable.

@JohnRennie the syllabus I have given you is that multivariable calculus or vector calculus?

@user187604 vector calculus. I can't see any mention of multivariate calculus in the syllabus.

@JohnRennie thanks. If I need can I further post questions from this section in problem Solving Strategies?

Well the PSS room is for getting help with questions, so if you need help solving a question then ask there. People do post more general chatter, and if you want advice on courses I guess it would be worth posting there simply because so many Indian students use that room.

8:19 AM
@JohnRennie thanks.

Is there actually some distinction between and on Physics Meta?
If no, they probably should be synonymized. (For example, on Mathematics Meta (tex) and (latex) are synonyms of (mathjax) (which is the master tag).
If yes, then the usage should probably explained in the tag-info. (In which case I apologize for the confusion I caused - when I made the suggested edit to the tag-info for tex I was under the impression that it is for questions about MathJax.)

is there any way to get a list of all the comments made by a user in a chat room?

To convert x+iy to x-iy can I just multiply the imaginary pat by -1 provided I have an expression equal to this in the form of A+iB
Pls answer I need it urgently
@Loong will be hppy if u answer

@skull I doubt it. BTW aren't there slightly more suitable rooms for this type of question? Such as chat feedback?

@MartinSleziak Do u know complex numbers?Pls answer..

Thanks @MartinSleziak I knew you would know if it was possible.

2:13 PM
?
@skull can u answer this
?

What do you think? @gateprep

I think it will work

Why?

Because that is what has changed in the expression others are intact..
Am I correct?

Is a+bi = a–bi

2:16 PM
No a+ib=a-(-ib)..It can be written in this way...

Think about it.

infact a-i(-b) also..
Pls expalin if I am wrong
I might have serious misconception about it

Try the math room please :-)

@skull
I will but complex number is imp in phy as well
@loong are u thorough with chemical thermodynamics?
specially maxwell's equation and stuff

what's with the mod fest?
did someone play with flags yet again?

@Secret your comment got flagged

the one deleted by Acuriousmind?

I flagged the next one

flags!11

No, the post from Sam
2 mins ago, by Secret
9 hours ago, by Slereah
You don't want to end up like Secret, drawing awful nonsense diagrams

4:20 PM
once I saw that 2 posts were deleted. I click on your link and saw innapropriate stuff so I flagged but no action has been done so far

what's offensive about that?
I see nothing offensive about that

@Secret pretty sure slereah is just poking fun at you.
y'all need to chill

@Eulb he is, and I know, hence the "heh"
@JohnRennie I honestly don't found anything offensive about that comment. I have no idea what the flaggers are thinking

the same thing they always think lol

Sid
...Why was that flagged?

4:24 PM
this is soooooo strange

o.o

22 messages moved from The h Bar

You rang?
does the system automatically invite users when messages are moved? @ACuriousMind

@skull Yeah, it does

ok

4:30 PM
someone invited me here?
@ACuriousMind I do not remember which question (which post) it was.
that was maybe 2 weeks ago

This is sooooooooooooooo meta, h bar is so strange recently

wait, I think I actually wrote "my comment got deleted for no reason" , in the next comment, if I remember well. so i might be able to find it

@ofhe_iAgDWolbuuTZO_5X1L6uuwfVP The system automatically invites all users whose messages are moved to a different room. I moved the messages because there's a pinned message in the h bar that flagging conversations should take place here. You don't need to continue the comment conversation here, that's just confusing :P

Nice username: @ofhe_iAgDWolbuuTZO_5X1L6uuwfVP

5:18 PM
thanks @skull, it was pseudorandomly generated with the linux kernel and then castrated to fit into PSE rules
I have a question. Can admins check out past nicknames of anyone?
I have used 2 other nicknames in the past
this is my 3rd

well, your user number doesn't change, so they could track people that way

or by IP, im not interested in getting tracked or not. i only wonder about the usernames people choose
are they recoverable

Sure, if I look up all previous messages my this user number; I'll see your previous usernames.
Not that I care.

Related post on Meta Stack Exchange: Make the “past names” list public info for 30 days after changing your name. (The feature request is marked status declined. There are some workarounds that sometimes work.)
Although in chat it seems to work a bit differently than on the main. (And messages posted under the previous username are indeed displayed with the old username.)

A: Who can see the "past names" field in user profiles?

Lorem Ipsum Who can see other users' past names? Is it only moderators? I don't see this on your profile on SO or MSO where I'm a regular user, but I can see it for a different user on Gardening & Landscaping, where I'm a moderator. So your guess is correct: only moderators & devs can view this info. H...
