@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ ._. the video says that the tf2 games are in circle 7 of hell.

@Quill That may be true, but I have the feeling the people who did click that ad aren't the type who would recommend CR before learning the first thing about it.

Q: Shortest simple regex matching a binary word

LynnTask Define a simple regex as a non-empty regular expression consisting only of characters 0 and 1, grouping parentheses ( and ), one-or-more repetition quantifier +. Given a non-empty string of 0s and 1s, your program should find the shortest simple regex matching the full input string. (Th...

I conjecture that the longest one would be 9 characters long
namely, 1+(0+1+)+
And without brackets the longest one would be 1+0+1+
And without + the longest one would be 101
10101

0+1
1+0

$ cheddar juic

  Options:

    -V, --version output the version number

Additionally, the conjecture is proven, because the LCM regex is 0+(1+0+)+ or 1+(0+1+)+ or 1+0+ or 0+1+ or 1+ or 0+.

Q: What does the "Fi" in "Wi-Fi" mean?

Guitar Shoe DaveI just got into a heated discussion about Wi-Fi. What does the Fi in Wi-Fi mean? I would have thought potentially "frequency interface" since all network adapters are classified as interfaces. However I'm not certain. Hopefully this is considered an appropriate question to ask on superuser.

I always thought it meant Wireless Fiber :o

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan you need two carrots

@Doorknob I agree in principal, but Y is extremely useful in vim-golf.

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan True, but a blank vimrc is implied there.

@Doorknob yes, but not while I'm writing it. I can't handle using a blank vimrc.
Better?

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan I always test submissions with -u NONE (and in plain vim, not neovim like I normally use). Just to be safe...

Not -i NONE also? Recursive macros are a pain without it.

3:39 AM
Oh, that's neato. I used to just do qqq repeatedly. Thanks :P

Then again, recursive macros are always a pain unless you're using V. (Hint hint)

Trump is equally criminal, they both have lawsuits pending.

@himarmjr You really shouldn't.

I'm curious to see as to what monster, interesting challenge, comes out of this

@Dennis Do we have a "get the text out this answer" question?
Plain text.

3:54 AM
Explain

@himarmjr Not sure. Probably.

okay
I found "get the html of the answer above yours", but not that.
@Dennis would you count that as a dupe of ^?

@himarmjr it's not a good idea to make tags that are just memes for one question

Yeah.
14
Q: Output the answer above yours

Helka HombaWrite a program that outputs the contents of the first HTML <code>...</code> block of the answer to this question that is just above yours when the answers are sorted by votes. Output Top! if you are the top answer. Ignore answers that have negative votes or no <code>...</code> tags. The source ...

Dupe or not?

@himarmjr maybe post full proposal in sandbox so we can better give feedback?

3:59 AM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan 1. you changed your avatar. 2. If you go to the share link for an answer, it gives a question number and answer number (e.g. ppcg.../a/<questionnum>/<answernum>. You ouput the plain text source of the answer that those numbers refer to.

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan at least keep the "DJ" at the end :/

@himarmjr I think so, yeah.

4:15 AM
I have Folder A at ~/A and I want to move & rename it to /usr/local/share/B. I'm trying to do cp -R ~/A /usr/local/share/B/ but it seems to copy it to /usr/local/share/B/A. Anyone have any ideas on how to address this?

cp -R ~/A /usr/local/share/ && mv /usr/local/share/A /usr/local/share/B
a move command that goes to the same directory renames the target

@Quill anyway to do it without the mv command? That is very ungolfy :P

idk

odd. rm -rfing a 777d dir is giving permission denied
Can anyone with node installed please run: bash <(curl -s cheddar.vihan.org/install) ? I think I've perfected the Cheddar installer.

4:32 AM
@Upgoat If it's Node why not make it a npm module for super easy installing? I forget exactly how it works but then you could do npm install Cheddar
I think I did that for Shtriped

or a docker container >_>

5:05 AM
language design: what if I allow trailing commas in function parameters

@HelkaHomba nah. cheddar is only written in node. not a node tool port package. I'd like it to be independent of node. maybe even auto install node with it

some_func(var1, var2, ) would be valid

@NathanMerrill don't? I don't see the reason typo sorry it
though if you do. the trailing comma should be ignored

I'd allow it for the same reason we often see trailing commas in list literals

though it really is a syntax error. not calling it out would be bad

5:07 AM
it makes for easy copy/paste, especially with multiline function calls
I guess the question is: which is more likely to cause bugs?
I mean, potentially, I removed an optional parameter, and forgot to put it back in. Ignoring the trailing comma would hide that bug

5:49 AM
@NathanMerrill you're not making a golfing lang afaik. you should point bugs out rather than ignore or implicitly deal with it

@Upgoat my desire for trailing commas was with making working with large parameter lists easier

@Lynn ಠ_ಠ see: regex101.com/r/bK2xB1/3 Cheddars tokenizer is much more readable in regex than in formal grammar

its pretty common for tuples/lists to allow trailing commas, simply to make moving parameters around easier, and to make adding another parameter easier

@NathanMerrill :/ true. but doing things implicitly can make debugging harder, maybe just show a warning?

nah, warnings get ignored (unless I lint it, but then its kind of silly to allow in the first place)
its either all or nothing in my mind
and I'm actually leaning towards not allowing them
because rearrangement of parameters isn't really too common of a task, and you shouldn't have long lists of parameters in the first place
so it's providing a feature for poor design
