@Windows3.1 I'm new-ish to it, I recently migrated to linux after wanting to for a long time. I was big into windows desktop modding (software side, not hardware) but that's a lot easier on linux with DEs and WMs

I'm big into graphic and UI design, but I love comp sci too and it's been too long since I did much with it, so I'm trying to get reengaged with it, esp since I may not go to college where it's easy to just enroll in a course

For comp-sci though, there's practically no distinction, unless you want to learn different architectures and init methods

but for programming and computer theory, there's no difference

@JourneymanGeek That's pretty much the part I'm looking for from arch, just the setup and customization/configuration

treat the GUI and the terminal as two separate tools in the toolbox. They can do each other's job, but they have advantages and disadvantages compared to the other.

Like some things can be done in the terminal in less than 100 chars, while the GUI would take thousands of mouse-clicks.

some things in the terminal take four and a half scripts, but are two clicks in the GUI.

This really is a true story, and she doesn't know I put it in my comic because her wifi hasn't worked for weeks.

@KazWolfe absolutely, for example, I still do 100% of file mangement, movement, etc. (even for things requiring root privledge, I just run sudo nautilus) through the gui

or whatever linux does now. is it pkexec now? i forget.

usually it's easier to do file management on the CLI anyways

you can mix nautilus and CLI, just browse through nautilus and once you need to do something right-click > Open in terminal
