@fredley We have someone here who keeps referring to themselves as a developer, although they don't work in our department. They "learned on the job". A perfect example of how they're not a developer is that they don't understand the difference between client side and server side.

She was asking if some of the changes we made to the site lately would allow us to turn back on refreshing ads (yes, ads which refresh, love my site), since in the past they caused clients browsers to crash. I told them no, because all the changes we made were server side, and the ad crashing issues were all client side. She goes "What difference does it make? IT's all page load". I spent 2 minutes trying to explain the difference between server side and client side, before i gave up.

@fredley Also that is a good read, although I don't entirely agree with the views on framework/CMS. I agree folks tend to jump to pre-built solutions way too quickly since they don't realize the benefits of building something tailor made for what you need, but there are times when the right framework/CMS is what you need, and will save you a lot of time. They mention that, but it's pretty obvious they view PHP frameworks/CMS as something terrible you should never touch.

@fredley Wordpress community seems to be the worst offender for always going with a pre-built solution which makes no sense. As much as I bitch on Wordpress it's a solid CMS for spinning up basic websites which are going to be very feature lite, but when you try to make some complex website in it you're doing it completely wrong and are just creating more work and headaches for yourself than if you built it for yourself, or even just chose a different CMS/Framwork.

@fredley The over reliance on pre-built plugins among some of the community is frustrating. Yeah, plugins are great, but whenever you go to install a plugin you should be asking yourself "How much of this plugins code am I actually going to use?" If there's some 50-feature plugin, and you just need one feature, which is really just a one line code change in wp-config, then installing that plugin is dumb.

@Unionhawk I had one class on "computer engineering" where 1/3 of the course was on how processors were physically constructed because that's what the professor did for a living I think? The rest of the course was on how processors are optimized internally which could have been interesting if the professor did anything more than literally just read his slides to the class and had a personality.

I remember nothing about that class except that it's the only class I ever needed a study group for because the material was so dense and the teacher was so worthless.

I noticed that sometimes after a gym gets taken over the opposing team is able to add multiple Pokémon's without training. How much time is available to add a Pokémon to a friendly gym after its taken over. And do you have to be part of the battle to take over a gym in order to assign a pokemon

Q: In Pokemon Go, would it cost the same stardust and candies to Power Up if the Pokemon is evolved first or afterwards?

Say if I have a Dragonair, and keep on using stardust and candies to power it up to the max, would it cost exactly the same amount of stardust and candies if I evolve it to Dragonite first, and then power up?

Wordpress has a function which allows you to get the login url, and a filter which will change what this function returns. Wordpress core, however, doesn't seem to ever make use of the function. Like what.
