@YannisRizos - Jordan has been going through various chat rooms complaining about his ban to various people that have nothing to do with it. Someone asked him if he was just complaining at random sites ("shotgun approach" I think they said) and he agreed.

@Jordan Furthermore, please note that Stack Exchange is not a help / support forum, but a Q&A site. There are certain basic guidelines that you are required to follow, after all you are asking people to volunteer their time for free to help you learn. Your behaviour insofar is abusive to both communities.

@YannisRizos - So it turns out we aren't the only elitist bitches. (Though in fact those other elitist bitches aren't nearly as cool as we are).

@psr The first programming principle I learned was RTFM. It amazes me how many people just fail to read the absolutely simplistic guidelines... If that makes me an elitist bitch, I'll wear that badge with honour...
@psr I somehow suspected he did things at random ;)

@Rachel I know... And a good think you did, however A vs B questions are mostly not constructive. It would be preferable to present an actual scenario where you are thinking of applying A or B. Anyways, tequila time, bye ;)
It's now after tequila time, so I'm off to bed ;) Bye...

New badge proposal - elitist bitch?

@Yannis I tried to ask the questions elsewhere and got no help, they were quite on topic since they were programming related.
@psr sure you can be an elitist bitch all you want

@Rachel He would have most definitely qualified for the new badge suggested by psr a few lines down this chat (though I'd agree he was very active).

@AnnaLear @SteveJackson @YannisRizos @gnat @Jae Thanks guys, appreciate it. :)

@Jordan And until you actually follow the guidelines and stop asking crap questions, there's no chance you'll get any help.

Q: What do you think about source code engrish?

Andrei GI've been a software developer for 4 years in this company, and I've been in close contact with a lot of non-native English speakers. I'm from Eastern Europe, some of the people I work with are Americans by birth, but most of my colleagues are from China, India, Pakistan, Taiwan, Japan. It doesn'...

This needs one more reopen vote... I'm not convinced it's on topic, good chance to prove me wrong ;P

11:27 AM
@YannisRizos Regarding engrish, though the question may seem to be off-topic he does have a valid point. Comments such as "time get value increased" puts you in a bother whether value increases with time or time increases with value. "Rule 67
Treat English as Just Another Programming Language". Somebody may help this poor guy who is fighting cross-cultural understanding, which in itself is a big topic.

hello everyone!

1:19 PM
@Pierre303 Hello

@Ubermensch: hi Uber

Hi Pierre (Hope I can call you by the name Pierre) and thanks for taking the time to chat.

@Ubermensch: yes of course, that is my first name ;)
However it is not clear to me if Uber is a firstname or not.
I think it's not
"a state or action involving increased elevation or quantity in the physical sense, or superiority or excess in the abstract"

@Pierre303 Right now, i am reading the book Critical Thinking Tools

You have a reference for me?
Critical Thinking is hard. We all want to believe in extraordinary stuff ;)

1:25 PM
No! I just wanted to ask about the book Critical Thinking Tools by Richard Paul, Linda Elder -
You are right. Critical Thinking(CT) is extremely hard. Going by the technique, for more complex issues we need to have better depths in reasoning.
I am thinking of mapping cognitive bias and critical thinking. Simply, if somebody is sure that they have a cognitive bias (that itself takes some cognition), then there would be some steps in CT that could help overcome the bias.
Since CT is too generalized, I think dealing it at the cognitive bias level would be a better option. Thanks for the link. would go through it today

Did you plan to buy the book?

Secondly, I am interested in AI and I think evaluating a machine to handle a particular type of cognitive bias would make it more intelligent.

It is amazing how much of your behavior is not really controlled by your will

I am reading the book. I just hired it from my friend's online library account.
Is CT popular particularly among the elitist sections?

Does it deserve it's 50€ price ?

1:31 PM
And CT would make a real great politician.

I'm reading a book on social psychology right now, and right now I'm in a chapter on persuation & attitude. Amazing stuff.

As so far its good. Since I have just read CT in pieces, it deserves the price when taken in totality.

Ok, will buy it then

If you want, then I would send you a table of contents or some excerpts from the book.
Else, you may follow this link books.google.co.in/…
To be honest, I am reading it for free.

150 pages for 50€...

1:36 PM
Since you are going to buy it, its better you could have a look at the Google page since the book is comprehensive but I amn't sure at the expert level

My CT tells me I will check it on google instead ;);

Its 384 pages and this is the amazon link. amazon.com/Critical-Thinking-Taking-Professional-Personal/dp/…
Got some good reviews and you are right with your CT.
So coming back to the original discussion, I am thinking of mapping Cognitive Biases(CB) to CT. What's your take on it? Also, is CT popular? When I talk of it, people think I am getting a bit insane:)

2:15 PM
@YannisRizos Hey

Critical Thinking is not popular enough, so I think it would be valuable to write an article on it! Especially if you focus on software development

2:35 PM
@Pierre303 Connecting CT with CB. Is it worth?

3:02 PM
@Pierre303 Bye for today

3:14 PM
@Ubermensch: I think it would be better to separate them both and create 2 different articles
