What is the deal with people answering ancient questions that already have an accepted answer anyway?

@angarg12 Many newcomers enter the site through a Google search into an old question. After reading an old post for the first time on the site, it wouldn't be unusual to want to answer.

@angarg12 I once wrote an answer to a 2 year old question on Movies & TV and ended up replacing the accepted answer.

I tried using a custom moderator flag, but it was denied as "Use this only for questions requiring moderator attention"

I'm not able to mark it as a duplicate myself, since the question was closed as opinion-based
