@Quill ' requires pressing shift so it's really longer in terms of keystrokes

> Powered by Spotify

Did you mean Source?

No, it's Gource.
It's a visualization tool for Git and SVN commits

Oh

I use it occasionally with some custom settings to stroke my ego about how many commits I've made to the SVN repo for my game
It shows the tree as kind of a strange graph with clustered nodes
It's pretty.

CMC: Given an integer, output the least significant '0' bit in it's binary representation.

12:43 AM
I think all the 0 bits are usually the same size.

One-based or zero-based indexing is fine
Better?

:( no fair

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Cheddar, 1 byte: 0

> CMC: Given an integer, output the least significant '0' bit's position in its binary representation.
ftfy

@Geobits Ty
@Upgoat ಠ_ಠ

12:45 AM
I assume you mean position counting leftward?
Or the value of the bit, or what?

JavaScript: var i=parseInt(prompt(),10).toString(2),l;for(var j=0;j<i.length;i++){if(i[j]==0)l=j};alert(l)
I think that's the most rational ungolfy way to do it

Yes. For 1 based, 0 == 1, 1 == 2, 2 == 1, 3 == 3, 7 == 4
@Upgoat That doesn't seem right to me. Where does it convert to binary?

It takes it in binary it looks like :P

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan oh whoops

Pretty sure I can use whatever base for input I want ;)

12:47 AM
yes JavaScript is limited to base-2
if I try to use base-10 it breaks e.g.: parseInt('01234')

Count from the end though, and just use ==0 as the loop terminator.

Okay, sanitized CMC: Given an integer in decimal, output the left-counting index of the least significant '0' bit in it's binary representation.

@Upgoat parseInt(prompt(), 10) into Number(prompt())

s/it's/its/

@Quill but input is integer so Number is not good idea in this case

12:49 AM
Okay fuck that you know what? CMC: Write a program that does a thing. Anything. Whoever get's the most stars wins.
Your program does not have to be valid or produce any output.

@Upgoat Number is for integers

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Finally! Java, 0 bytes:
8

For a second there, I thought mego made a language called "finally".
:P

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan JavaScript: alert("Nevermind, JavaScript sucks shit so its not like I can write a cool program it")
pls giv star i maed fun of javscript im so funee
2

@Upgoat For once, I agree with you on your opinion of javascript.

12:51 AM
thx

@Dennis I used M to add another layer to my answer…
I’m glad that there exists a language that’s just, Jelly but not quite.

1:06 AM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan You know that's just x%2 right?

No it's not. That's the value of the least significant bit.

Ohhh sorry.

You need to find the index of the least significant bit that is off.

I misread

1:07 AM
Finally though a challenge where Ruby's weird number indexing behavior is handy :P

python 34 bytes: f=lambda l:1if l%2==0else f(l/2)+1

Re: Brexit. The count is still going on, but currently (23/382 votes counted), it's 54,29 % "leave".
The intermediate result are falling rates for € and £.

hmm not so handy
since I can't make an iterator out of it really

@mınxomaτ ;_; @Britin y u do dis

and slicing doesn't work

1:14 AM
Whoops, TNB is not my terminal

@Upgoat Europe's favourite humanoid robot (David Cameron) is still trying to give people hope for a "Bremain" result. Definitive results will be available in a few hours.

What unicode symbol should I map to esc?
I need inspiration.
How about Ω?

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan ␛

@mınxomaτ That's almost illegible.

How about an up arrow?

1:24 AM
I'm already planning on using an up arrow for something else.
What about an up-left arrow?

Is this for V?

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Woot!
How do you like it so far?

Does it mean the same thing as in vi? (command mode)

It does the same thing as <esc> in vim (any mode)
The only problem is, entering a literal <esc> character into a file (or an online interpreter) isn't extremely easy, so I'm mapping a second higher character to it.
Oh hey, look: U+2196: ↖

1:30 AM
How about a ditto mark or a pipe symbol? That way it kinda looks like it is delimiting insert text and commands

Do you mean a literal pipe, e.g. '|' or a similar character?

Similar char. There is one in cp437 that is split in half iirc that would look good

OK. I like the up-left arrow for escape, but I might end up using that one for something else.
I need to pick 62, so there's lots of room to fill.

You could also do code point 127 from cp437. It's a pentagon shape that looks a bit like a house
Since command mode is default I think that is apropos plus it looks more like a key modifier

1:35 AM
@mınxomaτ One of the few outside-the-US political events I'm aware of and kinda following. :P
Also wow this is gonna be close.

This one: ⌂?

yea

British Colonies Overseas Territories voted >90% for Brexit.

@mınxomaτ Woah, that's pretty one-sided. Why is that?

What should I do for 127? (e.g. delete)

1:37 AM
An x mark of some sort perhaps? Or a back arrow?

@El'endiaStarman They have a very particular affiliation with the EU. Watch this.

Does α (alpha) make sense for 0x01? (e.g. <C-a> e.g. increment)

Can you lay out a full table of what you have so far?
although yes i do think that makes sense

Sure. What's the best way? Gist?

sure

1:44 AM
Can I upload a file directly to gist? I'm having some trouble getting it to work.
Maybe I'll just make a scratch repository.

Why not just commit it to V

quick question: in PCRE regex, I want to get a string of letters followed by \r?\n, but not include \r?\n in the match

Use a non capturing group

okay, what's that?

(?:...)
not unique to pcre

1:46 AM
@mınxomaτ Seen it before, but watched it again to refresh my memory. I still don't see why the British Overseas Territories want so badly to leave the EU.

I'm not good at regex
it doesn't work >:| stupid J regex

@El'endiaStarman Less layers of foreign governments. Though most of the sane people at the London School of Economics already told them that's complete bs.

It doesn't? Lemme see the regex

('(.+)(?:\r?\n)') rxfirst 'asdf',CR,LF

1:48 AM
yields the entire thing

A lot of them are unprintable (which is exactly why I'm trying to fix it)

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ two things

@mınxomaτ Would you mind also refreshing my memories on why people want to leave/stay?

one + is greedy two if you are already storing the other part in a group you don't need to do anything special the group won't have the other stuff
in fact all you need is ([^\r\n]+)

1:52 AM
you can drop the parens if you don't need a capture group

thanks a lot. my brain is fried

@El'endiaStarman There are no economic benefits of leaving (and it'll complete fck over Scotland who rely 100% on EU rents). People just want something radical to happen, no matter what. Source: HM (British) Treasury, Bank of England, IMF, OECD, National Institute of Economic and Social Research, pwc, Oxford Economics & The Centre for Economic Performance
The argument of Brexit-campaigners is (quote): "People are tired of experts who tell them what to think."

seems legit

Interesting that there's a sort of backlash against authority happening in both the UK and the US.

Source on the last one: youtu.be/GGgiGtJk7MA?t=60
@El'endiaStarman See, if people are bored they radicalize. Extreme solutions to non-problems are emotionally satisfying if done quickly (one can observe a similar effect in court sessions), while actual solutions to real, long-term problems are ignored because they take to much time.
It's the old "I'll take the $95 today, instead of $100 in two weeks." issue.

2:02 AM
Human psychology strikes again. -_-

Just curious, is anyone here from the UK? If so, what are your thoughts/opinions on the matter?

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan I know @VTCAKAVSMoACE is from/in the UK, but he doesn't seem to be in here at the moment. I think there's at least one other, but I don't remember who.

Someone with a yellow gravatar afaik.

Muddyfish
I thought
@mınxomaτ Oh yeah wizzwizz

And timwi

2:08 AM
and ArtofCode too I believe

Got quite a couple of UK regulars then
trichoplax maybe? dont recall

I think I'm not informed enough to have an opinion on the matter. >_>

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan @Randal'Thor voted to stay iirc.

(Where the 1.9k users of codegolf.xyz come from)

2:16 AM

o_O indeed

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Up the EU!

2:18 AM
> Page updates automatically

@Quill :D

Not in my experience.

m2
F5 it is.

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan The results of that just show that SE users tend to be more intelligent than most.

Yeah, same. Also, wow, 70% voter turnout!

2:20 AM
Lol, the last local vote where I live had 21% >.>

Vote for what?

Parts of the city government.

Hmm. That map would probably benefit greatly from doing some sort of blend with a neutral color in the middle.

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan I disapprove of the lack of the following options: "I don't know."

After all, what matters is the total popular vote, right?

2:25 AM
Most important though:
> The referendum result is not legally binding. Parliament still has to pass the laws that will get Britain out of the EU, starting with the repeal of the 1972 European Communities Act.

@mınxomaτ "legally binding" - so the referendum means nothing?

@Zizouz212 It's a way to hear the voice of the people.

@Zizouz212 It's a poll. Parliament decides.

Haha, I know... In theory, it does mean nothing. Parliament can easily ignore it (but then good luck getting re-elected)

But since the UK will get the EU presidency in later 2017, I guess they'll wait anyway until after the apex of their political power within the EU.

2:30 AM
Does anyone here have any input for this Java answer?

@mınxomaτ So, it's possible that the UK would become the temporary figurehead/country in charge of the EU, and then say "Screw you guys, I'm leaving!"?

@R.Kap (String X=new String();String Y=new String();String Z=new String();) I have no idea about Java, but is there really not a better way to do this? An array maybe?
@El'endiaStarman Yeah.

Sounds like it'd be awkward.

No one will get elected the following election

@El'endiaStarman WTF.

2:33 AM
Someone's upset.

2:48 AM
@Randal'Thor why do you want to stay in the EU?
I don't think you should leave either, just wondering the reasons for each side.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Why are you questioning?

10 secs ago, by Eᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏ Iʀᴋ
I don't think you should leave either, just wondering the reasons for each side.
ninjuic'ed

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Because leaving would be obviously terrible and wreck the country.

@Randal'Thor that gives no information at all, just fyi
@Randal'Thor okay
everywhere or one specific country?

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Hey, it's 4am - don't expect me to be too articulate :-)
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ A few, but I'd rather not say too much.

2:55 AM
okay
just wondering if you are from one specific country or not
@Randal'Thor lol
BTW, VTCAKAVSMoACE is the other main PPCG'er who is UK.
@Randal'Thor o_O are you UTC? Google says no.

It's 5am here, so I guess he's right.

@El'endiaStarman hwat
I'm in England, yeah.

in Mos Eisley, yesterday, by Rand al'Thor
@Ixrec I wouldn't be seen dead waving a Union Jack. You guys in here think I'm more British than I am, because this place is full of Americans :-) I see myself more as a European than a Brit.

Oooh Brexit polls are tight.

2:58 AM
@VTCAKAVSMoACE And looking bad :-(

not even a tardis one?

@Randal'Thor Depends who you ask. ;)

@VTCAKAVSMoACE Which way did you vote?

I care because I have a company in the UK. And lemme tell you, EU tax regulations are probably better than anything the UK comes up with.

2:59 AM
IIRC he is a trench coat with no voting rights

@Randal'Thor Can't vote, but I'd vote leave, personally.

@mınxomaτ lol

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Correct.

yeah
kinda sad, seeing how he is vintage and everything
@VTCAKAVSMoACE why leave?
For that matter, why stay?
IM CONFUSED WHY THIS EVEN MAKES A DIFFERENCE

3:00 AM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ It doesn't decide anything.
Parliament does.

yes
but why leaving/staying even matters

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ As far as I see, even though there is the benefit of free trade and communal trade between UK and EU, it also pulls liquidity from UK to help the poorer nations of EU, which UK doesn't like (for the most part)

okay
so that's it?
doesn't seem much

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ You'll find out tomorrow if Leave win and the economy collapses, the PM resigns, and half the country begin making plans to emigrate.

just rename yourself America v2.0 and be happy

3:01 AM
There's also the recent issue of immigration, which, when tied with the free movement through Europe, there's a big problem with a lot of conservative parties.

God no.
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ NO.

@Randal'Thor I wouldn't be surprised if the EU suffers economic problems more than the UK, to be honest.

@Randal'Thor it could also be "You'll find out tomorrow if Stay win and the economy sinks into a hole, the PM commits suicide, and half the country begin making plans to leave the EU but stay in UK."

@VTCAKAVSMoACE And the absurd amount of money the UK would have to pay to the EU for market entry as an independent country is far greater than any cashflow from the UK to the EU as of now.

@Randal'Thor YES
MAKE UK GREAT AGAIN
Hm, leave is winning so far

3:02 AM
@mınxomaτ Assuming that they wished to continue free trade and communal trade between them, which they don't necessarily.

@VTCAKAVSMoACE @mınxomaτ opinions on America v2.0?

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Nobody's indicated the first two of those are likely to happen, and the third seems impossible in that scenario.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ

:(
@Randal'Thor i was joking, but okay
why hell no
im sad pepele dont like my creativies names
im going to stop spelign

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Overnight, as Leave have taken the lead, the pound has dropped sharply on the stock market, various politicians have called for the PM's resignation, and some of us have been talking about leaving the country. This isn't idle speculation here.

3:05 AM
@VTCAKAVSMoACE Basically all financial institutions (main source of tax income in London and City of London), will relocate. They have all said they will switch to alternate locations within the EEA if the UK does leave.

@Randal'Thor ._.
that is saddening

@Randal'Thor The € is currently falling, too. And markets didn't even open yet in mainland Europe!

@Randal'Thor Star wars spoilers, courtesy of reddit: Snape kills Han Solo, Chewbacca is Jesus' son.
>_>

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Bleh, Star Wars.

yes
ik you hate it
bask in the glory

3:12 AM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ There's probably a "church" that believes that somewhere.

@Randal'Thor It's also concerning as an Australian (part of the British Commonwealth), apparently our international travel visas would get cancelled and our economy would drop alongside yours

crossed out 4444 is still regular 4444

I think now's the time to ditch Australia..... I wonder whether I could get away in all that smoke coming from Europe

3:16 AM
hahaha

Heh

Although the smoke isn't coming from Europe... it's coming out of David Cameron's ears

@VTCAKAVSMoACE WTAFFFFFF
WHY
WHY DID YOU EVEN PING ME ABOUT THAT

> I just deepthroated a croissant.

3:17 AM
WHYYYYY

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Don't forget that Chuck Norris destroys the entire universe in the end.

do you know that person?

@Quill The robot's brain is overheating.

3:18 AM
@VTCAKAVSMoACE

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Using a Nokia.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ The "VTC is love" guy?
No.

@VTCAKAVSMoACE seriously, do you know that person?
@VTCAKAVSMoACE oh okay

He was in a group chat that I was added to.
I'll send you the whole conversation on Skype if you wish.
Alrighty, sent.

3:20 AM
@mınxomaτ Maybe the EU are going to find out he's a robot, so that's why he's pushing to leave. What a conspiracy this is. We'd better ask on Skeptics

afaik Cameron == android is a running gag
Certainly in Brooker's shows.

@Quill Wait, Cameron isn't pushing to leave.

^
Others are pushing him to leave

That's what they said on the radio this morning.... hmmm....

@VTCAKAVSMoACE I have to say, wtaf, again.
wtaf
I gtg to bed, bye!

Life lesson, kids: Never trust Australian radio stations

@Quill They've just got their facts ... upside down

3:25 AM
@mınxomaτ ಠ‾ಠ

( ͜。 ͡ʖ ͜。)

fecking brits.. y u wanna leave? :/

My region voted "leave".
I swear, I always leave for the important things. :I I'm in America right now.

Not much of an upgrade hides

@VTCAKAVSMoACE why?

3:32 AM
> 91 results left to declare

@mınxomaτ finds and kills ruthlessly /s

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Long story.

@VTCAKAVSMoACE okay

the yen went up like a rocket

3:36 AM
Holy crap, the yen is at 137 from people moving their currency. I wish I'd known that was going to happen.

@Geobits 137 what?

seriously going to bed now, bye!

The Bitcoin gained $300 and 200 € per BTC in the last 24h.

@aditsu 137 yen to the pound.

right
closer to 136 now

3:43 AM
So there we are, the result is pretty much clear now: Leave.

@mınxomaτ Noooooo :'(

^
keep it the same so tim peake can go back

@Geobits Holy.

3:46 AM
still dropping like a rock

Well, currency traders are having a blast today.

except the ones who lost money :p

Hmm. My naive mind thinks that while people are still freaking out about this, it would be a great time to buy some pounds >_>
I'm guessing it will stabilize higher than it is now.

Dude you can see the Yen just dropping.

@Geobits oh god

3:52 AM
So. What are the odds the parliament actually goes through with leaving?

@Geobits If the referendum goes through? Likely.

They still have to repeal the treaty, right?

@Geobits Not only that. Laws have to be created to even lay the legal groundwork of leaving the EEA.

Sounds like work. If they're anything like the US Congress, it'll never get done anyway and this'll all have been just for lulz.
I don't know what their power balance is, or if they're deadlocked, etc.

the US is still no. 1 at not getting things done, it's very hard to compete with that

3:57 AM
They'll have the EU presidency in 2017. But I predict large amounts of bank lobbying will prevent a Brexit altogether

@aditsu At least we're still in first for something I guess.
