@Johannes_B Puzzles and Code Golf? :D

@ChristianHupfer Look at the image that guy produced. The color is slightly off and two pixels are too much, but else ...

@Johannes_B I rather wondered about that that site exists

@ChristianHupfer The SE network is full of strange things.

Hallo boys! Upgrading from LyX 2.1.4 to LyX 2.2.0 I got an error "Missing character: There is no ; in font nullfont!" (with a tikzpicture) that LyX 2.1.4 didn't give. I solved it with David Carlisle's answer to this question: "http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/147722/tikzpicture-there-is-no-in-font-n‌ullfont-but-no-extraneous-text/147736#147736" (there was a ";" left at the end of \end{scope}). What about creating a cumminity wiki like "LyX 2.1.x to LyX 2.2.0: little (resolvable) problems"?

7:48 AM
@CarLaTeX What is LyX? @Johannes_B ;-)

You are ironic, aren't you?

@CarLaTeX Make an educated guess ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Three questions in one, all of them duplicates. I am unsatisfied with the answers. Thoughts? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/299800/…

@Johannes_B VtC for the question (due to duplicates) and flagging the answers?

@CarLaTeX What you are describing is a simple LaTeX error and has nothing to do with LyX at first sight. But with the update to 2.2.0, LyX got a bit more picky (which is good). Not sure, if a question like that can have an answer.
@ChristianHupfer Flagging for what?

7:56 AM
@Johannes_B low quality?

@ChristianHupfer I just read the second part of the answer by vidar: You have to set the pagestyle to plain because plain is the default. What did he mean by that?
Hello to the guys who just dropped in :-)

@Johannes_B Was my guess not educated? Sorry, I'm not English mother tongue, I was only joking. I have already solved my problem, I would only like to create a community wiki where all this little thing are collected so the newbie like me can look at it, if they have problems with the new LyX release.

@CarLaTeX Yes, Christian was ironic. :-)
@CarLaTeX I am not sure if you can create a list of stuff, that LyX is more picky about on the site. @JosephWright Can we ping @scott? He knows best.
@DavidCarlisle What about tex.stackexchange.com/questions/299228/… As i can tell, the question is unclear. There isn't any proof, that the plots are creating the warning or something completely different. With the informatioin given, there can't be a reliable answer. imho
Tags don't match as well.

@Johannes_B I'm not able, but I think it could be a good idea, if some expert could do that, thank you!

8:12 AM
@CarLaTeX If a question like that can be answered, fine. But if it cannot be answered ... (Scott will know)

@Johannes_B: I am looking for old counter or ToC related questions, perhaps there can be other answers added

@ChristianHupfer I am currently looking at unanswered questions that have no upvoted answers. I upvoted quite a few, you got two, egreg got two so far. Some answers i cannot upvote, because thhe question is just unclear and the answers are guesswork (like so often on the site) or the answers are just awful.

@Johannes_B Oh well, it doesn't matter, however I have always found a solution to my problems on TEX_SE, thanks for existing!

Is that one on topic?

Letaief Fatenwhat package remote repository to use from tunisia and how can I configure my texmaker ?

@Johannes_B: Regarding the question you linked above: The solution by the userXYZ is really not useful. \documentclass{myreport4} ;-)

8:23 AM
@ChristianHupfer Agreed :-)

@Johannes_B flagged as low quality

@ChristianHupfer Ok, thanks.

@Johannes_B and upvoted your comment there ;-)

Note to self: You are hungry, get something to eat.

8:46 AM
@Johannes_B well werner and I answered the original question but he changed the question, I voted for werner's answer just to get it off the list

@DavidCarlisle Changing the question, i love it.

8:57 AM
You have five votes left for today.
The question is unclear and the proposed answer only kinda helpful. The user might be using biblatex loaded in common.tex. tex.stackexchange.com/questions/289488/cannot-find-bibliography

This is a dupe, most likely, but it's not clear what is meant:

@DavidCarlisle Am i understanding something wrong? ^^^^^

@Johannes_B The JPG file has no bounding box information; that syntax works for EPS files in latex.

@egreg Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.
@ChristianHupfer the template is found on Sharelatex, and so this is relevant. ;-)

10:43 AM
@Johannes_B arguable. It's found on CTAN too, why not adding CTAN tag as well? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer If you don't understand how LaTeX works ...

@Johannes_B Sometimes I think we have a bunch of LaZy LaTeX UsErs ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Sh, nobody needs to know.

Oh, only three days until TL 2016 ... I am so excited ;-)
@Johannes_B: The 'Template' MyReport4 - based answer has been deleted

@ChristianHupfer You are following up on stuff like that?

10:57 AM
@Johannes_B No, not really, but I noticed that my flag was 'helpful'

@ChristianHupfer Ah.

@egreg ^^^^^^ Look what i just found in the following answer: tex.stackexchange.com/a/313156/37907

12:17 PM
@Johannes_B Yes, I knew the option was being added. Since once I wrote that the koma classes should have an option for not having sans serif titles, that guy, well known for his sense of humor and politeness, did that.

@egreg :-)

@Johannes_B The code \setkomafont{disposition}{\normalcolor\bfseries} is silly: what does “disposition” mean? For a non German I think it's impossible to guess. He just chose an arbitrary translation for “Anordnung”, I believe.
@Johannes_B Besides, this doesn't change the font for description labels.

@egreg What would be a better word?

@Johannes_B layout, perhaps; or titles

@egreg To me, a documentclass and a template are baically the same. There will be stuff that doesn't match own expectation. So it needs to be changed. I really don't have a problem with the sans serif stuff, because i know how to change it.
It is a design decision after all. Just like the 50\p@ from Leslie.

12:29 PM
@Johannes_B Sans serif titles (and description labels) are a precise stylistic choice. If Markus likes it, good. But for a class meant for general usage, there must be a proper option for changing it. The standard classes are much different from koma-script: they are just skeletons, koma-script are supposed to be full-fledged.

@egreg Honestly, i don't understand the concept anymore, now that i gone insane by templates. Why is functionality and look mixed after all?
@egreg Do you mean, that disposition should be used for description labels as well?

1:04 PM
@Johannes_B In my opinion, yes. Or there should be a name for setting everything serif or whatever.

@egreg In my version of KOMA-script, desc-labels are serif with disposition.

1:17 PM
@Johannes_B Not according to esdd's answer

What exactly does it mean if a flag is disputed?
I flagged tex.stackexchange.com/questions/258511/… as not an answer. How can there be a dispute?

@Johannes_B Moderators in disagreement about it?

@egreg ok. Out of interest, would you count that as an answer?

@Johannes_B No

Hihi, one dupe flag was declined. Half a year later i made the very same vote and he question was closed as a dupe. Strange voting system we have.

@Johannes_B The review squad was in vacation

1:47 PM
@egreg By the way, i have also flagged tex.stackexchange.com/questions/302771/… since the question and the solving answer by the OP do not match at all. At least they don't seem to match.

@Johannes_B Voted to close as unclear. By what I can see, it's the standard behavior of RevTeX

2:43 PM
@esdd What is going on? Why are you giving away your points?

2:55 PM
@Johannes_B ?

@PauloCereda We must do something for getting back the rain in England.

@egreg I blame Adele, she sat fire to the rain. :)
(@Alan: I am afraid I did a music joke and nobody will get it ^^)

@Johannes_B Bad answers are not not an answer. And this one, because it runs roughshod over the actual revtex definitions may actually do what the OP wanted (after all, they posted it as an answer to their own question.)

@AlanMunn I flagged the question as needs attention.

@PauloCereda Well @egreg certain people will certainly not get it.

@PauloCereda I was suspecting something like that, as I couldn't make a sense of it. 😉

3:15 PM
@egreg ooh :)

3:59 PM
I have been leaving quite a few upvotes today. Reason: Guten Freunden gibt man ein Küsschen. :-)
@ChristianHupfer I was just thinking about that reputation question on meta, and after pushing the answer, i thought of the above sentence. ^^

@Johannes_B Have you already considered participating in @PauloCereda's Win a Brazilian Volkswagen Duck contest?
@Johannes_B My reputation has not increased significantly since that answer :-P -- But guess who upvoted your answer ;-)

@ChristianHupfer :-)
@ChristianHupfer No.

@Johannes_B Then quick ... the number of free numbers decreases ;-)

@ChristianHupfer my favourites are already taken.

@Johannes_B Use other numbers then ...
@Johannes_B: Regarding that subcaption stuff and the table numbering: \subcaption* outside of a box does nothing healthy.

4:09 PM
@DavidCarlisle A good afternoon for thinking about TeX in the sun :-)

@ChristianHupfer I know, that's why i was asking the OP what it is doing there?
If anybody has a space upvote, we can get that one off the list. tex.stackexchange.com/questions/209237/…

@Johannes_B Done

@egreg Thank you.

Is there any macro acting like $\vcenter{\hbox{#1}}$ in LaTeX?

@HenriMenke Do you mean a higher level version?

@HenriMenke \begin{tabular}{@{}c@{}}..\end{tabular} probably nearest

@ChristianHupfer Yes.
@DavidCarlisle That is a lot to type :(

@HenriMenke Well, @DavidCarlisle provided a possible version. He definitely knows better than me

@HenriMenke \def\x#1{\begin{tabular}{@{}c@{}}#1\end{tabular}} then you only need to type \x{..}

6:17 PM
@DavidCarlisle Hm. It still obfuscates my intent somewhat. Then \def\x#1{$\vcenter{\hbox{#1}}$} seems better.

@HenriMenke don't tell anyone, but that's what I'd do.

@DavidCarlisle We definitely need support for this in a prospective LaTeX3 user interface. I have found this to be lacking so often.

7:00 PM
@ChristianHupfer Not to be a pain in the butt, but you can also just say \foreach \x in {10,20,...,80} { The foreach does round the numbers weirdly, but it's usually not noticeable.

7:10 PM
@Johannes_B Hell, are you here?
@Johannes_B Hello, not Hell

@Dr.ManuelKuehner Yes, i am.

@Johannes_B Ehat do you mean with ""Table of contets""
@Johannes_B Ehat --> What

@Dr.ManuelKuehner Typo in the video ;-)
stopped there, honestly.

@Johannes_B Aahhhhh - ok....Now I get it. I made it ages ago and I don't instantly remember all the text. This is a perfect example where text is easier to change than video

@Dr.ManuelKuehner It was the 2016 one. Installing MiKteX and Texmaker.

7:15 PM
@Dr.ManuelKuehner (sadly two weeks is "ages ago" in my brain)

@Dr.ManuelKuehner oh. :-( You have kids?

@Dr.ManuelKuehner Ok. I leave again. I appreciate the help
@Johannes_B Damn, I made the wrong @ in the last two posts. Copy & Paste
@Johannes_B No kids and single...
@Johannes_B Why?

@Dr.ManuelKuehner ach egal
@Dr.ManuelKuehner two weeks feels like ages. Sounds like kids around, but probably, you are just busy.

@Dr.ManuelKuehner (German: Verstehe worauf Du hinaus willst...hätte gut sein können)

@Dr.ManuelKuehner by the way, the little helper messages (since there is no talking) could be a bit longer.

7:18 PM
@Johannes_B (Verdammt, schon wieder falsch) I am not often here in the chat...confusing for me

@HenriMenke really? where do you use it? single line natural size box, vertically centred?

@Dr.ManuelKuehner you can use the arrow up key, you have two or three minutes to edit a post. See, i just edited it. ;-)

@Johannes_B Ok. I'll send you a email so that you have my contact too. Leaving now...dinner + movie

@Dr.ManuelKuehner If you have questions, or just want to have a talk ... my githubusername@gmail.com

@DavidCarlisle To center symbols (e.g. from fontawesome) in text or images side by side. A special use case was centering Feynman diagrams, drawn with TikZ, on the math axis in a formula, because you usually write “integral = diagram”.

7:21 PM
@Dr.ManuelKuehner Guten Appetit :-)

@Dr.ManuelKuehner Can you send me an email "manuel.kuehner@gmail.com", I don't find your githubname

@HenriMenke yes but the tikz figure can be vertically centred without that, and the text often needs to be multi-line so a \parbox is more natural, and will vertically centre by default

@Johannes_B Can you send me an email "manuel.kuehner@gmail.com", I don't find your githubname

@Dr.ManuelKuehner I am Darkwing Duck, but in reality, i am a penguin. ;-)
@HenriMenke Now 3000 points extra, almost all of my rep doubled. What to do?

@Johannes_B I can give you another 100, so you can exceed Elke ;)

7:29 PM
@HenriMenke Nah, thanks. She deserves the upvotes, and hence the rep.

@Johannes_B I have no idea. I will just keep on doing what I always do: Answer questions and upvote saputello's answers.

@HenriMenke you do know who saputello is, right?

@Johannes_B To be honest: no

@HenriMenke Do you know my github name? It is still the same. Or do you want to know something about my template confusion?

@Johannes_B I know about your github and I have seen the Template Confusion article, but tl;dr ;)

7:33 PM
@HenriMenke Reach me, and i can tell you who saputello is. But you can't share the information.

@Johannes_B Check your GMail.

@HenriMenke "Oh, i have a new mail."

@Johannes_B Thanks for the info. I kind of expected that. Do you know why the name “saputello”?
@Johannes_B Does it have a meaning?
@Johannes_B Oh, the info for the DANTE meeting are revealed. September, 10th in Göttingen. Will you attend?

@HenriMenke I can imagine, if the user knows Italian; it's a bit derogatory, though.

@HenriMenke Use google translate ;-)
@HenriMenke Probably not :-(

7:49 PM
@Johannes_B That's sad. I will try to attend and it is my last DANTE meeting for several years then.

@egreg The german speaking community, and i have to say i am a part of that, is just a bit like that i fear.
@HenriMenke Why the last?

@HenriMenke That's a mere 960 km from here! It could be an idea!

@Johannes_B I am planning to go abroad for my PhD and I don't know yet where it will take me. Perhaps very far away.

Off for a while
@HenriMenke always TUG ;-)

@egreg Sounds like a great motorbike trip!

7:54 PM
@HenriMenke Yes; essentially the same as last year up to Augsburg (but alternative routes are available). I'll think about it.
@HenriMenke Down under to meet Will?

@HenriMenke is.gd/kWo1qx

8:22 PM
Hey, It seems I am having trouble with the 2016 release because of the sha hashes not existing on all the mirrors I tried. Are the mirrors not in sync yet?

@egreg Everything is in the realms of possibility. I'll let you know, once I know for sure.
@PauloCereda How old is that video? Germany's borders look...imperial.
@PauloCereda Related: xkcd.com/1688

@HenriMenke oh no!

@Max TeX Live 2016 has not yet been released

Max
I don't think these borders have never been accurate
egreg it is since today https://www.tug.org/texlive/
I was on pretest, but it's over and I am looking for a mirror to switch over to

8:34 PM
@Max Really! Well, wait until tomorrow for the mirrors to sync

Max
Yeah, I guessed that was the problem. I kinda would have expected that to happen before it was declared released.
Ah well, I am in no hurry. I just had a confused basictex user who downloaded the release today and nothing worked

@HenriMenke do you want to report that? or I could, since I'm on texlive list anyway (I suspect texlive is better place than the offical pdftex tracker)

@DavidCarlisle That would be great if you could report it for me.

@JosephWright You haven't asked me about Limburger, sir.

@egreg Well, even though it does not segfault for you all these uninitialized value jumps still indicate that there is something wrong. I strongly suspect that the pointer of the result array of \pdfmatch is dereferenced without checking whether it was initialized.

@JosephWright one bug not in luatex ^^^ :-)
