2:02 AM
that does sound like a confusing situation for him

2:18 AM
@BESW This hip hop pharaoh?

@Adeptus The Hip-Hop Pharaoh is an as-yet-undefined entity in our Weird campaign. I imagine that he's an undead/resurrected ancient Egyptian monarch who decided to adopt this aesthetic.
Except even more saturated with pop culture. Priestesses of Bast wearing Hello Kitty masks.
Ajani is a PC from an old unrelated twosie campaign I ran for @trogdor.
It was a political thriller in a magical version of Ancient Egypt, wherein a thief (Ajani) accidentally became a werecat. Which was massively confusing for everyone because only the highest ranks of Bast priestess were given that blessing. And Ajani was a very lowly male totally untrained in any religious niceties.

@BESW well.... could be both. Pharoahe becomes a pharoah, wakes up one morning in Egypt with a headache's worth of Ancient Memories.

But the Pharaoh was Hatshepsut, the first woman ruler of Egypt to take the title Pharaoh for herself instead of ruling in the name of a male relative, and she thought the whole thing was hilarious. So the Pharaoh ordered the priestesses to take Ajani in and train him--and later, made him an ambassador to the Pharaonic Court on behalf of the Temple of Bast.
The campaign was a combination social comedy/political thriller with Ajani being the fish out of water who even his allies want to see fail.
@doppelgreener True.

2:34 AM
lol

2:46 AM
Perhaps also an awesome sword... and mystical talents... and a kickass wardrobe... and a raging passion... and...

2:57 AM
(if you see what I'm getting at there :D)
I'm suddenly imagining an Egypt that is full of radical monsters and badass heroes, and the emperor is the most badass of them all.
(@BESW you've mentioned in our amaterasu story setup early on that you would often just fill in a blank so that it's filled in, expecting us to replace or improve on it if we wanted something in particular. Is this Hello Kitty Bast Pharoah a case of that or something you're genuinely interested in exploring?)

3:17 AM
I would guess it is the first thing
but that is, of course, just a guess

3:34 AM
Advice: as a human, breaking your big toe is a bad idea/accident

@DavidWilkins The same is true of the rest of your toes. Just FYI.

ouch

Yes, big toe normally bears weight
Most other toes do n9t
I wish that typo was related to painkillers, but it is not

@DavidWilkins I'd agree that breaking your big toe is a worse idea. Just didn't want to leave open the possibility that breaking other toes is a good idea.

Tomorrow I get to learn to use crutches for the first time while needing crutches for the first time. I suppose that is how anyone learns to use them though

3:41 AM
@DavidWilkins Nah, I've used crutches a lot, but I've never needed them.

Anyhow, foot is comfortable for now...drifting off to sleep...goodnight rpg.se

@DavidWilkins Cya, hope you get better soon!

@DavidWilkins I think I needed them for a short period of time when I hurt my foot that one time
it took a long time to heal but I only needed them for a really short time if I recall correctly
I don't even remember what the injury was called, but it was one of the most painful things I have ever felt when it first happened
it was some kind of internal tear near a nerve T.T

@trogdor Doctor Squidlark would call that a minor ego fracture. And then laugh heartily, and activate the fairly painful surgical (laser powered) twenty second treatment.

well I went to a slightly less crazy doctor sooo
plus, he was crazy when it came to almost anything but doctoring
crazy in a good way

3:55 AM
@trogdor who, that doctor, or Squidlark?

the doctor I went to
I imagine Squidlark is crazy when it comes to everything

You're not wrong

exactly why I wouldn't go to him with any injury
the doctor I mean was one of our neighbors before we moved, and he used to do things like spray water at people coming to his house during Haloween and fire off a potato cannon (in his yard pointed towards the boonies, he was not shooting it in places where it would hit people) and hunt chickens with a crossbow (only on his own property)
oh, and he constructed his house himself, with his wife, which was partly built from a boat which I believe they also had previously built themselves

That's quite fantastic

according to my father he has also done other crazy things which I cannot quite remember
he was pretty awesome
he did express bewilderment as to how I could have injured my foot in the particular way I had,.. I honestly have no idea myself because all I had done was run the way I always do
so something particular about the terrain must have been a factor
I could have stepped on a rock or something,... but I honestly don't remember it that well anymore

ouch
I definitely would not relish breaking my big toe
not that I imagine many people would

I saw X-Men: Apocalypse on the weekend. Pretty good, but maybe a little more violent/gory than the previous ones

5:17 AM
(I'm seeing Chat: Apocalypse right now...)

wait, right in here?

@Adeptus Apocalypses are generally more eventful. If I had to guess, I'd say you missed Chat:Apocalypse and are actually seeing Chat:Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland at the moment.

5:44 AM

3 hours later…
8:36 AM
@Adeptus The Polish bits of the movie were horrible.

3 hours later…
11:43 AM
enters the post-apocalyptic chat-wasteland

indeed a bit empty

is there something going on? not even the number of people here is near normal?

no idea
It would seem the Pacific/Asian folks are missing.

yeah

12:56 PM
@eimyr I'm here! But technically supposed to do three other things. So not that chatty.
Also, there is a certain amount of self-reinforcement.

well, you're not the only person lurking
to the point where no one greets the people!

No, but I just felt the need to not stare at formulas any more.

Hello, @ArtemGr !

@eimyr Hi, eimyr. I'm just passing by. )

Just passing by, that's OK too.
Do you play RPGs or just visiting?

12:59 PM
Yeah, I play and GM, but I'm also developing a proximity chat service, so I go to chat.stackexchange.com sometimes to check how the interface works. = )

I see.
What is it that you play?

I've been playing White Wolf games, but I plan to do some freeform roleplays in the reddit.com/r/YouEnterADungeon next.

1:15 PM
That's nice.
I'm a fan of White Wolf's games, especially Mage: the Ascension and I'm starting a campaign in that system fairly soon.
@TREE Hello!

@ArtemGr … what was the card-driven online storytelling system called that came out some time ago and someone was looking to run a game in?
/me is being vague, but I should really bookmark that thing before I forget again.

@Anaphory Storium?

Yep, cheers!

heh, happy to help
Harass @BESW, he seems to be interested.
Or, you know, just harass him for the hell of it.

@eimyr I think I told him I'm interested before. There's no way I'll do anything in that direction in the next 8 days, but after that I need games again.

1:29 PM
I'd say 8 days is less time than it takes to set anything up
so perhaps you might want to start early

…, but after that I need to games going again, because I'll be in a new place with a new schedule and new responsibilities not knowing any local gamers yet.
I won't need games like immediately, I'm not a junkie (or maybe I am, but that's an entirely different problem and I may have already marked game stores, a student game society meetup location and things like that on my map), it's just that I won't have anything in prep then, and a long perspective to look forward to.

1:44 PM
@Anaphory I'm sure you'd be happier without short term game if you hae a long term one in the making.

I do mix and match game lengths all the time, and Storium looked like something one could play intermittently mid-term, and not just short-term.
But overall I would be happier with a long term game in the making, no matter whether compared to with or without a short term game!
Hi @Waterseas!

Heyas

@eimyr … Wait, did we drive the previous two away by greeting them? Maybe I should have said nothing.

I suspect people are just lurking on occasion

as it happens they do

1:56 PM
looks startled I have been discovered! D:

Hands up! Internet Police!

\o/

\o/

Hands in the air, ha-hands in the air [drops beat]

I really need to try finding another campaign to join

2:07 PM
Where in the world are you?

Have you tried roll20?

Wisconsin
And no, I havent

Check it out, it's a virtual table.

Yeah, looking at it now. Seems useful, doesn't solve the issue at hand though XD

It supports many systems.
Try "look for group" feature.

2:10 PM
Hmm, I wonder how open people would be on there to me testing a homebrew race

Well, some accept homebrew content and some do not.

Any tips on filtering out good vs bad groups?

Well, kind of.
But not exactly "filtering".
Check out the game creator's profile.
If he played 250 hours, made a 1000 rolls, played with 20 people, I guess he is okey.

@Waterseas Solve this, solve humanity.

Hmm, I might end up relying on lurking here until someone eventually decides to start up a new campaign of something, if ever

2:15 PM
Well I wanted to start Dungeon World.
I am GM'ing for 8 or 9 years.

That might be a thing I'm interested in, though my one session experience with DW wasn't great XD

I would be up to playing more than a single session of DW.

XD Definitely would prefer a non-single session campaign

@doppelgreener I like the worldbuilding idea, but I don't have any story ideas attached to it.
@DoomedMind I've been at FestPac most of the day.

2:35 PM
@BESW cool. How was it? :)

Very nice, though the coordination behind the scenes has been kind of embarrassing.

isn't really that uncommon...
i mean, it happens even on the wacken open air regularly, and that thing is organized by the same people for 28 something years...
FestPac seems like an interesting theme. Would have visited if there was one not too far :)

@BESW Is "publuc" the local pidjin or am I justified in pointing this out?

So far as I know, that's a typo.
And sadly representative.

I hoped for an amusing story about pidjins and intentional phonetic spelling like "supamakat" and "eirpot".

2:45 PM
… The equivalent (?) in Auckland is called “Pasifika”, probably for such reasons …

1 hour later…
4:10 PM
@doppelgreener my reaction was similar, but I think I taught the cats and dog some new vocabulary

5 hours later…
9:39 PM
@DavidWilkins sharing knowledge and vocabulary is an important pursuit (◕ ͜ʖ◕)

10:05 PM
Hm
Is chat transcript search broken?
@BESW Mornin'

10:28 PM
@LegendaryDude don't know if you know but you can also write [gaming.se] into a comment and it'll magically auto-convert into a link to that site. :D Even works here in chat.

10:42 PM
@eimyr yes, it appears to be broken.

Q: Chat.SE transcript search isn't turning up results from the past year

doppelgreenerChat.SE's transcript seems a bit broken at the moment... if I search for a term such as "lol" and sort by newest, the most recent results are from April last year (2015): I promise we've had someone say "lol" sometime in 2016, and in fact, in late 2015. If I search for something someone said ...

Q: Chat search is returning no results

Helka HombaSearching any Stack Exchange chatroom doesn't seem to work at the moment. For example, the word "this" certainly appears in The Nineteenth Byte but https://chat.stackexchange.com/search?q=this&room=240 results in 0 messages found for me. Even with the user specified there are no results: htt...

@AshleyNunn oh thanks!

user15026
No problem! I just happened to notice that, figured it might help :)

very helpful :D I guess the rebuild's only gotten up to april 2015 so far

Hahaha
Thanks @doppelgreener

11:06 PM
I'm sitting here, doing research for my survival scenario and I'm starting to think I'd be the worst player with all this information.
I'd be driving around my Veggie Oil fueled Leopard 2 tank and just not have a care in the world. :P
Although at one mile per gallon, there might be better choices for transportation. :P

Thassallotta veggies.

I wonder if veggie oil has the same shelf life as diesel.
Without added care, diesel will start to give you problems after about 6 months.

Well, the freaking smoke from burning plant oil is just...

And the smell :P

11:19 PM
Roll for constitution or die XD

Unless the exhaust is directed into the vehicle, I doubt that's going to be a problem :P

Apparently, the smoke and smell of plant oil fuels is lower/better than petroleum diesel itself, and diesel engines were originally designed with plant oil fuels in mind: forbes.com/sites/matthewdepaula/2011/05/27/…

Interesting

I might have the chance to create an interesting interactive setup for roleplaying. A friend of mine got a hold of 20+ touchscreens with a small embedded computer running Windows.
I'm thinking I might see if I can get 6, and then get an old table I can make some holes in.

That has some fun potential.

I think so. I think it's only basic old-school touch though, but still, it could reduce clutter and streamline things a bit.
I have the skills to code up some helper tools as well. I did consider making a sort of digital roleplaying game. Something that is still face-to-face like PnP, but with a fully electronic system to give way for more advanced mechanics.

I'm thinking about, eg, how in Aeon Wave hacking Red Sea Megacorp databanks often yields half-garbled plot dumps.
The module provides diegetic-formatted handouts for those occasions, but it's a lot more effective if you keep them on a digital device and hand that to your players when they trigger a reveal.
Rigging their embedded table interface to display that material would make it even more diegetic.

Definitely. I also think electronically assisted play gives more options for fine-grained control, which you would normally forego. Like carrying capacity. I know my group would love that.
Heck, they'd love a system that kept track of hunger/thirst/sleep.

11:45 PM
@WilliamMariager yeah -- the extra automation provided by say roll20 is very useful for dealing with fiddlier systems

Whereas I tend to eschew fiddly bits, so I'd be more interested in using it for diegetic elements and coordinating gross features that are difficult to accommodate manually in my circumstances.
Like, playing Mythic.
We just straight up don't have enough dice for it.

Maybe it could make a 3.5 combat encounter take less than three hours. :P

A simple physics roller on the embedded tablets would make games like Mythic, Don't Rest Your Head, and Epyllion, a lot simpler without buying more physical tools--not even taking into account that sometimes half my group is Skyping in from thousands of miles away.

Only physics roller I've enjoyed using is the one from Fantasy Grounds. It just feels so real. :P

My dream table would have small embedded tablets at each seat, but also an overhead projector that could swivel to point at the table or at the wall.
@WilliamMariager I used to use the Rock'n'Roll Dice Roller. It might still work on Windows?

11:57 PM
@BESW I have a 4k 55" TV. Once I retire it, it will definitely become an asset for roleplaying. A piece of glass on top, and it'll be perfect for a dynamic table.

Haven't yet found anything quite so natural-feeling since.

@BESW I can only find Download.com links. And I don't particularly trust that site.

That's fair.

@WilliamMariager I remember when you actually could trust that site - those were good times.
