I'm not sure I completely agree that these are off topic
They're not very helpful; it's unlikely that someone will answer "9th of july!", of course.

@Severus Tux could you find a solution to your problem that you posted in stack overflow stackoverflow.com/questions/37516625/…

Nope! All I found out is : that problem exists is all compaq 15 series laptops/
it gives perfect output when debugged using gdb
but Undefined Behavior when compiled and exicuted
@rohith you have similar issue ?

yep
when i compiled your program
i got the same output as yours

Ah... :D

My laptop is Dell

3:15 PM
hm..

try downgrading your gcc once

well, I tried that code on kali linux, Linux mint, mate, xubuntu, fedora & cent on my laptop, no good result ;(

and uncheck "unsupported updates" in Settings -> Software Updates -> Updates

Does any one know how to set Compose keys using dconf-editor ? I made [this](http://askubuntu.com/q/648659/497359) but OP keeps editing his question adding extra tasks to do. Now he hates GUI and he wants to set the compose key using a script.

Does any one know the schema for this ? org.gnome.... etc ?
wha...?? i am not able to embed that link

hi @StefanoPalazzo! Been a while :)

3:30 PM
@SeverusTux use gsettings
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources xkb-options '[compose:foo]'

@muru Thanks :D

@SeverusTux for available keys, see AB's answer

A: How to configure the Compose key on Ubuntu 15.04?

A.B.There is no official way. Install and open the dconf editor: sudo apt-get install dconf-editor dconf-editor Go to org.gnome.desktop.input-sources and change the entry for xkb-options, eg: ['terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp','compose:menu'] Replace the value for menu in 'compose:menu' if you need ano...

wow! thats exactly what I was searching for :D
@mure I still have a problem :|
severus@Tux:~$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources xkb-options ['compose:ralt']
unknown keyword:
[compose:ralt]
^^^^^^^
any ideas ??

Looks like you have to wrap the quotes in quotes

3:40 PM
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources xkb-options "['compose:ralt']"

severus@Tux:~$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources xkb-options [\'compose:ralt\']
severus@Tux:~$
:D Thanks

@Seth how's it going :)

not bad, not bad. Planning on sticking around? :)

I'm here all the time :D
I'm about ready to leave work though
Which is where my computer is (:

@StefanoPalazzo Whaaaaat!!?? No computer at home? That's like -3000 geek points right there!

3:45 PM
@terdon I was exaggerating

Phew...

Let me get some points back, hang on.

+5000. Nice! Whatever it is :)

Q: Resize a specific window to a specific size and screen location from within a script

GilesI've seen similar questions but not identical ones, how do I resize a specific window to a specific size and location on the screen from within a script? I've seen the use of Resize and Printf but haven't been able to make anything work. Does it matter what type of window it is?

@UbuntuQuestionsonU&L Sometimes I feel the only thing you're good for is alerting me to mistagged questions on U&L.

Q: Accepted answer that you don't agree with during review audit

XToroAs I was going through and reviewing posts, I saw this one. I downvoted it and then got this message: STOP! Look and Listen. This was an audit, designed to see if you were paying attention. You didn't pass. Your review was inappropriate. This was a high quality post and you should h...

I am going to post about our election on Planet. Here's a draft of it. If you got any feedback, please send them my way.

@terdon It's four raspberry pi 3 boards running ubuntu for an MPI compute cluster.

@jokerdino would questions be tagged discussion+election or support+election?

@StefanoPalazzo Sweet!

most election questions seem to be tagged with discussion+election. Let me recheck that.
@muru I guess we can retag the questions as appropriate when they come.

4:11 PM
@jokerdino "If mod work is not your cup of tea but still looking for a way to help" ==> "If mod work is not your cup of tea but you're still looking for a way to help"

@terdon Edited

Although, are you sure you want to advertise the elections off site? Do you really want more candidacies from users who don't really spend much time here? Experience with the site and its culture is quite important for modwork.

It's nearly customary for us to post about elections on Planet. We need to report to Community council too.

Ah, OK, Ubuntu stuff. Fair enough.

Besides, I doubt you will get any new candidates because it's there on planet. It's almost only for sharing news about things happening in the site.
Soo, looking good?

4:18 PM
yes!

Only nits.

Posted but you can still pick your nits.

I will not make snot puns. I will not make snot puns

ye shall not

@jokerdino so turns out distutils was deprecated in Xenial in favour of setuptools.
That's one reason my UTT snap was failing (apparently).

4:24 PM
ah what
are we supposed to switch to setuptools now?

what with that and Nathan's bug in the setup.py it should probably be scrapped and rewritten to use setuptools. I guess that will be my first line of business when I'm less busy. If we can get it snapped we can release updates whenever we want, no more SRUs :D
@jokerdino we don't have to, but I figure no more SRUs would make you happy ;)

lol I dont remember we managing to land SRUs before.

(well, s/no more/less/)
I'm using it as a general term :P
Still have to write a testimonial for fossy.. Gotta get that done today.

yeah that one is still not done.

[Ten tips to handle your question in the worst possible way](http://meta.askubuntu.com/questions/15344/ten-tips-to-handle-your-question-in-the-worst-possible-way) seems to happen again and again .... ;( OP never tells if my solution worked. instead he re-edits his question and adds something new. Tells me to edit my answer because of many **bold** letters. Tells me that he hates GUI and needs a commandline alternative for that.

PUH.., one thing he never tells is if the solution work.

5:16 PM
@SeverusTux That happens way too many times. My biggest irritation is questions like this where muru posted an answer, only to find it doesn't work because OP was doing it on iOS. And Jacob's didn't because OP was doing that on OS X. Do people not read the name of the site?

:30186 @terdon - Looks like a Raspberry Pi mining cluster :)
@StefanoPalazzo Is that a Raspberry Pi rep point mining cluster?

6:06 PM
So...
I can now confirm that this works with my Raspberry Pi.
It fully supports master mode and I can create a usable AP with it.
So long, Realtek. Hello, Atheros.
What does everyone think about this template?

Tim
copyright is out of date
and when I shrink the screen, the bottom 5 icons looks silly because one goes below them
text goes under image :/

6:22 PM
@NathanOsman it is in a weird language :=)

Hey @Nathan you might want to see this reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/4mz0mm/…

Tim
It appears to only be responsive by shrinking everything, because I can zoom out in an odd way:

Hrm.

Tim
It's also hard to see the arrows to change the thing on mobile

Okay, forget that one then.

6:30 PM
giving up already? :-)

I want to begin working with a theme knowing there aren't already issues out-of-the-box :D

Tim
Semi related: Wow my iPhone screenshots are massive!

You should see the shots from my Nexus 6...
2560x1440 is bigger than it sounds.

Tim
Yeah, like bigger than the screen I'm using right now for my desktop

6:34 PM
[ SmokeDetector ] Bad keyword with email in body: Problem reading from Aldryn's remote repository by Eldon Graham on askubuntu.com

@SmokeDetector silly

Tim
I have a 16:9 1920 x 1080 screen downstairs but I'm using 1280x1024 here

Yeah, my desktop monitors are both 1080p too.

Tim
It's nice, I can have two things on each screen, and they're almost 1000px wide each, so I can do 4 things at once now!
At college I can almost do two, but they're so narrow when they fill half the screen there

@SmokeDetector @Tim I edited the post to codeblock rest of the stuff.
but I am not sure if the post is on topic for our site.
because I don't fully understand it and it's pretty late for me. Hmmrph.

7:11 PM
@jokerdino FYI - I responded to the mail !

@cl-netbox Thank you. Please do stick around.

Troll alert:
> "But i say to you this. If you give me a change, you won't be disappointed that i can assure you"

Tim
7:34 PM
Red Flags of that nomination: 1. "I don't exactly have a lot to say given my reputation score isn't impressive." Well you need to say stuff then! 2. 2/40 score 3. Doesn't know that "I" is capitalised in English. 4. Still has not signed the code of conduct 5. "i plan to get more involved. I've made alot of friends from here." I've never seen him!

I must say, he doesn't look like the most likely candidate.

@anonymous2 eh none do except for Tim ;-)

Videonauth looks promising too, apart from the fact that he hasn't been on long.

Tim
I was expecting to be up against some better competition...

7:37 PM
I bet.

The nomination isn't finished yet.

Tim
Yeah there's The Brown One, Videonauth and Andrew.46 (maybe)

but ... on the year list ... not a lot of them are active

That's where I like Videonauth. Early retirement; wide knowledge base; 10 hrs a day on the site... While he doesn't have the badges and rep like Tim, he does have time to kill.

@Rinzwind you could nominate yourself to give @Tim a run for his money ;)

Tim
7:42 PM
@Rinzwind Yeah, why haven't you?

Bear in mind, you don't know if JacobVlijm and muru are planning on joining the race.

It's just the second days guys xD
I'm sure the competition will increase.

Tim
It is just the second day, yes

@Tim @Rinzwind is smart.

Tim
The 2014 election askubuntu.com/election/4 had a lot of good candidates

7:45 PM
Yep. Just the second day. Some of you might know what the Good Book says - "Pride cometh before a fall, and a haughty spirit before destruction." :) Seriously, @Tim does look like a good candidate.
I also think a few high-rep users are still smarting from SE's decision to wipe out a few points.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a few good late arrivals.

i believe muru has said he might join the race

Tim
Ooh lightning

He said it depends on the competition. If he sees two potentials that he likes, he'll stand by.
Lightning? We've got sunshine.

user136984
I'm thinking about nominating myself too... The data site says that I have a 32/40 score, what does that exactly mean?

Tim
Well, the english summer has started you see
@ParanoidPanda So that adds up your reputation, capped at 20k (Each 1000 = 1 point) and then also the badges

user136984
7:56 PM
@Tim: Well, yesterday was nice wasn't it?

Tim
@ParanoidPanda I lost 120 yesterday

user136984
I mean in terms of the weather...

Tim
Oh, yesterday was very nice

user136984
I lost 6k yesterday.

Tim
Bit hot to be walking as far as I did, but better than thunder etc
6k!?

user136984
7:58 PM
Well, Fabby lost about 17k, and cl-netbox lost 22k and is now at 11k so... I'm not the worst off...

user136984
I had 16k, now I'm at 10k...

Tim
Were all of Cl's upvotes from serial upvoting then?!

I gained 6k yesterday. No, wait. That was 60. That's right. Memory blank.
I don't know how you could lose that much from honest to goodness serial upvoting without knowing, @ParanoidPanda. I'm still not convinced on their algorithm.

Tim
@ParanoidPanda Were you like all voting on each other's or something?
Because over 2 years, that's an upvote per day almost

The poor fellows. I wouldn't like to lose 22k.
Though it wouldn't be a lot different from losing 6k.

8:02 PM
Well.

user136984
@anonymous2: I looked in my voting history, the system decided that as over the last year I have accepted a huge amount of Fabby's answers (because they solved my problem and he was helpful like that a lot) that that must have been serial upvoting, so it reversed them all and gave me a warning... In my opinion there is a line, and the system just crossed it and went to the extreme... Now I'm scared to upvote anything, even accepting answers from the same user seems to be considered a crime.

@ParanoidPanda No, the system did not act here. Stack Exchange did everything yesterday manually.

user136984
@Seth: What?! So the whole of SE is nuts?

although there were pieces of collateral damage that they could not help.

Tim
What volume of accepts are we saying here?

user136984
8:04 PM
@Tim No, and I only upvote contents I believe deserves the upvote. I actually don't like getting upvotes I don't deserve. So if this really was the result of serial voting (which I don't think it all can be), then I guess it's a good thing.

Tim
Were like 75% of your answers from him?

@ParanoidPanda No, that is what happens when people find unnoticed ways to abuse the voting system.

Tim
Because if so, it's understandable you lost at leas some I guess.

user136984
@Tim: I don't know, but there were a lot at the time when Fabby joined and when he was most active here.

The longer people get away with it the more collateral is damaged when it is fixed.

user136984
8:06 PM
@Seth: Why was it decided that I abused the system by accepting answers which worked and just happened to be from more or less the same group of helpful users who know that kind of thing round the site?

I don't know the exact details of who or why what. That's all I know.

Tim
@ParanoidPanda We don't know the formula but I guess the volume and % accepted

Bear in mind, @ParanoidPanda, @Seth wasn't the one who did it.

If you want details reply to the message you received.

user136984
Ok

8:08 PM
+1, @Seth.

user136984
I will.

Tim
The issue is finding the difference between "just happened to be from more or less the same group of helpful users" and "this is a large voting ring"
And that is not a trivial problem

user136984
If there is a voting ring, I'm certainly not part of it and don't have an awareness of it, plus, I don't stand for that sort of thing.

FWIW SE spent ~2.5 months investigating. It wasn't on a whim.

WUT? We can get Marshal badge several times now?
naa that's a bug...

8:15 PM
@Tim 1. don't have the time 2. I am the top not-mod :+)

@Takkat Whoa

Tim
Okay so what...?

@Seth again askubuntu.com/help/badges/87/marshal 5 sec ago....

Tim
To everyone 40 seconds ago!?

8:17 PM
Aw, I didn't get one!

lol
yes 2 marshalls!!!!!!
I like gold badgers :=)

No fair.
I mean, Congratulations! I'm so happy for you!

thanks :D

(pouts)

8:20 PM
@Takkat gratz! @tim gratz!

@Rinzwind how many did they give you?

I got 2
already had 1 so now I have 3

Tim
Yeah, 3 now

Neat-O. Do you think you can keep them?
So SE is taking away rep and giving away free badges...
What a week!

no they probably recalculated the badges

8:21 PM
I'm guessing you're right.

Marshal badge is becoming less prestiguous by this: awarded 256 times....

lol

next 512 I guess then 1024

@anonymous2 makes sense to me that the marshal badge can be awarded multiple times

Yep. I guess it wasn't before, though, so they're passing them out by the dozens.

Tim
8:22 PM
@edwinksl Not to everyone on the whole network at once!

Looks that way.
lol

back 2 Bond James Bond

@Tim lol yeah, maybe this is a bug that they just caught?

8:36 PM

@NathanOsman how are the birds doing?

I'm not sure. They were quite large the last time I checked.
I'm no longer staying at the place where they were though.
So I'm not sure what the current status is.

@AaronHall hello :)

Anonymous
@NathanOsman I would use ReadTheDocs, or some nice Jekyll templates for documentation. (DocuUp or something like that?)

Anonymous
@NathanOsman Did you move, or was it a vacation?

9:38 PM
@onebree Vacation
@onebree But I'm not using it for documentation :D
I just really like the theme.

user136984
@Nathan: Love George’s new video by the way! ;)

Thanks :)

user136984
But I think you need to have another word with his tailor... His belly was a bit, exposed, shall we say... :P

That's important.

Maybe he should have added that to his presentation. :P

@ParanoidPanda I need to get him a suit.
And tie. Also a tie.

I have Twitter. I just don't follow those type of people

user139252
So, I'm not allowed to talk about it too much, but Pokemon Go is an awesome game.
